Remembering What Memorial Day Is For - Frank Salvato

"As we enter into the Memorial Day weekend, many people are preparing their families for a weekend of fun, sunshine, the celebration of the unofficial beginning of Summer, BBQs, picnics and the like. Many people will be traveling to see family and friends, taking the opportunity that an extended weekend affords, to spend time with the ones they value most in life. While all of these actions can be considered 'traditional,' they miss the mark on what Memorial Day is all about and miss it by a country mile.

The origin of Memorial Day centers on the American Civil War. This day, originally set at May 30th of every year, was at first an observance of those who died fighting for the Union cause.

One scholar, Professor David Blight of Yale University’s history department, cites the first Memorial Day as having taken place in 1865 in Charleston, South Carolina. On this day, according to Professor Blight, liberated slaves and Union soldiers gathered on the grounds of a former Confederate prison camp, grounds that also served as a mass grave for Union soldiers. A solemn parade ensued culminating in the singing of patriotic songs, a picnic and a remembrance of those who gave their lives to secure the unity of the Union."

GOP-RIP By Gregg Jackson and Paul Dinger

"The 'RINO' (Republican In Name Only) syndrome was diagnosed at a very advanced stage by the 2006 election. But apparently we've learned nothing. And the adulation over the candidacy of Mitt Romney shows the condition is probably terminal.

'RINOism' has infected much of the conservative leadership, from evangelical leaders to Right Wing talk show hosts. Southern Baptist leader Richard Land and top conservative radio talk show hosts such as Sean Hannity speak glowingly of Romney. Two of the most popular conservative shows have become part of the liberal media glorification of Mitt. One conservative talker has written 'A Mormon In The White House.' He and other Republican talkers are denouncing the 'ugly religious bigotry' against Romney.
What exactly are they talking about?"

SUV-driving hypocrites flock to see Gore in Marin County :: World Tribune

"On May 23, 2007, Al Gore made a personal appearance at the Marin Veterans' Auditorium, in the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael, California.

He was there to kick off publicity for his latest book, The Assault on Reason, which had been released just the day before. Outside the lecture hall, a plethora of Gore-heads had set up tables. The message was the same at all of them: Gore in '08!
Each group had its own twist. This one promoted the 'Dream Team' of Gore-Obama. Has anybody informed Obama yet that he's been demoted to VP?

. . . . But wait! What's that behind the crowd? Could it be -- a parking lot? Filled with...cars? "

Memorial Day: Hijacked :: WorldNetDaily

"To the long list of liberal non sequiturs, such as 'Pro-Child, Pro-Choice,' we can mark this Memorial Day weekend by adding 'Support the Troops: Bring Them Home.'
That's the message from former Sen. John Edwards, whose website supportthetroopsendthewar.com is urging people to crash Memorial Day ceremonies and parades with anti-war protests. He's even asking people to take pictures of it all and post them to his website. What nifty souvenirs!
We're still waiting for the media outrage over this hijacking of a sacred day to honor the war dead.

Can you imagine being a U.S. Marine and going out today on a mission in Fallujah, Iraq, searching for the killers in the latest civilian massacre, and hearing that a prominent U.S. politician is urging people to hijack Memorial Day for political protests? "

I Remember::By Fred Thompson

"I remember when I was a kid; one thing was clear to me. The more I learned about the rest of the world, the luckier I felt just having been born in America. The more I learned about America, the more I appreciated what those who came before us built; and how exceptional they were.
Not that there aren't other great places to live, but America is unique. It's not just that we are the freest and most prosperous country the world has ever seen. America has also freed more people than any other nation in history.

A lot of people have done their part to see that we are blessed with the advantages we enjoy -- from hardworking pioneer mothers to the Framers of the Constitution. Memorial Day is coming up, though, and I'm thinking more about American soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice -- those who died to protect our way of life and make the world safe for democracy. My Dear Karl,

When Lilith picked up your call on the answering service, I told her firmly that we must not say “I told you so.” And we won’t, really. But since you ask, I don’t think this thing is going to work.

Take a look, first, at the coalition you have assembled behind what you call “comprehensive immigration reform.” It’s a coalition of opposites — corporate America and Big Labor, left-wing ethnic lobbies like La Raza and the Republican National Committee, the Catholic bishops and left-wing Democrats, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Blood of Iraqi Martyrs by Kenneth R. Timmerman

"There is another tragedy taking in place in Iraq on a daily basis, far from the front pages and the TV news. It does not involve the kidnapping of U.S. troops, nor even the fire-bombing of Muslim shrines by other Muslims, both of which by now are familiar to most Americans.

This is a tragedy taking place in a total media vacuum. Even our government has remained silent as it continues.

Perhaps it’s because the victims are Christians. Indeed, members of the most ancient Christian communities in the world."

"The Issue of the Potential Impacts of Global Warming on Recreation and the Recreation Industry" SENATOR INHOFE

"Thank you for having this hearing today, Madam Chairman. I have to say, however, that we seem to have hearing after hearing after hearing on climate change – indeed, this is the Committee's second one this week alone – but we don’t seem to actually discuss legislation. While other Committees without jurisdiction on this issue attempt to write our nation’s global warming policies, this Committee sits idly by talking about tangential issues. I believe that if we do wrestle with actual legislation, then the folly of cap-and-trade carbon legislation will become apparent.

The recreation industry’s true threats come not from climate change – which has always changed and will always change – but from the so-called global warming ‘solutions’ being proposed by government policymakers. Misguided efforts to ‘solve’ global warming threaten to damage the travel and recreation industry. In short, it is a direct threat America’s way of life. If we cannot fly to remote locations, and if few automobiles are capable of pulling boats, jet skies, and campers, and if RVs become a thing of the past as environmentalists would like, then minor climate fluctuations will have little impact on recreation because Americans will not have the means to recreate. There's an environmental advocacy institute (at Chatham University, her alma mater), a state office building in Harrisburg, several research institutions, a number of schools (no less than eight, by my count), and here in Pittsburgh, we got this bridge.

