Obama and Gingrich Both Suffer From MPD :: Conservatism With Heart

I talked at length yesterday on the radio show about how it appears that Obama and Gingrich both seem to have MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder).

"I mean, in one week he went from saying he's going to sit down, you know, for tea, with our enemies, but then he's going to bomb our allies," said Romney. "I mean, he's gone from Jane Fonda to Dr. Strangelove in one week."--Mitt Romney

OBAMA
As most of you know I'm not that big a fan of Romney but he hit the ball out of the ball park with the above quote. Last week Obama announces that even though he thinks we should appease Al Qaeda in Iraq by cutting and running he would like to attack a country we still consider to be our ally. Huh?
Pakistan definitely has problems right now with Al Qaeda that must be dealt with but his comments are just illogical and irresponsible. Here is just a sample of Pakistan's response to his comments. Musharraf has a big problem on his hands and yet in being an ally of the U.S. he has had to withstand a lot of criticism and has dodged assassination attempts.

Just Say No To Socialized Biggest Health Care Moment in 40 years By Marie Jon'

In today's world perception is everything. Why would that old adage not apply to one seeking the Oval Office?

Whether you like his politics or not, President Bush works out daily to stay in good health. He is fit and trim and robust at the age of sixty-one. A healthy body is an adjunct to a healthy, clear mind. We know where Bush stands on Iraq. He is committed to win the war. Many are beginning to think he just might be able to do it. All good Americans want us to succeed in winning the peace for a fledgling democracy. If you doubt what is being accomplished in Iraq, you'll need to read "A War We Just Might Win" written by Michael E. O'Hanlon and Kenneth M. Pollack, published: July 30, 2007 in The New York Times.

Robin Givhan, a fashion editor for The Washington Post, wrote an op-ed on Senator Hillary Clinton's revealing neckline displayed during a July 18 speech on the Senate floor. Givhans is a 2006 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. She has critiqued the fashion statements of the likes of Condoleezza Rice and Dick Cheney.

"Commanding Clothes" was an extremely well written opinion piece referencing Dr. Rice's wardrobe. "Dressing Down," on Dick Cheney, was right on target. Givhan takes no political sides. Cheney was dressed inappropriately while attending the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In her op-ed, Givhan gives Vice president Cheney very bad marks for looking tacky. He wore a knit ski cap. She rightfully criticized him for not wearing a Fedora or a fur hat. ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51640-2005Feb24.html ) ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51640-2005Feb24.html )

Does it matter if a presidential candidate wears a shell top with a pantsuit, designed not to show cleavage, but does nonetheless? Probably not. Perhaps the reason for the numerous articles on her appearance is that the liberal media wants to cast Hillary as a more sensual woman. As her husband would say, "You don't want to go there." Hillary Clinton is a very attractive woman.

During the holiday season we all take in too many calories. We can all sympathize with people who have a weight problem that's for sure. It is obvious that Hillary needs to exercise more and reduce the amount of calories she consumes. It is incorrect to blame it on aging or metabolism. Condoleezza Rice has a gorgeous figure, and she is over fifty years old.

For a moment, let's forget about all the fuss being made of Clinton's cleavage showing in a poorly chosen ensemble. Look at her pear shape, heart-attack just waiting to happen physique. A gathering of weight in the body's lower sections is a medical danger sign for both men and women. http://www.ehealthmd.com/library/lowercholesterol/LC_weight.html)

Too many Americans (two out of every three, including our children) are overweight or morbidly obese. One out of every eight deaths is caused by an illness directly related to overweight and obesity. Researchers say obesity costs in the U.S. totaled up to $92.6 billion in 2002. Weight problems are costing our health care system a fortune as people develop such behavioral problems as depression. That's the latest medical semantic dodge. http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20030515/obesity-costs-rival-smoking )

With the possible exception of the buff and chiseled Mitt Romney, no Republican presidential candidate has discussed changing our heath care system. However, Mrs. Clinton wants a universal health care coverage, cradle to grave. She just might get her wish, too, if you decide to vote that extremely "liberal" Democrat ticket in 2008.

Eating healthfully and exercising regularly can sharply lower your risk of death from cardiovascular disease — the leading cause of death in the United States. That's the extraordinary good news emanating from the Harvard School of Public Health's Department of Nutrition. Good habits are a necessity in lowering the factors for chronic diseases in women.

One would think that Senator Hillary could present herself as a good example. She keeps reminding us that "It takes a village" to better America. She might at least have gotten herself in top physical shape prior to aiming for the highest office in the land — you know, slim and trim?

In addition to the harmful incremental social reforms, Democrats such as Hillary Clinton want to transform our country's health care system into something resembling Canada's or the failing European model. Big government is no more the way to go when it comes to health care than anything else. Governmental health programs do not provide excellence to their patients.

Excerpts from The Wall Street Journal:

"Hillary Care in Tennessee
The disaster that might have been for the entire country"

"We think it was Justice Brandeis who said the states should be laboratories for reform. Regarding health care, Tennessee tried a decade ago and the price is now coming due. Hillary Rodham Clinton should call her pollster if she plans on carrying the state in 2008.

