Pardon The Border Two :: Investor's Business Daily

"The Senate will hold hold hearings this week on the imprisonment of two border patrol agents who took their jobs seriously. Will we finally treat them with the compassion and justice reserved for those they tried to apprehend?

As the Democrats continue their fishing expedition into the "political" firings of eight U.S. attorneys, something President Bush is legally and constitutionally allowed to do, we're pleased the Senate is finally going to take up the case brought by one U.S. attorney whose firing would have been completely justified.

That would be the case of former Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos, who are serving 12 and 11 years, respectively, for the non-fatal shooting in 2005 of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila. The agents shot Davila in the buttocks as he was transporting more than 700 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. through Fabens, Texas, about 40 miles east of El Paso. "

CAIR & Hamas: Implications and an Illustration By Aaron Mannes

"Allow me to add a few notes (and a graph) to the many excellent previous posts on Hamas, CAIR, and the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States. It cannot be re-iterated too often that CAIR is a Hamas spin-off. This has implications both for placing CAIR in the proper context, but also for the new challenge of handling the defacto Hamas mini-state in Gaza.

Musa Abu Marzuq, currently the deputy chief of Hamas’ political bureau, earned his Ph.D. in industrial engineering in the United States. Living in the United States from 1981 to 1992 he worked for Hamas. In 1989 he was elected head of Hamas’ political bureau and after Hamas founder Sheikh Yassin’s 1989 arrest he effectively ran Hamas from the United States (see Terror By Remote Control by Yehudit Barsky, Middle East Quarterly, June 1996.)

While in the United States, Abu Marzuq helped found the United Association for Studies and Research and the Islamic Association for Palestine. The Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) was Hamas’ U.S. arm. However, in 1994 then IAP President Omar Ahmad advised then IAP PR director Nihad Awad to start a new organization devoted to combating anti-Muslim discrimination in the U.S. Other CAIR leaders, including Rafeeq Jabar and Ibrahim Hooper also had worked for the IAP. (Full credit for this information goes to CT co-blogger Steve Emerson and the Investigative Project.)"

Democracy is Not a Suicide Pact By Amitai Etzioni

"Some realists argue that if the United States promotes democracy in places such as Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the opening up of these polities would lead to more Islamist states. Thus democratization would damage U.S. interests, installing even more oppressive regimes in the nations involved—regimes that will promote terrorism in other nations to boot. Some “un-realists” argue that the United States should accept such a risk because theocracies are like childhood diseases that nations may have to endure before they can grow up to become democratic.

There is a third way: Opening polities gradually, initially allowing only pro-democratic forces to participate until they are able to compete with the already well-established Islamist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood. Some are much less prepared than others to cope with unrestricted political pluralism. Such nations need a transition period; they cannot jump from the tribal politics of the Stone Age—or from hyper-oppressive regimes—to well-functioning democracies."

Waterston on America by Lawrence Auster

"The actor Sam Waterston, whose parts have ranged from the hysterically whiny and self-righteous liberal New York Times columnist Sidney Schanberg in The Killing Fields, to the hysterically whiny and self-righteous liberal Manhattan D.A. Jack McCoy in Law and Order, delivered a speech to new American citizens at a swearing-in ceremony this past July 4th at Monticello. Waterston's vision of the country that those new citizens are joining is every bit as subversive as you would expect, though Waterston would of course see it as very patriotic. Yes, the speech is patriotic, but it is patriotic only to the universal liberal idea of America, not to America the actual country, political system, and people. Waterston says, among other obnoxious things, that America is 'a contract among individuals around an idea.' Wow. For Sam W., America is even less substantive than, say, a business corporation. At least a business corporation has a legal personality. But, as Waterston sees it, America doesn't even have a legal personality, let alone a cultural personality or a national identity. It's just a contract to believe in an idea.

Waterston continues: "

Senate Democrats Sneak "Hate Crimes" Bill into Crucial Defense Bill :: LifeSite

"Would hold US troops fighting 'War on Terror' as hostages in exchange for sweeping 'hate crimes' legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 13, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Senate Democrats will hold US troops fighting the 'War on Terror' as hostages in exchange for sweeping 'hate crimes' legislation if the Senate votes this week, perhaps as early as Monday, to include it in the defense spending bill.

Instead of introducing the legislation giving sexual orientation 'hate crimes' protection as a separate bill, Senators Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) opted to introduce the 'Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act' as one of hundreds of amendments to the Defense Reauthorization bill requested by President Bush.

'There's no question this is an attempt to sneak the bill in under the most shameful circumstances because they are attaching it to the defense of our military troops,' Mat Staver, founder of the Liberty Counsel told LifeSiteNews.com."

Senate Republicans Strike Back by Matthew Continetti

"Late last week Byron Dorgan, the North Dakota Democrat, offered what he assumed was an uncontroversial amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization bill under consideration in the Senate. The amendment would have increased to $50 million the reward 'for the capture, or information leading to the capture,' of Osama bin Laden. But Senate Republicans noticed something odd about the Dorgan amendment. It contained no mention of a reward for bin Laden's death.

John Sununu, the New Hampshire Republican up for reelection next year, quickly introduced his own amendment striking Dorgan's language and replacing it with a $50 million reward for 'the capture or death or information leading to the capture or death' of bin Laden. Sununu's amendment passed by unanimous consent. The next morning the Senate's number three Republican, Jon Kyl of Arizona, went to the Senate floor and pointed out the discrepancy between Dorgan's and Sununu's amendments. Dorgan's emphasis on 'capturing' bin Laden, Kyl said, was illustrative of the Democrats' approach to terrorists. Kyl said Democrats treat the enemy as criminals to be captured and prosecuted, not enemy soldiers to be detained or destroyed. The revised Dorgan amendment passed overwhelmingly."

LYING POLITICOS AND MEDIA MALFEASANCE by Michael Medved

"Anyone who reads major newspapers or watches TV news would naturally assume that on Thursday, July 2nd, the House of Representatives took a fateful vote to end the Iraq War and to withdraw US troops.