The bridge in question, once known as the 9th Street Bridge, was renamed the Rachel Carson Bridge late last year at the request of Esther L. Barazzone, president of Chatham University. It's one of three downtown suspension bridges crossing the Allegheny. Together they're known as the 'Three Sisters'. The other two are named for Roberto Clemente and Andy Warhol, respectively. The Influence of Jihad on American Colonization- Part 1 of 3 :: Sam Nuckolls

"When I first began studying the history of New World colonization, I learned that the conquistadors accompanying Columbus and Cortez were crusaders, knights who had been fighting against the Jihadist Muslim armies as the Moors had expanded into Europe. I was also taught that this expansion was the result of European Visigoth hostilities against Muslim territories, [which I also learned was not merely one single country (Morroco) seeking to expand its own sovereign territory, but the Pan-Islamic “Wattaan Islamiyah” or in more Fascist terms – the “World-wide Islamic Reich” – replete with all of the same nuances of that form of Fascism]. Islam, as such, is a religion-driven culture bearing the inherent doctrinal compulsion to take over the world. That is to say, that whether the Muslims in question are moderates (collaborators and “sleepers” rendering unobtrusive external support to Jihadists financially through “Muslim charities”, socially by upholding the terrorists’ morale via familial normalization, and psychologically via the manipulation of the liberal and left-wing dominated mass media) or extremists (obviously more directly active against anti-Islamic resistance).(1)"

Why Socialists Must Side with Islamic Fundamentalism - The Jimmy Carter Case By Peter Fruchter

Jimmy Carter seems like a gentle man. Gentle as a wheeze. But the response to his recent “Palestine Peace Not Apartheid” book hasn’t been. It’s been anything but gentle. It’s been outrage. Some now say he’s anti-semitic. Which is unwarranted, and worse – irrelevant. The issues contested concern Israel – and Islamic fundamentalism. Not Judaism. Not the Jewish – or Masonic or Templar or Protestant – conspiracy. Not any more. Since the creation of Israel, it’s what goes on in the Middle-East getting voted most likely to enflame Armageddon.

Carter is wrong, of course. That’s clear the moment we concede Israel’s entitled to defend herself. Right? However defined, apartheid is offensive – and thereby can’t conceivably be practiced in self-defence.

Were Whites In Southern Africa Before Blacks? By Jan Lamprecht

When I was writing Government by Deception, I met also with a former Colonel who also had a doctorate. He showed me an extensive paper he had written on the subject of Black colonization of southern Africa, complete with maps, and stated that parts of the region were settled by Whites before Blacks. This is not an oddball theory and everything he said is already sitting in the history books.

However, for politically correct reasons, nobody states this firmly established fact: that blacks migrated thousands of miles and colonized southern Africa only in recent centuries. In fact, if you will study the history (as opposed to the rubbish which some African-Americans have written in their complete and unadulterated wishful-thinking-induced ignorance about Africa), you will find that Blacks only inhabited a portion of Africa until recently.

Not because the criminals changed their ways, but because our politicians changed the laws so that they are considered lawful.
Low end of estimates peg the number of illegal aliens in the country at 12 million. In light of this and in their infinite wisdom, the Senate, many in the House and the traitor in the White House, all seem to believe that once you reach this number of criminals, you can no longer enforce the law. My research, based on Census data and other government sources, shows these 'low skill immigrant' households receive, on average, $30,160 per year in government benefits while paying $10,573 in taxes. Thus each such household costs the taxpayer $19,588 per year. Overall, the net cost to U.S. taxpayers is $89 billion per year. My report suggests that the country would benefit fiscally by having fewer low skill immigrants, who are net tax consumers, and more well educated immigrants who are net tax payers."

The Right Fight by Jacob Laksin

"Few today are receptive to the idea of a “war on terror.” From a war-weary public, to a political commentariat impatient with such supposedly simple-minded slogans, the country seems determined to move beyond the notion that the fighting underway in Iraq is in any significant way connected to the global terrorist threat to national security. So it is to President Bush’s credit that he used his commencement address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy this week to reacquaint a disaffected nation with a stubborn fact: Iraq remains the central theater in the fight against al-Qaeda and its jihadist brethren.

To illustrate the point, Bush adduced newly declassified intelligence that confirms what many are disinclined to hear: that al-Qaeda views Iraq as the ultimate showdown between its brand of fanatical Islam and the Western world, and that it seeks to turn the country into a staging ground for further attacks against the United States. Because we live in the middle of a revolution, there are many possibilities. Everything is in turmoil. Every institution stands on its ear. It is hard to believe that many Americans still don’t even know something fundamental is wrong.

For instance, as in old Rome, our limited republic has been corrupted into an empire and empire means war. As I write, we are mired in Iraq. When you read this, we could be enmeshed in another in Iran. We have been at war for more than a century. Historian Harry Elmer Barnes called the process Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. Rachel Carson's Centenary: No Cause for Celebration :: Ayn Rand Institute

"On May 27, environmentalists will celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of Rachel Carson, the founding mother of their movement.

But Carson's centenary is no cause for celebration. Her legacy includes more than a million deaths a year from the mosquito-borne disease malaria. Though nearly eradicated decades ago, malaria has resurged with a vengeance because DDT, the most effective agent of mosquito control, has been essentially discarded--discarded based not on scientific concerns about its safety, but on environmental dogma advanced by Carson.