"In 1994, Tennessee passed what was then a very hot New Democrat idea — call it government managed care — a version of the reform the former first lady was also pitching nationwide. TennCare promised the impossible dream of politicians everywhere: Lower health-care costs while covering more of the "uninsured." They got the impossible, all right. After 10 years of mismanagement and lawsuits, TennCare now eats up one-third of the state's entire budget and is growing fast. Governor Phil Bredesen, a Democrat, is preparing to pull the plug and return the state to the less lunatic subsidies of Medicaid.

"The TennCare concept was for the state to operate like an HMO, providing health insurance to those who needed it and paying the premiums for those who couldn't afford it. The idea was even sold as a cost savings because it would provide "managed care" (volume discounts, preventative care, etc.). TennCare opened enrollment to hundreds of thousands of people who did not qualify for Medicaid, even to some six-figure earners. Costs quickly exploded, and despite attempts to tighten eligibility rules the program still covers 1.3 million of the state's 5.8 million people." http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110005987 ) Full Article

If Americans would seriously look at the countries where socialized medicine is practiced, they would flee in terror from this ridiculous "Nanny Care" notion. It does not work.

"Consider the recent British controversy over a cancer patient who tried to get an appointment with a specialist, only to have it canceled — 48 times. More than 1 million Britons must wait for some type of care, with 200,000 in line for longer than six months. In France, the supply of doctors is so limited that during an August 2003 heat wave — when many doctors were on vacation and hospitals were stretched beyond capacity — 15,000 elderly citizens died. Across Europe, state-of-the-art drugs aren't available." ( http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?secid=1502&status=article&id=270338135202343 )

— Dr. David Gratzer, a physician, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

What does work is personal responsibility. Taking good care of what has been given to you from birth is good common sense. Too many people decry their poor health. Facts show that most of what we become in later years stems from poor judgment in our younger years. Keeping our bodies in shape and eating correctly are the keys to a full and healthy life in our golden years.

"Obesity and overweight"

"Facts

Globally, there are more than 1 billion overweight adults, at least 300 million of them obese.

Obesity and overweight pose a major risk for chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, and certain forms of cancer.

The key causes are increased consumption of energy-dense foods high in saturated fats and sugars, and reduced physical activity.

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally, with more than 1 billion adults overweight — at least 300 million of them clinically obese — and is a major contributor to the global burden of chronic disease and disability. Often coexisting in developing countries with under-nutrition, obesity is a complex condition, with serious social and psychological dimensions, affecting virtually all ages and socioeconomic groups." http://www.who.int/dietphysicalactivity/publications/facts/obesity/en/ )

— World Health Organization

While much was made about Senator Hillary Clinton's exposed cleavage, I'd be more concerned about what she has in mind regarding her socialistic heath care agenda, which will be a living nightmare for average Americans. Health matters as much as facts and statistics. Indeed, just say no to socialized Hillary Care. Ask the good senator to take off the unwarranted pounds, for the sake of all MoveOn.org and Daily Kos feminists.

When Hidden Experts Are Found :: Confederate Yankee

Exactly one week ago today on August 2nd, the editors of the magazine The New Republic posted A Statement on Scott Thomas Beauchamp, in which they claimed:

All of Beauchamp's essays were fact-checked before publication. We checked the plausibility of details with experts, contacted a corroborating witness, and pressed the author for further details. But publishing a first-person essay from a war zone requires a measure of faith in the writer. Given what we knew of Beauchamp, personally and professionally, we credited his report. After questions were raised about the veracity of his essay, TNR extensively re-reported Beauchamp's account.

In this process, TNR contacted dozens of people. Editors and staffers spoke numerous times with Beauchamp. We also spoke with current and former soldiers, forensic experts, and other journalists who have covered the war extensively. And we sought assistance from Army Public Affairs officers. Most important, we spoke with five other members of Beauchamp's company, and all corroborated Beauchamp's anecdotes, which they witnessed or, in the case of one solider, heard about contemporaneously. (All of the soldiers we interviewed who had first-hand knowledge of the episodes requested anonymity.)

What is most interesting about the The New Republic's statement is that while they state they spoke to "dozens of people" in fact-checking their stories, they refused to cite the names of their experts, or explain their qualifications—those qualities that make them experts.

Cpl. Sean Stokes: Your Point Man by Michelle Oddis

I received an anonymous email last week. The email referred to a November 2006 HUMAN EVENTS article titled “Remember the Heroes of Fallujah” by James C. Roberts. The story was written to commemorate the two year anniversary of Operation Phantom Fury, an iconic mission in which select Marine and Army battalions surrounded and entered the city of Fallujah to sweep out jihadists.

“Fallujah had become a magnet for foreign jihadists and there were several thousand in the city who had come to make martyrs of themselves, to die while killing as many Americans as possible” Roberts wrote.

Roberts interviewed the heroes who fought in Operation Phantom Fury, telling their incredible stories of valor in combat. One of the Marines he’d interviewed was Cpl. Sean Stokes. The anonymous email said, “Thought you should know that Sean Stokes was killed in Iraq, Monday the 30th of July 2007.”