As a matter of fact, the House voted for nothing of the kind, and the public distortions by both parties and all major media demonstrate the shameful gamesmanship on all sides when it comes to Iraq policy.

USA TODAY, the nation’s top circulation newspaper, featured a front page headline that declared “House Votes for Pullout by April” – conveying the impression that the Democrats succeeded, in a party line 223-201 vote, in demanding that all American forces come home by next spring. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer gave its readers a similar impression, with its front page headline: “DEFYING BUSH, HOUSE OKAYS IRAQ EXIT.” Even the New York Times covered the story under the grossly inaccurate summary: A FIRM BUSH TELLS CONGRES NOT TO DICTATE POLICY ON WAR: House Responds by Voting to Withdraw Combat Troops From Iraq by April 1st.” "

India has the world's second largest population of Muslims after Indonesia, but this is the first instance of Indian Muslims being involved in international terrorism. For example, not one Indian citizen is detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the US keeps terror suspects.

Three of the core suspects in the London/Glasgow affair, Kafeel Ahmed, his brother Sabeel Ahmed and their cousin in Australia Mohammed Haneef all came from the southern Indian state of Karnataka. Although Mohammed and Sabeel were doctors, Kafeel was an aeronautical engineer."

Sen. Vitter Outed As Heterosexual: Heterophobia Feared by Mac Johnson

The news came as part of a larger bombshell, as Vitter’s name was revealed to be on the client list of the so-called “D.C. Vitter, obviously unfamiliar with how to react when one’s sexual identity is made public, immediately apologized and foolishly focused on the paying-for-sex aspect of the whole affair. He also used the word “sin,” which at the time that this column went to press, I was unable to find a definition for in my official media dictionary."

--Winston Churchill, at the House of Commons following Prime Minister Chamberlain's signing of the Munich Pact, handing over most of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany in 1938.
Winston Churchill understood the cost of a principled stand. As a fierce critic of Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler in the build up to WWII, Churchill suffered nearly a decade of political isolation. Yet, the prevailing political wisdom was hopelessly naïve, and Churchill, who would l ater lead Europe to victory over fascism, remained singularly focused on awakening war-weary Britain to the gathering storm of terror about to be unleashed. Anti-Catholicism Chic by Ben Johnson

"Rabbi Michael Lerner and other members of the chic cultural Left have denounced a papal decree on the grounds that it might lead to prayer.

Last week, Pope Benedict XVI issued the letter Summorum Pontificum, which allows for wider use of the Latin Mass. In response, Lerner and The Washington Post unleashed a torrent of hatred, ignorance, and religious bigotry unmatched in recent times (John Edwards’ campaign bloggers.aside).

The most widespread, bilious retort was Susan Jacoby’s screed in yesterday’s faith section of The Washington Post website. Jacoby began by assaulting “the retrograde nature of this pope.” She declaimed his act as “an arrogant step backward” secretly undertaken to encourage the belief that Jews are Christ-killers. After assaulting the Pope as misogynistic and obscurantist, she assaulted Catholicism itself: “[T]he chief effect of the vernacular [Mass] was to interrupt the Sunday-morning naps of Catholics.” Jacoby virtually spat her conclusion: “No one should pay the slightest attention to any pronouncements from this pathetic representative of a credulous, conformist past that preceded the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, the Enlightenment and the separation of church and state in the West.”"

Media Matters: Hillary’s Lap Dogs by John Perazzo

"When Don Imus was fired in the wake of his April 4th “nappy-headed ho’s” remarks about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, a great deal of attention was focused, appropriately, on the influence of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, each of whom expressed outrage over the broadcaster’s racial insensitivity and demanded that he be fired. The real guiding hand over Imus’ downfall, however, belonged neither to Sharpton nor Jackson, but to Hillary Rodham Clinton. This is not widely understood, because Mrs. Clinton’s pristine fingerprints were kept off her victim by the intercession of a velvet glove called Media Matters for America, the organization responsible for setting in motion the chain of events that eventually brought down Imus. The toppling of Imus was only a prelude to bigger things for Media Matters, which, because of its strong ties to Mrs. Clinton, is now aiming—just in time for the 2008 presidential election—to derail the careers of a select group of influential broadcasters who, like Imus, have been publicly critical of New York’s junior Senator."

Therefore, consider this an open letter to the good folks of Iowa and New Hampshire: Don't be fooled by this political chameleon, this charlatan, this pretender to the throne.
He's as phony as a three-dollar campaign promise.

Romney has tried to 're-invent' himself as a presidential candidate following his years as governor of Massachusetts. But when a politician has a record of governance by which to judge him, as Romney does, that should serve as the real test of values, beliefs and abilities – not empty words that actually contradict his actions. "To Quin's many fine ideas I would add a political component: From among the Senate Republicans who support a timetable, one or two should become either targets for primary challengers in 2008 or, if need be, targets for defeat by Democrats in the fall of 2008. Unfortunately there don't appear to be any GOP wobblers who could be defeated in a primary, though there are least two --Senators Domenici and Smith of New Mexico and Oregon respectively-- who could fall to a Democrat in the general election if even 10% of the GOP base defected from their cause.

It is crucial to not that neither Senator Domenici nor Senator Smith has yet crossed the political Rubicon that is support for date-certain defeat. Indeed, no GOP senator up for re-election has yet voted for a timetable that passed, and so the need doesn't exist yet to organize other than a general boycott of the NRSC. But if enough Republicans defect to allow such a bill to pass, then the course is clear: I can't support someone who doesn't support victory. I suspect there are tens of thousands of Republican activists who feel the same way."

I read it, and while I have no idea whether or not the signatories are brave, their musings certainly illustrate why modern intellectuals are sorely lacking in intellectualism.