The crusade against DDT began with Carson's antipesticide diatribe, 'Silent Spring,' published in 1962 at the height of the worldwide antimalaria campaign. The widespread spraying of DDT had caused a spectacular drop in malaria incidence. Sri Lanka, for example, reported 2.8 million malaria victims in 1948, but by 1963 it had only 17. Yet Carson's book made no mention of this. It said nothing of DDT's crucial role in eradicating malaria in industrialized countries, or of the tens of millions of lives saved by its use."

History Of Power From The Gutenberg Revolution To The Computer RevolutionBy Michael Hart :: Global Politician

"This piece is a result of conversations with a number of knowledgeable people who do not seem to be as aware of the history of power as I expected, with an emphasis on the kind of power used in The Industrial Revolution through today which I am hopefully labeling as The Neo-Industrial Revolution.

The kinds of power under discussion will range from ancient waterwheels to an electronic age that most of us don't understand yet even though we are living right in the middle of the Internet Age and computers are ubiquitous and this will also include several kinds of social, political and economic power.

How did humanity raise itself up from an illiterate agrarian population? Why is it that you can read what I am writing?

The answer to both questions starts with Johannes Gutenberg's invention known to us as The Gutenberg Press.

This was the first example of 'mass production' in the world.

It was also the first example of metallurgy being used for purposes more than agriculture or arms and armor.

Sir Jadunath Sarkar, the pre-eminent historian of Mughal India, wrote the following in 1920 regarding the impact of centuries of Jihad and dhimmitude on the indigenous Hindus of the Indian subcontinent:

“The conversion of the entire population to Islam and the extinction of every form of dissent is the ideal of the Muslim State. If any infidel is suffered to exist in the community, it is as a necessary evil, and for a transitional period only. Political and social disabilities must be imposed on him, and bribes offered to him from the public funds, to hasten the day of his spiritual enlightenment and the addition of his name to the roll of true believers.” “A non-Muslim therefore cannot be a citizen of the State; he is a member of a depressed class; his status is a modified form of slavery. He lives under a contract (zimma, or ‘dhimma’) with the State: for the life and property grudgingly spared to him by the commander of the faithful he must undergo political and social disabilities, and pay a commutation money. In short, his continued existence in the State after the conquest of his country by the Muslims is conditional upon his person and property made subservient to the cause of Islam.”"

Israel's next war::By Cal Thomas

"There are consequences to losing a war, or being perceived not to have won. Israel's ability to win wars has been based on its capacity to pound its many enemies into submission whenever they have dared attack. Depending on how you count them, Israel has been the target of at least four wars started by one or more of her neighbors, as well as numerous terrorist attacks. It had won all of them until 2006.
Last summer, in response to repeated guerrilla assaults by Hezbollah - or Party of God - a militant Lebanese Shia political party, Israel invaded Lebanon, but failed to drive out the terrorist organization, or free two captured Israel soldiers. A committee, appointed to study why Israeli forces were not victorious, blamed Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Hezbollah quickly regrouped and has restocked its armaments. Israel's new ambassador to the United States, Sallai Meridor, tells me there could be another war by this summer, probably launched from terrorist positions in Gaza, Lebanon and possibly Syria, which has not directly attacked Israel since it was bloodied in the 1973 Yom Kippur War."

The Amnesty Fraud: Part III::By Thomas Sowell

"Whose problem is the immigration bill in Congress supposed to solve? The country's problem with dangerously porous borders? The illegal immigrants' problem? Or politicians' problems?
It has been painfully clear for years that the country's problem with insecure borders and floods of foreigners who remain a foreign -- and growing -- part of the American population has the lowest priority of the three.

Virtually every step -- even token steps -- that Congress and the administration have taken toward securing the border has been backed into under pressure from the voters."

There's no human decency left in the media Gerd Schroeder

"I was shocked and brought to tears when I saw flashed on a TV screen the news that one of the missing soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division who has been missing for almost two weeks may have been found dead, news now confirmed by the DoD. On every news channel, the reporters, like jackals, then went on to give details on the soldier that were so specific that any family member of that soldier watching the news would know immediately that it was their loved one that had been found.

Imagine that you are a family member related to one of the soldiers who is missing in Iraq, and while watching the news a reporter breathlessly announces that they have 'breaking news' about the missing soldiers with details that only you know about your son. That is what happened today before the military could notify the family in a humane, dignified, and personal way that their son had sacrificed his life for us."

A History of Empty Words, Claims on Immigration George Will

"WASHINGTON -- Compromise is incessantly praised, and has produced the proposed immigration legislation. But compromise is the mother of complexity, which, regarding immigration, virtually guarantees -- as the public understands -- weak enforcement and noncompliance.
Although the compromise was announced the day the Census Bureau reported that there now are 100 million nonwhites in America, Americans are skeptical about the legislation, but not because they have suddenly succumbed to nativism. Rather, the public has slowly come to the conclusion that the government cannot be trusted to mean what it says about immigration."

Bias by Ari Kaufman

"Despite decades of evidence from, Walter Cronkite's offense at Tet and 'Bush lied about WMDs' to the contrary, today's liberal is fond of claiming there is not only zero lefty bias in today's mainstream media, but often a conservative bias.
The Nation's resident leftist prevaricator, Eric Alterman, most recently pointed this out last fall, after he became enraged by the 'lies in ABC's mini-series Path to 9/11' (the one the Clinton's had changed in a remarkable cover up). Others look to their perception of the media's 'build up of the Iraq War' in 2003, or the Downing Street Memo that a professor in Florida once told me he 'writes to the Times (NY, of course) daily imploring them to publicize it more' and many others.
But, naturally, facts tell a different story, as evidence amounting to a left-leaning bias in the mainstream media is as deep as the Marianas Trench.
Led by their long time hero, Chris Matthews, today's media will mention any minor scandal from Scooter Libby to Tom Delay in order to market their erroneous claims, despite nearly a century of history showing the dangers in losing focus of the America's true enemies."

