"“The Waning of the GOP,” William Buckley’s isolationist/defeatist article about America’s war on Islamofascism in the Iraq front, has been given ample dissemination particularly by the left and by ostrich-style isolationist conservatives, most likely to advance the outrageous idea of skedaddling out of Iraq.
The two messages in Buckley’s article are that America cannot win in Iraq, and that such debacle will enervate the GOP and make it fade out. He closes his article with the grandiloquently lugubrious statement “. . . There are grounds for wondering whether the Republican party [sic] will survive this dilemma.”"