The proclamation's primary flaw is evident in the first two sentences:

'After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new totalitarian global threat: Islamism. We, writers, journalists, intellectuals, call for resistance to religious totalitarianism and for the promotion of freedom, equal opportunity and secular values for all [emphasis mine].' "

Rarely in military history has an “orderly” withdrawal followed a theater-sized defeat and the flight of several divisions. Abruptly leaving Iraq would be a logistical and humanitarian catastrophe. The Truth Behind the Veil By Weam Namou

"During my trip to Baghdad five years ago I visited my parents' Christian village in Mosil and asked my cousins to find me an abayya in the souk. He found one I liked, disputed with the merchant over a few dinars, wanted to walk out, and at my plea, agreed on a price. I left with an abbaya that today still has some of the spices I'd carried in my luggage in a journey that lasted from Baghdad to Detroit three days.

What's an abbaya? It's a veil that reminds me of my mother and the neighborhood women who'd sometimes wear it when they went to the market. Since Saddam encouraged women to wear western clothing and he was against Islamic fundamentalists, the burka wasn't allowed in Iraq.

Usually older women wore the abbaya. They did so for religious purposes, as Islam requires women to dress modestly in order to keep the focus of beauty on spiritual and not superficial attributes. Wearing the veil was also a way to avoid harassment. But mostly, they wore it because it was part of a culture that predates Islam by many centuries.

In the Near East, Assyrian kings first introduced both the seclusion of women in royal harem and the veil. Prostitutes and slaves, however, were told not to veil, and were slashed if they disobeyed this law. This practice also appeared in classical Greece, in the Byzantine Christian world, in Persia and in India among upper caste women. It's suggested that afterwards it spread among the Arabs. "

Recruiting in the West: The Lure of Radical Islamic Terror By Dr. Deborah Schurman-Kauflin

"Many question why individuals located in or raised in the freedoms of the West would ever want to engage in terrorism. What would make someone who had seen all of the good things freedom has to offer, turn against that freedom? When consulting with and training law enforcement I point out that often, members of terror groups are professional and very well educated. Terror organizations purposely encourage recruits to become learned, particularly in hard sciences, so that they can understand Western technology and use it against the enemy. Every facet of the enemy should be contemplated, absorbed, and repackaged for use by the terror group. Thus, it was not surprising that the latest terror plot in Europe involved doctors. Anyone can be recruited into a terror organization as long as the individual has the right mindset. Whether one is African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, professional or blue collar, male or female, young or old, the terror draw is always dependent upon the individual’s personality. "

Change brings opportunities and challenges. The view the environment as equilibrium is a significant mistake and the source of much of the error of those who want to exclude human activities from … most of the planet.

I am been accused to seeing things from my own point of view and of course I am guilty of that. The point of view problem seems to be most acute in environmental affairs. I love nature and have for as long as I can recall. Yet I cannot understand the point of view of some self proclaimed environmentalists. I believe good environmental stewardship allows – requires – that we cut some trees, kill some animals and balance preservation, conservation and wise use. The individual tree, animal or tract of land is usually meaningless; the whole system is what counts. "

Counterterrorism Blog :: America’s Muslim Representatives: Are the Right Questions Asked? By Zeyno Baran

"American officials are rightly eager to promote moderate Muslims. However, words alone cannot be the basis to determine whether someone is truly committed to the Constitution and to American pluralism. While many public Muslim figures will surely say the things we would expect to hear from them, we should not so readily bestow upon anyone the title of “moderate” title without a thorough investigation of the person’s background.

The recent White House appointment of Imam Talal Eid to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) may be an example of just such a rush to judgment. The Commission is, as it describes itself, an “independent, bipartisan U.S. government agency … to monitor the status of freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief abroad, as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights … and to give independent policy recommendations to the President, the Secretary of State, and the Congress.” Given the importance of this Commission, one would expect the Executive Branch to have done the necessary checks on its appointees, especially when it comes to their views on religious freedom and Islamist terrorism.

As a Muslim, I am happy that the USCIRF includes a Muslim commissioner, given that there is so little religious freedom across the Islamic world. That said, I certainly do want any commissioner—whether Muslim or non-Muslim—to be fully committed to American ideals and principles, including secular democracy and the protection and equality of all human beings, especially regardless of gender."

"Melanie Phillips continues to wage war against Britain's refusal to wage war against jihadist Islam. She starts a column in USA Today with the words: 'Britain is now fighting a war it dares not name.' What she actually means is that the people she calls 'Islamists,' i.e., radical Muslims, are fighting a war against Britain, and that Britain is not fighting back, but is retreating and even refusing to name the enemy.

Then she says that the real problem is that
the British government is pandering to the refusal by most British Muslims to acknowledge that Islamist terrorism is rooted in their religion and that this is a problem with which they must themselves deal.

Because it is not enough for them to condemn terrorism. They must also repudiate, publicly and authoritatively, those parts of their religion that mandate hatred of the unbeliever and holy war.

Lizard Listing By Jeffrey Lord

"It was a front-page story, fairly typical for the Post. Its equivalents have been run doubtless by the hundreds during the course of various Republican administrations since the Nixon years, arguably the dawning era of today's culture wars.

Yet as Americans really laser in on what O'Reilly is saying in describing an ongoing battle between 'Secular Progressives' or 'SP's' and 'Traditional Warriors' or 'T-Warriors' (and if bestseller lists and O'Reilly's radio and TV ratings are any indication than they surely are), understanding what's really being said in this June 21st Post article is worth translating into plainer language. And no spin: its implications for any Republican elected president in 2008 are as important as they have been for the Bush presidency and every one of Bush's recent Republican predecessors.

The story, headlined 'Political Hiring in Justice Division Probed,' is a classic example of O'Reilly's 'SP's' duking it out with 'T-Warriors.' Doubtless unwittingly, it spotlights one aspect of the culture wars that has somehow managed to escape serious scrutiny -- the federal government bureaucracy and the much ballyhooed fiction that career government officials are sterling non-partisans of a neutral Civil Service."

Probably, but then that might be an incentive for us to really bring the fight to them in a way that Fred and Gunz and I were trained to do so long ago. ‘Nuff said

Sage, I honestly don’t think we have to worry about ANY terrorists following us home, if the terrorists are going to be HERE, in the USA, they are here right now, they aren’t going to FOLLOW us anywhere...