The jejune fact that we 'can't deport them all' is supposed to lead ineluctably to the conclusion that we must grant amnesty to illegal aliens – and fast!
I'm astounded that debate has sunk so low that I need to type the following words, but: No law is ever enforced 100 percent. "

CAIR by the Numbers by Patrick Poole

"Last week the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released their 2006 Annual Report, which provides some interesting information to outside observers of the radical Islamic front group. Back in February, I noted in an article here at FrontPage, “Numbers Don’t Lie”, that despite CAIR’s claims to be “the largest Islamic civil rights organization in America”, the facts hardly match their propaganda. In that article I wrote:

An inspection of CAIR’s most recent publicly available IRS Form 990 (2004) shows for that year they received $119,029 in membership dues for that year (line 3). But at $25 per membership (the current rate is $35), that would mean that in 2004, CAIR only had 4,761 dues-paying members – less than 5,000 members out of 8 million Muslims in America. This would mean that CAIR only represents 1 out of every 1,680 Muslims. Even if a lower 6 million Muslim population figure were assumed, CAIR would still only be able to claim representation for 1 out of every 1,260 Muslims for that year. "

Townhall.com::The College "Hook-up" Culture::By Ashley Herzog

"When I opened my campus newspaper last week and saw an article titled “Unhooked: Ohio University women discuss the college hook-up culture,” I was expecting an eye-roll-inducing paean to women’s “sexual empowerment.” Who could blame me? Many college newspapers fill their pages with just that type of banal trash, including preposterous female “sex columnists” who hail promiscuity as the highest form of liberation. I hesitated to even read it.

But instead of inane prattling about condoms, lingerie and oral sex, the article was filled with quotes from women unhappy with the college “hook-up culture.” As a freshman identified only as Rachel said, “I think for guys, it’s a lot about hooking up; for girls it’s more of an emotional thing. Maybe the guy will call you; maybe he’ll just say ‘hi’ on the street. But he sees you as an object, while you’re upset. The guys are over-empowered.”"

Worrying About a Supposed Withering of the GOP? By Rene Guerra

"“The Waning of the GOP,” William Buckley’s isolationist/defeatist article about America’s war on Islamofascism in the Iraq front, has been given ample dissemination particularly by the left and by ostrich-style isolationist conservatives, most likely to advance the outrageous idea of skedaddling out of Iraq.

The two messages in Buckley’s article are that America cannot win in Iraq, and that such debacle will enervate the GOP and make it fade out. He closes his article with the grandiloquently lugubrious statement “. . . There are grounds for wondering whether the Republican party [sic] will survive this dilemma.”"

Is Sky Falling on America? By Victor Davis Hanson

"The suicide-murders and roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan sicken Americans. Soon-to-be nuclear Iran seems loonier than nuclear North Korea. American debt keeps piling up in China and Japan. And we think of angry Venezuela, the Middle East and Russia every time we fill up -- if we can afford to fill up.
Then listen to Al Gore on global warming. Or hear Jimmy Carter on the current president. The common denominator is American 'decline.'
Books by liberals assure us that our 'empire' is kaput. Brace for the inevitable fate of Rome. Conservatives are just as glum. For them, we are also Romans -- but the more decadent variety, eaten away from the inside.

In response, many bored Americans turn instead to the la-la land of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
Yet American Cassandras are old stuff. Grim Charles Lindberg in the late 1930s lectured a Depression-era America that Hitler's new order in Germany could only be appeased, never opposed."

Big Brother is now selling for 475.860 USD, up five dollars from yesterday. Maybe the idea of having a personal secretary appeals to some:

Google’s ambition to maximise the personal information it holds on users is so great that the search engine envisages a day when it can tell people what jobs to take and how they might spend their days off.

This brings the concept of dumbing things down to a new level:

Asked how Google might look in five years’ time, Mr Schmidt said: “We are very early in the total information we have within Google. The algorithms will get better and we will get better at personalisation."

Breaching America: Continued, part 3 By Todd Bensman :: San Antonio Express

"The smuggling business in Damascus and Amman was deep underground. Smugglers and their agents hovered in the shadows of places like Al Nawateer, at the Iraqi bakery just up the street and at the brothels where Iraqi women catered to Iraqi men.

Refugees tell of well-oiled Arab mafias, based in South Africa; of an Iraqi Kurdish group living in Sweden that fields recruiters in Jordan; and of local Syrian groups that specialize in guiding paying clients into Turkey and Greece, which are considered launching pads for illegal passage to any other country in the world.
Refugees with little or no means are left to register with the United Nations, apply for visas and resign themselves to the real possibility of never leaving. But for those who have enough money, there are many ways to escape. "

Breaching America: Continued, part 2 By Todd Bensman :: San Antonio Express

"Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Homeland Security and a former assistant director of the FBI, said the nation's vulnerability from this human traffic is unassailable — even if not a single terrorist has ever been caught.

'This isn't a partisan issue,' McCraw said. 'If the good guys can come, you know, then so can the bad guys. We are at risk.'
Though most who cross America's borders are economic migrants, the government has labeled some terrorists. Their ranks include:
Mahmoud Kourani, convicted in Detroit as a leader of the terrorist group Hezbollah. Using a visa obtained by bribing a Mexican official in Beirut, the Lebanese national sneaked over the Mexican border in 2001 in the trunk of a car.
Nabel Al-Marahb, a reputed al-Qaida operative who was No. 27 on the FBI's most wanted terrorist list in the months after 9-11, crossed the Canadian border in the sleeper cab of a long-haul truck. "

"DAMASCUS, Syria--The secret deals cut at places like the Al Nawateer restaurant could affect you.

Americans from San Antonio to Detroit might find themselves living among illegal immigrants from Islamic countries who have come to America with darker pursuits than escaping war or starting a new life.

U.S.-bound illicit travel from Islamic countries, which started long before 9-11 and includes some reputed terrorists, has gained momentum and worried counterterrorism officials as smugglers exploit 2 million Iraq war refugees. The irony is that the war America started to make itself safer has forced more people regarded as security threats toward its borders.

A stark reminder of U.S. vulnerability at home came this month when six foreign-born Muslims, three of whom had entered the country illegally, were arrested and accused of plotting to attack the Army's Fort Dix. "

Is the West Waiting for Churchill or Godot? By Fjordman

I once had the pleasure of watching the absurdist theatre play called "Waiting for Godot," by Samuel Beckett. Two men called Vladimir and Estragon sit around waiting for a man named Godot. Mr. Godot never shows up, of course. It is years ago now, but for some reason, I remembered it recently when watching the political situation in Europe.
During the height of the Muhammad cartoons crisis, Fjordman was among the minority who thought this was good news for Europe and the West. Although it may sound absurd to Americans, those rather innocent cartoons may have done more to open the eyes of Europeans to the Islamic threat than the terror attacks of 9/11, the London and Madrid bombings combined. People who can burn down embassies because of something so silly quite simply don't have anything at all in common with us, and cannot function in our democratic societies. Muslims may have pushed too far, too early, and thus jolted some life back into even the near-comatose continent of Europe. I see some signs that this interpretation may have been correct, and that the tide is indeed changing. Recent opinion polls indicate that there is now a critical mass of ordinary Europeans who no longer buy the brainwashing about Islam being a peaceful religion.

The Fight against Jihad: Dealing with India and China By Wolfgang Bruno

"The most important task in the fight against Islamic Jihad is to reunite the West in the defense of its own civilization, which can only happen by derailing Europe’s path to Eurabia. Raphael Israeli has suggested an Alliance of Western and Democratic States, at the center of which will be the US, Canada, Israel, Australia and Western Europe. This system may sidetrack the chaotic situation in the UN today, where Islamic countries and dictatorships have too much influence. It would probably also presuppose scrapping the EU in its present form. This alliance should maintain amiable relations with the Russians. Russia under Putin is hardly a model democracy, and its own Great Power ambitions may sometimes make it an unpredictable ally. However, the Russians will probably end up on the right side in the struggle against Islam, in the interest of self-preservation if nothing else. With collapsing non-Muslim birth rates and significant Muslim minorities, the survival of Russian culture is at stake. The alliance should also forge ties with non-Western democracies."

Judging from the excerpts of Gore's book published in TIME, his not-so-subtle theme is that reason is being 'assaulted' by a free and unfettered debate in the media--and particularly by the fact that Gore has to contend with opposition from the right-leaning media. "

In addition to creating this island of Freedom in the Middle East, we were also able to rid the world of a corrupt despot who had used WMDs on his own people and had paid each suicide bomber's family an award of $25,000. Reyashi left behind a son aged three and a year-old daughter. She also murdered four Israelis who came to her assistance when she feigned sickness. Political Correctness: The Incubator of Islamism By Amil Imani

Time and again we are told by the politically correct “experts” not to worry about Islam posing a threat to our way of life. We are repeatedly lectured that only a very small minority of Muslims are troublemakers who are giving the peaceful masses of Muslims a bad name. We are also informed that the terrorists, who happened to be Muslims, are the disaffected and the young. And not to worry, since as the fire of youth turns to ashes of old age the rebellious will mellow, as they always have.
With heavy assurances like this, coming from so many know-it-all authoritative figures, we can sleep soundly without the aid of sleeping pills. After all, people reason that these pundits are “experts” whose job is to know and tell it like it is. Those who voice contrary views must be a bunch of racist, alarmist hate mongers. Who is right?

Wouldn’t be more prudent to let the facts settle the matter, rather than blindly accepting either position? Of course it would, except for one huge problem. In the face of threats, people tend to go to the mind’s medicine cabinet and take a few denial and rationalization pills, in the same way that it is the aspirin bottle they turn to when a headache strikes. Why not? We are the Easy Species. We love effortless, quick and simple solutions. And that’s not invariably bad. It has given us all kinds of labor and time saving devices.

The Convergence of Crime and Terror By Daveed Gartenstein-Ross

By 1931, Al Capone was a celebrity criminal with a litany of offenses that included murder, bribery, and running illegal breweries. But the government would have had trouble proving his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt for his most notorious activities, and charged him with tax evasion. Although the mobster swore that the government couldn't collect legal taxes from illegal money, he proved to be wrong -- and entered prison on May 5, 1932. This was the most famous example of a model that law enforcement adopted to deal with the unique problem of the mob, a model that placed a higher priority on neutralizing mob leaders and their activities than on winning the heaviest sentence. Thus, mob leaders were often prosecuted for, and convicted of, lesser offenses discovered by investigators. Because of the difficulty of convicting terrorists and their supporters of their most serious offenses, the "Al Capone model" of prosecuting for applicable lesser offenses has also been used frequently in terrorism cases.

Relearning with today's totalitarians what we should have known all along By Sol Sanders

Through the din of the cut and thrust of Washington politics at the moment — a necessary if destructive part of the democratic system — there is the necessity “to preserve your courage and your head” as Kipling said.