Betrayed by His Own Government—Officer Recommends General Court-Martial For LtCol Chessani Thomas Moore Law Center

The Thomas More Law Center, a national public-interest legal advocacy firm today announced that Colonel Christopher Conlin, USMC has recommended that LtCol Chessani face a general court-martial. The Law Center has been representing Lieutenant
Colonel Jeffrey Chessani, USMC since January of this year. Chessani is charged with “dereliction of duty” and “orders” violations. These charges stem from a battle in the insurgent held town of Haditha, Iraq on November 19, 2005. Marines were alleged to have purposely killed Iraqi civilians and that their officers were involved in a “cover-up” of the incident.

Richard Thompson, the President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center commented, “This recommendation deals more with political correctness than criminality. Colonel Chessani is chastised in the report because he had more confidence in his men than in insurgent propaganda. It glorifies paper pushing over fighting and has the unintended
consequence of dampening the spirit of the most ferocious fighters on Earth.”

Continued Thompson, “This fight is about the future of the American fighting man. If good officers and men like LtCol Chessani can’t react to combat situations the way they were trained, if our young soldiers are forced to hesitate in battle because they may be criminally charged by their own government, they will be killed. Further, if the higher command doesn’t correct the injustice of this flawed recommendation, ultimately there will be no aggressive military left to defend the life of our nation.”

Marine Heroes of Haditha Need Your Help!

Marine Heroes Banner
Three brave Marines urgently need your help.

You may have heard of these Marines associated with an incident in Haditha, Iraq - an incident that has put them under threat of a court martial, perhaps leading to life imprisonment on unjustified charges of murder.
We at NewsMax have reported the truth about this case for over the past year with comprehensive coverage from our correspondent Phil Brennan. We believe a grave injustice has been committed against these hero Marines.
In fact, just this week an investigating officer conducting an Article 32 hearing - the military equivalent of a grand jury hearing - in the case of one of the three Marines, Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, issued a report indicating that Sharratt should be exonerated and not subjected to a court martial. [You can help these Marines with their legal defense - Go Here Now.]

Here is some background on these courageous young men, Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum, and Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich.
In a first tour of duty in Iraq, two of these Marines, Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum, 26, and Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, 22, fought fearlessly in the second battle of Fallujah, a small city in al Anbar province north of Baghdad known as the Sunni Triangle.
This battle, in November 2004, was one of the fiercest and bloodiest engagements in the long and proud history of the Marine Corps, and earned both Sharratt and Tatum the admiration and respect of their fellow Marines in the 3rd battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, the storied "Thundering Third."
Both Tatum and Sharratt were at the infamous "Hell House" fight at Fallujah immortalized in Nat Helms book "My Men are My Heroes." In this vicious battle wounded Marines fended off a fierce guerilla attack for almost 24 hours.
In all, Sharratt and Tatum's "Thundering Third" claimed more than 1,000 enemy combatant kills during its second deployment to Iraq during 2004.
In the days before and after that bloody incident, Sharratt and Tatum fought side-by-side in the terrifying street-by-street, house-by-house fight to cleanse that city of the al-Qaida thugs terrorizing Fallujah.
In their second tour of duty, this time in insurgent-controlled Haditha, they faced an enemy lurking in the shadows among the civilian population, on the lookout for a chance to ambush Marines or kill them with hidden explosive IEDs or sniper fire.
On Nov. 19, 2005 an IED exploded under a Humvee killing the driver Miguel Terrazas and wounding two other members of Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion 1st Marines, James Crossan and Salvador Guzman.
The surviving Marines then came under fire from two houses near the site of the explosion.
Almost immediately, a white sedan came on the scene and 3rd Battalion Marine Sgt. Frank Wuterich, 27, aware from an intelligence briefing that had warned of an impending ambush involving a white car, killed the occupants as they came out of the vehicle and they refused to stop when ordered to do so.
A rapid response team arrived on the scene 15 minutes after the IED explosion and the officer in command ordered Wuterich and his men to clear the two houses.
In the course of what became a fierce, door-to-door, full-day battle, 24 Iraqis were killed - at least eight insurgent terrorists were believed to be among them. But some civilians were clearly killed in the crossfire.
Despite the loss of civilian life, the military was satisfied the Marines had acted properly because an intelligence officer, Capt. Jeff Dinsmore, had carefully monitored the engagement.
Dinsmore kept a narrative complete with photos from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), transcripts of radio transmissions from the scene of action, and reports from some of the participants all the way up the command ladder.
Dinsmore's reports proved conclusively that the actions of the Marines were proper and justified.
Months later, in March of the next year, wild allegations began to surface that these Marines knowingly massacred innocent Iraqi civilians.
The hysteria against these Marines was set off by a Time magazine reporter whose only sources were known insurgent propagandists, civilian supporters of al-Qaida, or civilians intimidated by al-Qaida thugs.
On the basis of the Time story alone, and in the face of the fact that Time was forced to retract parts of the initial story four times, the media across the world reported that the Kilo Company Marines had gone on a rampage.
The Time report claimed Marines had massacred 24 innocent civilians on Nov. 19, 2005, in retaliation for the death by IED of one of their fellow Marines.
In response to the media charges and those echoed by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., and the result of a badly bungled investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS), the three heroes were falsely charged with a number of counts of murder. [You can help these Marines - Go Here Now.]

Since then, these Marine heroes and their parents have been living a life of total hell.
As it now stands, the three Marines have yet to be cleared and their future remains uncertain.
Of course, the legal defense costs for these Marines have placed an enormous burden on them and their families.
One defense lawyer estimated that by the time the prosecution is over, the Marines - defenders of freedom, with limited incomes and resources - will have incurred legal expenses amounting to $250,000 each.
That's why we are asking our readers to help these young brave Marines with their legal defense costs - you can do so by Going Here Now.

Already Stephen Tatum's parents say they have had to take out a second mortgage on their home to help pay just a fraction of the cost of their hero son's defense.
We will be forever indebted to these heroic young men and women who serve to protect us in Iraq - they do not deserve to be tortured with criminal allegations and overwhelming financial burdens.

Heroic Americans

Let me tell you about these young men whose extraordinary heroism and exceptional service to their country has been rewarded by totally unjustified charges of murder.
Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum hails from Oklahoma City, Okla.
He graduated from the Putnam City public schools. He enjoyed playing sports in grade school followed by football in high school.
His parents say Stephen has always had a positive attitude, and was well liked by his teachers and friends.
Stephen, they told NewsMax.com, is a religious person who enjoys going to church with family and friends. He always wanted to be a Marine and has served his country with great pride, honor, and dedication.
Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich was an honor student from Meriden, Conn., an active sportsman who played the trumpet in the school band and performed with the drama club.
While still in his senior year of high school, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
For the past eight years he has been an outstanding leader with many decorations and commendations.
Ironically before being charged with murder he had been recommended for the Bronze Star for the very actions at Haditha that resulted in the charges.
Frank is married to Marisol, a nursing student. They have three children. He has a passion for music.
Lance Cpl. Justin L. Sharratt is a native of Washington, Pa.
His dad, Daryl Sharratt recalls that as a child, his son was captivated by the military. He built forts and military barriers with building blocks and had small armies of play soldiers. That interest continued into his teens.
An avid outdoorsman, he joined the Boy Scouts and spent numerous weekends camping on the shores of the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers. He has a passion for fishing.
At the age of 12, Justin joined the Navy Sea Cadets in South Bend, Ind., and attended his first boot camp at an Air Force Reserve installation in Wisconsin.
While attending Penn High School in Indiana, Justin played soccer, football, and roller hockey. While in 10th grade, Justin told his parents he was joining the Marines. He told his parents he wanted to be the best of the best.
When Justin was 17 years old, he enrolled in the Delayed Entry Program with the Marines. On July 28, 2003, just one month after his graduation from high school, he left for boot camp.
His parents say, "We are so proud of him. He is, and will always be, our hero."

GOD IS A WINDOW INTO OUR HUMANITY :: Dr. Sanity

One of the issues I wrestle with on a regular basis is faith and belief in God. I go back and forth in my own mind about His existence. Though I alternately harbor grave doubts about and grandiose detachment from the Almighty; I am also very aware of an almost desperate desire on my part to want God to be real.

Because it seems to me that, only if He is real do the concepts of justice or truth live up to their meaning; and only then does the universe make sense. Only if God is real does the meaning of life take on a dimension that is worthy of the human mind.

The cuneiform inscription in a tablet dating from 595BC has been deciphered for the first time - revealing a reference to an official at the court of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, that proves the historical existence of a figure mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah. It is rare evidence in a non-biblical source of a real person, other than kings, featured in the Bible.

Recruiting in the West: The Lure of Radical Islamic Terror By Dr. Deborah Schurman-Kauflin

Many question why individuals located in or raised in the freedoms of the West would ever want to engage in terrorism.

A Future Contract with America :: On Tap

A little while back, I wrote, “before a political movement - any movement, not just conservatives - can use technology to promote its message, it needs to agree on what that message is. If one had to propose a new Contract With America, could conservatives formulate a list of ten legislative proposals that would get 90 for 9? (Meaning, 90 percent of conservatives agreed with 9 of them?)”

Cam and I talked a bit about this off line. I loved Cam’s idea of framing the list as “A Contract With Our Children” –evoking the “Contract With America” while turning around Hillary’s ever-present “it’s for the CHILDREN!” mantra for the right.

But after weeks of wrangling with what ten issues and proposals could get 90 percent of conservatives (and a big chunk of the public) to back nine of them, I’ve finally made up my list. Here’s a list of ten – first the principle or idea behind the idea, and then the policy proposal that grows out of it.

Khudayr Taher, an Iraqi Shi'ite writer living in the U.S., is a man of refreshing honesty and unanswerable logic. Below is his statement at Elaph, a liberal, Arab language website. It is so remarkable that it may seem like a hoax, but it was translated and posted at MEMRI, and they are not known for gullibility. Also, if Taher had been looking to fool the public, it seems likely that he would have written his comment in English so as to assure a wider readership. Yes, it's possible that the statement is a fraud and that it was posted in Arabic to make it seem genuine. However, my own feeling, based on the statement's sincere tone, is that it's real. I think that Taher simply wrote down his honest, unadorned thoughts about what the Western countries must do if they are to rid themselves of the terrorist threat--thoughts that any sensible person would have whose mind was not clouded by liberalism or twisted by hatred of the West. Here iss what he said:

Personal sovereignty By Alan Keyes

Of all the articles in the "Crisis of the Republic" series, this one is the most important. It deals with the relationship between the sovereignty and democratic self-government of our nation as a whole and the personal sovereignty and self-control of individual citizens.

The failure to think through and act upon the consequences of this relationship is the main reason for the Democratic Party's near total abandonment of America's principles, as well as the inadequacy and failure of the current leadership of the Republican Party. It is the main reason the American people are so close to losing their capacity for self-government — and their constitutional position of sovereignty over their government at all levels. We are being thrust aside by forces that take advantage of our moral vulnerability to turn us from free people into masses dominated and virtually enslaved by the manipulation of our selfish passions.

The conclusion suggests that the group that launched the most devastating terror attack on the United States has been able to rebuild despite nearly six years of bombings, war and other tactics aimed at crippling it.
Still, numerous government officials say they know of no specific, credible threat of a new attack.

A counterterrorism official familiar with a five-page summary of the new government threat assessment called it a stark appraisal that will be discussed at the White House on Thursday as part of a broader meeting on an upcoming National Intelligence Estimate.
The official and others spoke on condition of anonymity because the secret report remains classified. "

Prior to his election, Henry Kissinger labeled Reagan “the most dangerous man in America;” now a major political party considers itself nothing less than “the party of Reagan.” Even more, the centrality of Reagan bespeaks the success of his ideas, the ascendancy of conservatism on the American political stage."