The eruption of worldwide terrorism in the name of Islam is a kind of fascism, an effort to turn back the clock to an earlier ideal of a perfect society which never existed; or as Aneurin Bevin said about European fascism of the 1930s, “[F]ascism is not in itself a new order of society; it is the future refusing to be born.”

As throughout its history, jihadist Islam will dissolve, eventually, in a bloodbath of ethnic and internecine rivalries [the preview is seen today in Iraq and on the streets of Karachi], if its opponents in the West maintain their ground [as they did at Tours and Vienna].

In response last year Congress passed, and the President signed into law, legislation calling for the construction of those 854 miles of border fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite this legislative mandate by the U.S. Congress, the Department of Homeland Security recently announced its intention to build only 370 miles of fencing along the border, not the 854 miles required by the legislation.

Now, before you go off castigating me for going off into tin-foil hat territory, I am not saying that this is their stated goal. I do not believe that the Democrats think they are creating a permanent lower, slave class. But, they are looking to create a permanent class of voters who will keep them in power because those voters would ostensibly be forever dependent upon Democrats’ control of government handouts. And that, when all is said and done, is just the same as intending to keep lower class, uneducated (currently) illegal aliens in thrall and enslaved to Democrat Party operatives and in a permanent status as lower class citizens unable to rise from their downtrodden position on the lowest rungs of the ladder of success.

'I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.'
So said Abe Lincoln to the Young Men's Lyceum in Springfield. Observing the Senate last week, and looking over the latest figures from the Census Bureau, America is now risking national suicide.
Last week, senators meeting in secret produced a bill to legalize our 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens. If a path to citizenship becomes law, nothing will stop the next invasion. The Global Elite: Who are they? :: The August Review

"Who are the central/core perpetrators of globalistion and the New World Order? To truly understand globalization you must have a firm grasp on who the real movers and shakers are... and pass by myriads of wannabe big-shots. Members of the elite core are not hard to spot, once you know what to look for. Introduction

There are two common misconceptions held by those who are critical of globalism.
The first error is that there is a very small group of people who secretly run the world with all-powerful and unrestrained dictatorial powers. The second error is that there is a large amorphous and secret organization that runs the world. In both cases, the use of the word 'they' becomes the culprit for all our troubles, whoever 'they' might be. If taxes go up, it is 'they' that did it. If the stock market goes down, 'they' are to blame. Of course, nobody really knows who 'they' are so a few figureheads (people or organizations) are often made out to be the scapegoats.

Depending on a person's politics and philosophy, the scapegoats could be the U.S. President, the ACLU, the Ford Foundation, or Vladimir Putin. The point is, the real power structure is not correctely defined, and thus escapes exposure. "

From stolen fertilizer to shop vacs... or how not to alarm the public By Douglas J. Hagmann

"21 May 2007: Question: What looks like fertilizer, smells like fertilizer, is packaged commercially like fertilizer, is labeled as fertilizer, has a total weight of 5 tons, and is the subject of a wide search by law enforcement officials? Answer: Twenty-eight pallets of commercial 'shop vac' style vacuum cleaners, according to public information officials at the Los Angeles Police Department. The story itself smells as bad as the raw cargo that went missing from a tractor trailer in the Los Angeles area sometime Sunday. The mysterious morphing of 5 tons of potentially lethal bomb material, however crude, into 28 pallets of high-powered sucking devices evolved unchecked by media sources, but became the target of our research and investigation.

Since the initial report that a tractor trailer hauling five tons – 10,000 pounds of nitrate based fertilizer was stolen in California on Sunday, the Northeast Intelligence Network has been closely researching this incident. According to initial reports, a tractor-trailer was stolen while the driver took a break Sunday afternoon, parking his truck in an industrial area near Griffith Park, northeast of downtown Los Angeles. When he returned for his rig about 5 hours later, the tractor-trailer was gone. According to the initial reports to law enforcement, the driver was transporting 10,000 pounds of bagged nitrate based fertilizer he was to deliver from Texas to the Home Depot store in Tracy, California."

U.S. cannot afford to bring more high school dropouts into country, says scholar (OneNewsNow.com)

"A domestic policy scholar has studied the long-term economic effects of adding millions more low-skilled immigrants to the U.S. work force if President Bush and members of Congress give amnesty to illegal aliens living in the country. He is very concerned about the so-called 'comprehensive immigration reform' plan working its way through Congress."

Robert Rector is senior research fellow in domestic policy at the Heritage Foundation. He says in the last 20 years, the United States has imported ten million high school dropouts from abroad, who on average receive "about $30,000 [a year] in government benefits, including public schooling, welfare, Social Security, Medicaid, public housing and so forth."

However, these immigrants only pay about $10,000 in taxes, Rector points out. "So there's a gap of about $20,000 a year of services that they receive that they don't pay for with their own taxes," he says.

Congressman issues dire warning about amnesty fallout By Jim Brown

"A Virginia congressman says the so-called 'comprehensive immigration reform' proposal in the U.S. Senate is an 'awful' bill that will encourage more illegal immigration and eventually turn the U.S. into a Third World country."

The bill being debated by the Senate would grant legal status to the approximately 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens currently living in the U.S. It also includes provisions that would "accelerate" the Security and Prosperity Partnership, a Bush administration plan to merge the U.S. with Mexico and Canada in a North American Union.

Representative Virgil Goode (R-Virginia) hopes the bill's backers will be unable to obtain cloture in the Senate and the bill fails. He says the overwhelming majority of Americans oppose amnesty for illegal aliens.

Hillary Clinton, a Trojan Horse? By Bernard Chapin

"The Extreme Makeover illustrates Hillary’s unfamiliarity with the virtue of responsibility, and that she is every bit as prolific and stunning a liar as her husband. The junior senator’s personality revolves around a lust for power, a need to control others, and rampant insecurity. Anger and irritability are natural attributes, and but only her family, advisors, and the secret service are allowed to observe them.
Like many conservatives, I’ve been a frequent consumer of Hillariana over the years. I fondly recall the chapters of The Hillary Trap: Looking for Power in all the Wrong Places, Hell to Pay: The Unfolding Story of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Madame Hillary: The Dark Road to the White House, and Rewriting History. So, with a mix of stimulation and fatigue, I opened Bay Buchanan’s newly released The Extreme Makeover of Hillary (Rodham) Clinton. "

The Danger of Liberalism By Michael P. Tremoglie

"Liberals, aided by their political representatives, the leftwing of the Democratic Party, have made Americans so self-conscious about being careful not to be racist or even appear to think racist thoughts or to even think of possibly violating someone’s civil rights, that the average American might ignore evidence of a terrorist plot simply to avoid doing so.
“I don't know what to do. Should I call someone or is that being racist?”
These were the words of a young Circuit City store clerk after seeing a video made by the Fort Dix Six terrorists of their firearms training. It indicates how indoctrinated in the thoughts, attitudes, philosophy, and beliefs of politically correct liberalism Americans have become. That this young man should even have to think twice about reporting possible terrorist activity is astounding – and dangerous."

WorldNetDaily: Why Bush boggles the mind By Joseph Farah

"As if President Bush didn't have enough problems in his beleaguered Justice Department, a couple more key officials resigned last week.
One of them was a real surprise to me. His name was Lanny Davis.
Do you remember Lanny Davis from the Clinton years? He was the ultimate spinner – one of the very public faces of the scandal years, defending his boss come hell or Whitewater.
So why was his resignation from the Bush administration a surprise to me?
That wasn't the surprise at all. The surprise was that he was in the Bush administration in the first place.
When did this happen? Why? How? While Clinton wasted no time firing every U.S. attorney in the country to stack the department with his political sycophants, Bush apparently was busy filling Justice with people who were certain to turn against him. "

Why the Left Hated Jerry Falwell So Much By J.R. Dunn

"Jerry Falwell's funeral is today, and now that he is being laid to rest, it is appropriate to dissect the vicious treatment he has received at the hands of his enemies since his unexpected demise. We might have guessed that Jerry Falwell's death would be the occasion for a nice little corpse-kicking spree, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant to witness.

The San Francisco gays held an 'anti-memorial' in light of Falwell's adamant opposition to gay rights (though Falwell was on record in his support for basic civil rights for gays). The posts at Democratic Underground and Kos were about what you'd expect - comparisons to Hitler, Osama bin Laden, and Hussein (though not Fidel Castro, who actually ordered experiments performed on male homosexuals), mixed with various obscene and coarse speculations best left ignored. There He Goes Again By William Murchison

"'Pot calling the kettle black' is how we might feel tempted to characterize Jimmy Carter's embarrassing assault on George W. Bush and Tony Blair for their part in liberating Iraq: 'overt reversal of America's values,' 'abominable,' 'subservient,' blah, blah, blah.
Giving way to such a temptation would amount to putting Bush and Blair on the same level as Jimmy Carter. No way. When it comes to incompetence, Carter stands splendidly alone among modern presidents.
It was never the way of James Earl Carter Jr., to keep his moral pronouncements to himself, but this past weekend's tirade -- petty, vain, spiteful -- is bad even by Carter's low standards. In conversing with BBC radio and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, he shows not the least concern for the spectacle of a former U.S. president calumniating one of his successors, together with a loyal American ally."

The head of the National Endowment for the Humanities stands up for American exceptionalism. BY JUDITH H. DOBRZYNSKI

"Was it artful or accidental? It's hard to say with a man like Bruce Cole, the clever but low-key chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. There, on the coffee table of the sitting area in his office one recent day, were a few posters that just happen to unite Mr. Cole's longstanding personal interests and his more recent professional ones.
The posters display Grant Wood's fanciful painting 'The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere,' this time galloping to announce the NEH's 'Picturing America' campaign. As part of that pilot program, the NEH will distribute laminated posters depicting 40 artworks that teachers can use to teach American history. Besides the Grant Wood, there's Norman Rockwell's 'Freedom of Speech,' Joseph Stella's 'Brooklyn Bridge' and Dorothea Lange's iconic photograph 'Migrant Mother,' among others. It would be hard to find a program more indicative of Mr. Cole, an art historian who came to the NEH 5 1/2 years ago and has since spread the alarm about Americans' ignorance of American history--and why that's so distressing. Why Bin Laden Attacked America Barbara J. Stock

"In a recent Republican debate, one hopeful candidate made an astounding statement that indicated that he believed that Bin Laden attacked America on September 11, 2001, because, “We've been over there, we've been bombing Iraq for 10 years. We've been in the Middle East.” Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, made this stunning statement which effectively ended any serious possibility that Paul may have had at winning the nomination.

There are more than a few flaws in his line of thought. While the liberals cheered Rep. Paul, they overlooked that if the congressman were right, it would dispel their theory that Bin Laden and Saddam would not even speak to each other. Why would Bin Laden put his life and treasure on the line for a man he hated? But the dangerous part of that line of thought is the notion that men such as Bin Laden are only attacking Americans because “We’ve been in the Middle East.” It is sad that after all this time, someone running for the highest office in the land remains so ignorant about the enemy that America and the free world faces."

Last Stand for American Soveringnty By Cliff Kincaid

Perhaps if 'sovereignty' had big breasts and shapely legs, like Anna Nicole Smith, we might stand a chance of getting some more coverage. Tragically, American sovereignty seems to be meeting the same fate as Miss Smith.