Democrats' Fear of Iraq Surge Success Grows - Sher Zieve

"On Monday, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told reporters that he and other Democrats were not willing to wait for evaluated reports on the troop surge in Iraq. Reid advised that he and his colleagues are moving at virtual breakneck speed to formulate and pass an anti-war bill. While al-Qaeda continues to practice all manner of depravities and perversions - the latest reported corruption being the terrorist organization's penchant for the profane via literally (not figuratively) baking the children of those it wishes to intimidate and then 'serving' said cooked progeny to their parents - most of their debaucheries still go unreported by the terrorist-enabling leftist worldwide press. Most certainly Harry Reid and other Democrat and RINO leaders committed to surrender won’t mention the actual performance and true scope of the Islamists’ goals. Instead, Reid and other appeasers are unwilling to wait for any and all reports from those actually functioning in the Iraq battle theatre. As reports from the front suggest the surge (AKA Operation Arrowhead Ripper) actually is working, the leftist and overwhelmingly Democrat US mainstream media continues their attempts to bury the story. The cells are already here, while more are coming By Walid Phares

"The current media rush to interpret what the US Government is releasing in terms of potential infiltration by an al Qaeda cell (or cells) to strike this summer is warranted but still unfocused. ABC News and AP have reported new official 'concerns' of an attack on the US homeland this summer. ABC specified that (according to its sources) the Terrorists intend to attack a Government facility. Furthermore, as reported widely in the press, 'new intelligence suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the US, or may already be here.' The report added that the White House has convened an urgent multi-agency meeting for Thursday afternoon to address ways to minimize or counter the threat, and steps to harden and protect Government facilities.'"

A late education in the West By Wesley Pruden

Not a Presbyterian

Gordon Brown, the new prime minister in London, is determined to learn the hard way that terrorism is real, that terrorists are not impressed by well-meaning softlings and fearful mollycoddlers.

Mr. Brown moved into No. 10 Downing Street a fortnight ago and even before the missus learned where to keep her brooms, mops and wash buckets, the new P.M. was hard at work sweeping all traces of Tony Blair's war on terror into the rubbish bin. (That's what our English cousins call the garbage can.)

Pandering to Perverts 101::By Kevin McCullough

"John Edwards, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton said they stood on journalistic principle when they months ago refused to accept the invitation of Brit Hume (America's most credible anchorman) and Fox News Channel (America's most watched news network) when FNC extended an invitation to host what would easily the most watched Democratic Presidential candidate debate to date. Attempting to smear Fox News as a less than credible broker of fair and balanced news coverage Edwards, then Obama, and finally Clinton waived at the invite.

So what kind of journalists do they have at LOGO-TV?"

The "surge" is working BY KIMBERLY KAGAN

"In Washington perception is often mistaken for reality. And as Congress prepares for a fresh debate on Iraq, the perception many members have is that the new strategy has already failed.

This isn't an accurate reflection of what is happening on the ground, as I saw during my visit to Iraq in May. Reports from the field show that remarkable progress is being made. Violence in Baghdad and Anbar Province is down dramatically, grassroots political movements have begun in the Sunni Arab community, and American and Iraqi forces are clearing al Qaeda fighters and Shiite militias out of long-established bases around the country.

This is remarkable because the military operation that is making these changes possible only began in full strength on June 15. To say that the surge is failing is absurd. Instead Congress should be asking this question: Can the current progress continue?"

Europe's 'Immigrant Problems' Close to Boiling Point by Warner Todd Huston

"Islamofascism is fast over taking the immigrant communities of old Europe. Now, by 'immigrant community' Europeans mean Muslim immigrants, of course. Whether they be Moroccans, or Africans or what have you, large segments of Europe's immigrants are from Muslim countries and these insular communities are long past the point of being merely troublesome already having become an outright danger. It has been a long time coming, but some Europeans are finally getting to the point of having had enough. More and more are finally beginning to speak out. But Europe’s empty PC attitudes and platitudes are hard in dying.

We are all aware of the on going riots and mass car burnings in France, but what many Americans ate not aware of is the increasing violence and sexual abuse that is occurring amongst Europe's most Islamicized immigrant communities. From Sweden, to Germany to the Netherlands, all across old Europe the danger, crime and poverty of their Muslim immigrant communities is growing exponentially every year."

Proud to Be An American by Greg C. Reeson

"Howard Zinn, writing recently in The Progressive, said that this Independence Day Americans '…would have done well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed.' His column was an argument against the basic idea that we should consider ourselves Americans, and instead advocated an 'allegiance to the human race,' as if the two were somehow incompatible.

He described our soldiers in Iraq as 'victims…of our government's lies' and claimed that Americans suffer from 'a loss of a sense of proportion.' To support this claim, he said nationalist thinking had led us to such actions as the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in response to Pearl Harbor, and the killing of tens of thousands in the Global War on Terror in response to the deaths of 3,000 Americans in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a clear indication of our 'loss of a sense of proportion.' The implication, of course, is that we should have been much more restrained after being attacked by a ruthless enemy, in 1941 and again in 2001. "

Britain Under Siege by Vasko Kohlmayer

"Although last week’s terrorist attacks in Britain were shocking in their murderous intent, they were not at all unexpected. They are merely the latest in a long series of attempts – successful, foiled and failed – in what is in effect a war waged from within Britain’s Muslim community against the host country.

Even a cursory recounting of recent terrorist activity makes it immediately evident that Britain is a country under attack:

On June 30, two Muslim men drove an explosive-laden car into the main terminal building at Glasgow airport. Most of the explosives failed to detonate."

Eleven lessons learned about blogging, so far By Marc Andreessen.

This post is to share lessons I have learned about blogging so far, five weeks into this blog.

First, it's hard to believe it's only been five weeks. "Internet time" lives, I can tell you that.

Second, I'd like to truly thank everyone who has read this blog, linked to this blog, sent this blog to your friends, or come up to me at various parties and events to say that you've been reading it -- and also the people who have emailed me and especially the people who posted comments before I turned comments off!

It's a lot of fun to interact directly with a community of people who share my interests and passions, and I plan to continue for a long time.

Third, I should have started doing this years and years ago.

Anyone who says blogs are not widely read is incorrect. I have been absolutely amazed at the range and diversity of the people who have been reading this blog, and so quickly.

It is crystal clear to me now that at least in industries where lots of people are online, blogging is the single best way to communicate and interact.

I missed this early on, but I certainly get it now.

He told me that government should provide "food care" as well as health care and that big government would work if only the right people were in charge.

Moore added, "I watch your show and I know where you are coming from. ... "

He knows I defend limited government, so he tried to explain why I was wrong. He began in a revealing way:

"I gotta believe that, even though I know you're very much for the individual determining his own destiny, you also have a heart."

The Senate: Chamber of Shame By Tony Blankley

The Senate is emitting an embarrassing level of emotional policy twitching on the topic of Iraq. Sen. Harry Reid can't take the war anymore. He "knows" it is lost. Sen. Olympia Snowe has just about had it with the Iraqi government. If they don't meet her benchmarks -- that's it. Sen. Mitch McConnell thinks "that the handwriting is on the wall that we are going in a different direction in the fall, and I expect the president to lead it." Who authored that wall graffiti, he doesn't say. After talking with grieving family members of one of our fallen warriors, Sen. Pete Domenici "wants a new strategy for Iraq."

I haven't seen such uncritical thinking since I hid under my bedsheets to get away from the monsters back when I was 3 years old.

WatchBlog :: Al Gore: Pope of the New Religion

"The environmental movement is coming to resemble the pre-reformation church. People fall back on familiar patterns when seeking metaphysical truth. Various types of new age philosophies have filled a void for many believers in search of a creed. Their loss of belief in God does not mean they believe in nothing; it means they fall for anything. Let’s consider the parallels between the church of Leo X and Al Gore’s church of environmentalism.

Just as the medieval Church sometimes had little to do with religion and not much to do with God, the environmental movement is sometimes less about nature than about manipulating human society.

For the medieval Church (MC), original sin. affected everybody, just for being the descendents of Adam, so nobody was free of sin. In addition, most people committed their share of sins on earth. In the environmental Church (EC) original sin is carbon. No human can live w/o producing CO2, so we all are sinners. It is our original sin - and then most of us commit some of our own. "

US Govt Concern About Potential Al Qaeda Attack on US Homeland This Summer By Jeffrey Imm

Both ABC News and the Associated Press are reporting new U.S. government concerns of an attack on the U.S. homeland this summer, and in the case of ABC News, reports of an Al Qaeda cell intending to attack a government facility or facilities.

ABC News reports that "new intelligence suggests a small al Qaeda cell is on its way to the United States, or may already be here. The White House has convened an urgent multi-agency meeting for Thursday afternoon to deal with the new threat." The meeting will address ways to minimize or counter the threat, and steps to harden and protect government facilities.

ABC reports that from former FBI agent Brad Garrett that 'It suggests they have information that the cell or cells coming this direction want to attack a government facility'.

ABC also reports that "Law enforcement officials say the recent failed attacks in London have provided important new clues about possible tactics. And officials say the London attackers use of the Internet left important clues that are being used to decode other e-mails that had initially been deemed unimportant but are now taking on new significance. A senior administration official said the level of concern of a new terror attack is now higher than it has been in some time".

Ever since 9/11 I’ve detected an increase in anxiety among Jewish friends and neighbours in my part of North London. As I’ve always argued: just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you. When I went to address a ladies’ charity lunch at a synagogue in Finchley, I was astonished at the level of security. You don’t expect to see bouncers in black bomber jackets on the door at a place of worship.

I hope you get as incensed as I was by the story in Salisbury (N.C.) Post Editor Elizabeth Cook’s column on Sunday:

“Shame on you, Gary Jarmin and every other activist who scares senior citizens with tales of losing their Social Security.

Granted, this nation faces challenges, and Social Security is one of them. But squeezing an ‘emergency contribution’ of $15 out of people who can hardly buy groceries is exploiting the very people operators like Jarmin claim to be helping.

A Triumph for Traditionalists by Patrick J. Buchanan

"Elevated to the papacy at 78, Benedict XVI will take no action greater in significance for the Catholic Church than his motu proprio declaring that the Latin Mass must be said in every diocese -- on the request of the faithful. Dissenting bishops must comply.

'What earlier generations held as sacred remains sacred and great for us, too,' said the Holy Father in his apostolic letter, as he authorized the universal use of the sole official version of the mass allowed in the four centuries between the Council of Trent and Vatican II.

To which many Catholics will respond: 'Alleluia! Alleluia!'

And so the pope has come full circle. At Vatican II, the future Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, head of the Holy Office for the Defense of the Faith under John Paul II, went about in coat and tie and was seen as a radical reformer and modernist theologian in the mold of his friend Hans Kung."

The Need For More Objective Media about Latin American Politics by Paul M. Weyrich

"Latin America is well-known for its volatile political history of caudillos, corruption, economic instability and popular uprisings. Since the late 1990s some stability has descended on the region but the authoritarian tendency has never disappeared entirely. Fidel Castro, the most notorious authoritarian in the region, has maintained firm control of the Cuban populace for the last forty-eight years.

Now many men who apparently wish to follow Castro’s example are coming (or returning) to power, including Evo Morales in Bolivia, Tabaré Vázquez in Uruguay, Rafael Correa in Ecuador, the former Sandinista Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua and Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. Because of Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, Chavez has become particularly prominent and powerful in the region. He has made no secret of his contempt for the United States and the free market or of his admiration for Castro. One of his stated goals is to bring “21st Century Socialism” to Venezuela, and to do so he has nationalized many of the private companies within the country."

'Time running out for Iran strike' By YAAKOV KATZ

Predicting that sanctions will ultimately fail to stop Teheran's nuclear program, Brig.-Gen. (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser, former head of Military Intelligence's Research Division, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that time to launch an effective military strike against Iran's nuclear installations was running out.

According to Kuperwasser, who stepped down from his post last year, Iran is "very close" to the point that it will cross the technological threshold and have the capability to enrich uranium at an industrial level. Once they master the technology, the Iranians will have the ability to manufacture a nuclear device within two to three years, he added.