The U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), now being pushed by the Bush administration for a quick vote, is already starting to get rave reviews from the press, with the Sacramento Bee saying that protecting the oceans of the world could be Bush's 'legacy.' The message to Bush is that he should go out as a liberal and he may salvage some of his reputation. But he will lose what is left of his conservative base."

Islamberg not the only radical Muslim compound flourishing in North America By Judi McLeod

Islamberg is just one of what is thought to be a half dozen radical Muslim paramilitary compounds flourishing across the United States, this one nestled in dense forest at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains on the outskirts of Hancock, New York.

Canada, home to at least one such compound, is no safe ground.

Now that the photos of the two unidentified FBI types have been published, we will undoubtedly hear that they were merely working undercover. But some sticklers would consider saying cheese from the dinner table of the enemy is over the top.

Misguided Christians and Liberals by Thomas Brewton

Pope Benedict confronted this materialistic doctrine in his recent journey to Brazil. Variously known as liberation theology or the social gospel, the belief that the political state has the capacity, as well as the duty, to compel its citizens to follow certain ways of thinking and behavior, is not Christianity, but socialism.

Father Robert A. Sirico deals with the Pope's endeavor in his May 18th article in the Wall Street Journal titled Liberating Christianity.

The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.

Project Payback: Google-Bombing Pro-Amnesty, Republican Senators Up For Election In 2008

Since 2005, conservatives have been loudly saying, secure the border, build the fence, crack down on the people hiring illegal aliens, and no amnesty. Because those conservatives have put the interests of the American people above those of illegal aliens, they've been ignored, insulted, and talked down to -- not just by the Democrats, which is to be expected, but by Republican senators.

The latest amnesty bill, which was pushed through by Ted Kennedy without going through normal channels in the Senate, is as wildly unpopular as any bill in recent memory with conservatives. For example, on Friday I put up a poll here at Right Wing News that read, "What do you think of the illegal immigration bill the Senate is poised to pass?" 1552 people voted in that poll by the time this post was written and here are the results:

It sounds like a good bill. I support it. (4%)
It sounds like a bad bill. I oppose it. (96%)

The Amnesty Fraud By Thomas Sowell

Nothing is more common than political "solutions" to immediate problems which create much bigger problems down the road. The current immigration bill in the Senate is a classic example.

The big talking point of those who want to legalize the illegal immigrants currently in the United States is to say that it is "unrealistic" to round up and deport 12 million people.

Back in 1986 it was "unrealistic" to round up and deport the 3 million illegal immigrants in the United States then. So they were given amnesty -- honestly labeled, back then -- which is precisely why there are now 12 million illegal immigrants.

As a result of the current amnesty bill -- not honestly labeled, this time -- will it be "unrealistic" to round up and deport 40 million or 50 million illegal immigrants in the future?

If the current immigration bill is as "realistic" as its advocates claim, why is it being rushed through the Senate faster than a local zoning ordinance could be passed?

Senate Placing USA One Step Closer to Oblivion By Sher Zieve

Today, US senators are proud of themselves—very proud. They have affected something that the vast majority of legal voters in the United States didn’t want and have warned their representatives against. But, these senators are the US’ ruling elite—and what they want is all that really matters. And, they want the illegal immigrant vote.

So, these same senators have come to what they are calling a “bi-partisan agreement” on the revised McCain-Kennedy bill that—make no mistake—provides amnesty for the 12 million+ illegals already in the US and encourages more to continue their entry across our nevermore-to-be-protected southern border.

The senate amnesty bill provides immediate legal status to the millions of illegal aliens in our country—placing them above current US law as well as ahead of immigrants seeking legal immigration. In other words, the US Senate is telling us that breaking US law has both tremendous appeal to current and potential lawbreakers and provides exceptional rewards to criminals.

President Bush who, despite protests to the contrary, strongly appears to favor the illegals’ entry to the US applauded the Senate bill and said it provides a solution “without amnesty but, without animosity.”

Of course it’s amnesty!

The definition of amnesty is:

Make the Immigration Bill another "Miers Moment" for President Bush by Jed Babbin

Conservatives need to make this another “Miers Moment” for George W. Bush. Just as we did to stop the risible Supreme Court nomination of Hapless Harriett, conservatives must band together to stop the new Senate illegal immigration “reform” bill. Let us all stand, respectfully, in President Bush’s path with our right hands raised signaling “halt.” We’ve done it before. We can do it again.

President Bush is not solely to blame for this travesty. There’s blame aplenty to go around to Sen. McCain and others. We have to remember that it was only because of strong Republican opposition in the House that a similar blow wasn’t dealt to our national security last year. The Republican majority in the House is gone, and though the Senate may yet stop this particular bill, the President is the key. If he demanded that conservative principles be the foundation of immigration reform, they could be. As he stands now, the President is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Platforms of the Enemy By John Perazzo

The Bush-Kennedy-McCain illegal alien bill that was written behind closed doors out of sight of the people or most of their representatives went to the Senate floor today. This proposed bill is not just a slap in the face of every legal resident of the U.S., it spits in the face of every would-be legal resident who is abiding by our laws and waiting in line to come here legally.

Bush, Kennedy, McCain and the rest of the pro-criminal cabal are telling people in places like Africa, Asia, and elsewhere, they are suckers for abiding by our laws, waiting years and spending thousands of dollars to come here legally. They are announcing o the world that we prefer to have scofflaws and criminals come here than law abiding people who respect our laws and play by the rules.

Gun Control By TexasFred

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

List of 7 items:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'.
Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends and post it on your sites...