The War About the War By Herbert Meyer

"The 9-11 attacks did more than start a war; they started a war about the war. No sooner had the World Trade towers collapsed and the Pentagon burst into flames than two perceptions of the threat began competing for the public's support:

Perception One: We're at War

For the third time in history Islam - or, more precisely, its most radical element - has launched a war whose objective is the destruction of Western civilization. Our survival is at stake, and despite its imperfections we believe that Western civilization is worth defending to the death. Moreover, in the modern world - where a small number of people can so easily kill a large number of people - we cannot just play defense; sooner or later that strategy would bring another 9-11. This conflict really is a clash of civilizations whose root cause is Islam's incompatibility with the modern world. So we must fight with everything we've got against the terrorist groups and against those governments on whose support they rely. If the Cold War was 'World War III,' this is World War IV. We must win it, at whatever cost."

Londonistan, Our Looking Glass By Marie Jon'

It is about time we call the rose by its rightful name when discussing the War against Terror. The problem the free world faces is that it is erroneously preoccupied with a belief system that has us fighting other faiths from its own perspective. Radical Islamists do not want to get along with or respect other's choices in religion. It is time to stop pretending. We are fighting religious zealots of the Islamic faith.
Terrorism is not spawned from Christianity or Judaism. There is no upheaval emulating from Baptists, Lutherans, Seventh Day Adventists, Pentecostals, Mormons, Catholics, Church of Christ, Presbyterians, or Orthodox, Conservative or Reform Judaism. None are calling for a worldwide jihad. Christianity and Judaism are religions of life. They embrace the Lord's Ten Commandments while living their lives in peace and uplifting God Almighty.
A recent Pew Research Institute Poll revealed a shocking find amongst young American Muslims. Pew reported that there is a substantial number of them who could cause chaos in our own country because of their religious beliefs.

"Funny how small 26 percent sounds when it describes, for example, the number of American voters who support the Senate's mass-amnesty, goody-bag bill for illegal aliens. In this case, the one in four people polled by Rasmussen this week who hope the legislation passes comes off as a minority voice, especially when compared to the whopping 72 percent of voters who favor border enforcement and the reduction of illegal immigration.
"But 26 percent looms large when it describes the number of American Muslims, ages 18-29, who support suicide bombings 'in defense of Islam' — one of the sensational, if sensationally underreported, findings of a recent Pew poll. According to Pew, the total Muslim population in America is 2.35 million, 30 percent of whom are between 18 and 29. By my figuring, the suicide-bomb-approving cohort works out to 183,000 people.
"The poll also tells us that 69 percent of younger American Muslims say suicide bombings are never justified. While representing a majority almost as great as the percentage of American voters who favor border enforcement, 69 percent in this particular case is wholly inadequate; indeed, a strikingly poor showing. Why? America must not ignore a dangerous percentage."
    — Columnist Diana West Link

New mosques are being built all over the USA. Where is the money to build such lavish places of worship coming from? To this day, the official "constitution" of Saudi Arabia remains the Koran. Eighty percent of the mosques built in the United States within the last 20 years have been founded by them.
There are reports that many of these impressive mosques carry reading materials in their bookstores that come from countries that, like Saudi Arabia, embrace Wahhabism. Books and tapes are sold to encourage moderate Muslims to become radicalized and join the jihad movement.
It stands to reason that our government best start questioning what is going on within Islam in this country. Our nation can't afford to take in people who want to practice Sharia law here in the USA. That kind of practice undermines our country's constitution (freedom from religion as well as freedom to practice religion), our culture, society and safety. American citizens do not want to be forced to become Muslims or any other religion. When faced with a crisis of the "religious freedom" of those who would practice Sharia law here, clearly we're going to have to make exceptions. We can't stand on legalism and let them light the bonfires of our destruction with our own Constitution.
The United Kingdom has long accepted massive numbers émigrés to their nation. In return for the generosity afforded them, too many are biting the hands that welcomed them into their beautiful country to live work and raise their families. Extremist Muslim beliefs within the U. K. are on the verge of causing anarchic uprising. It appears that radical Islam has spread its tentacles into the United Kingdom's heath care system. A number of doctors who should uphold the Hippocratic Oath have been unmasked as Judaists.
Excerpts from the Associated Press:
"Report: At Least One of British Terror Suspects Linked to Al Qaeda in Iraq
"At least one of the suspects being quizzed over the alleged plot to set off car bombs in Britain was in recent contact with Al Qaeda in Iraq, senior security officials said yesterday.
"Scotland Yard's Counter Terrorism Command SO15 apparently has uncovered evidence that, in the months leading up to the attacks, one or more of the suspects communicated by telephone or e-mail with terrorist leaders in Iraq.
Click here to read the full Sunday Times report.
"The development has fueled a theory that the failed attacks in London and Glasgow were designed as a farewell to Tony Blair to punish him for his role in Iraq. Details of the Al Qaeda role in the three failed car bombings are expected to emerge over the next few days.
"The development suggests that intelligence received by MI5 earlier this year about a possible Al-Qaeda attack to mark Blair's departure was accurate. A report in April by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) warned that a senior Iraqi Al Qaeda commander had outlined details of a big attack on Britain." Full Article
It is time that America learn a lesson from the example of the U. K., secure its borders and become much more selective on who we allow to into our country. We do not want to invite criminals, health risks and religious zealots that have a natural propensity for becoming thorns in our flesh.
The United Kingdom is our looking glass for things to come if we do not make the correct decisions. Because of terrorism, we must become much more discriminating and cautious.
The Statue of Liberty stands in the New York Harbor. It is an inspiration to millions of immigrants because it represents a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. Let us choose those who want to become Americans, not turn America into another Londonistan.
The American response to terrorism is being fought in many ways. Today we hear words such as "vigilant." Report anything or anyone who might be acting suspicious. Show your courage and strength as Americans. Continue making a personal contribution in the quest to maintain our freedom by looking after one another.
Many Democrats don't even believe the War against Terror exists. They want us to pull out of Iraq — yesterday. They call terrorism a "Bumper Sticker Slogan." You know who not to vote for in 2008 if you love life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