"Innocent" at Haditha By Ben Johnson

IT’S BEEN MORE THAN A YEAR SINCE JOHN MURTHA charged that U.S. Marines “killed innocent civilians in cold blood” in Haditha. Yesterday, a military commander lifted Murtha’s preemptive conviction.

Last May, John Murtha held a press conference accusing our soldiers of slaughtering 24 Iraqis – including women and children – in the town of Haditha in late November 2005. He guaranteed an investigation would determine “[o]ur troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” His words ricocheted around the Arab world, as Al Jazeera dutifully quoted him. This “pressure,” Murtha said, could be ended by bringing troops home. The government eventually charged four men with “unpremeditated murder.”

CAIR-Tampa’s Terror Defense Network and the Media By Joe Kaufman

When two Tampa-area students were arrested near a South Carolina Naval base and charged with possession of explosive devices, a prominent Muslim leader in Southwest Florida rushed to their defense. The organization that he came from – the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – has been cited many times for its terrorist ties, even having been named as a co-conspirator in a terror trial. Nevertheless, in the eyes of the media, Bedier represents a credible source. One has to wonder, though, how long, after incidents such as these, that this farce will be able to sustain itself?

Why We Must Label Al-Qaeda Terrorism "Jihad Martyrdom" By Robert Spencer

During the question period after my notorious YAF talk last Thursday, it came up again: one of the students asked if we weren't conferring legitimacy on Osama and Co. by calling them jihadists instead of something like mufsidoon: evildoers. That is just one small indication of how influential this idea has become -- and of course it enjoys great influence in the State Department.

Now one of its foremost proponents, a man named Jim Guirard, who called me up a few years ago and spent a great length of time trying to convince me to get on board with this idea, writes in its defense in Accuracy In Media. He's responding to this excellent column by Walid Phares, about which I commented at some length here.

Intimidation Campaign By Kenneth R. Timmerman

What could the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) possibly have in common?

CAIR founders had close ties to Hamas, Palestinian Sunni Islamic extremists. NIAC and its main spokesman, Trita Parsi, have become apologists for the regime in Tehran, which exports a rival Shiite brand of Islamic extremism.

Sunnis and Shias. We all know the story. They hate each other worse than Irish Catholics and Irish Protestants. Right?

Well, no. As I pointed out in Countdown to Crisis: the Coming Nuclear Showdown with Iran, Sunnis and Shias get along just fine when it comes to killing Americans and killing Jews.

Similarly, CAIR and NIAC get along just fine when it comes to opposing the Bush administration policies in Iraq, Iran, and the greater Middle East.

But they share much more than just an ideological affinity. They also share publicists in the redoubtable David Fenton.

Savage attacked by officials pushing immigrant bailout :: WorldNetDaily

San Francisco city officials are trying to force taxpayers to pay for immigrants' green cards and citizenship – and to bolster their case for the new tax, they've introduced a resolution condemning national radio talk-show host Michael Savage for what they call his "defamatory language ... against immigrants."

Supervisor Chris Daly, reacting to the new and significantly higher federal fee structure for immigrants seeking citizenship, imposed last week by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, complained that the fee hikes raise concerns that immigrants "cannot obtain safe pathways to legal immigrant status and citizenship" and "further exacerbates pressures on families, increasing stress," according to the San Francisco Examiner.

How guns make good criminals bad :: Classical Values

Today's Philadelphia Inquirer has a front page story about a Chinese store owner who was murdered by neighborhood kids.

While this was an otherwise well-researched story, for some reason the Inquirer left Commissioner Sylvester Johnson out, despite the fact that he appears to have been directly in charge the whole time at the crime scene. I say "well researched" because the Inquirer wouldn't let the perfectly competent Joseph Gambardello write the story alone. Instead, they have added two co-authors, including the Inquirer's visiting Chinese intern Lou Yi whose reportorial expertise seems to be invoked when reports touch on Asian cultural issues.

I'll return to the Inquirer, but I noticed that a Fox News story does quote Philadelphia's Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson, who once again seems to think the issue involves guns:

"It's another example of guns and the person who doesn't want to go out there and work for his money, thinks the way to get it is to rob somebody," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson.

The owner was shot in the chest. His wife and daughter were there when it happened and were able to identify the gunman.

"This male had robbed them previously about a year ago," said Commissioner Johnson.

The Political Teachings of Jesus By Tod Lindberg

The Sermon on the Mount has long been rightly understood as both a starting-point and a summation of Jesus 's teaching. It begins with the Beatitudes (Mt. 5:3-12), in which Jesus delineates the categories of people he says enjoy special favor. The Beatitudes are all familiar to us as sayings, the best known being blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. But what, really, are they? Is Jesus merely pronouncing a blessing, offering good wishes to those whom he chooses to single out? In fact, there 's more to the story than that.

The Beatitudes provide a dizzying commentary designed to turn upside down the political and social world of the Roman Empire of Caesar Augustus and of the Jewish religious elite of Judea and Jerusalem. This is the opening move of a more drastic and fundamental reassessment of political and social affairs, applying not only to its own time but to all future times, down to our day. More still: It points to the increasing fulfillment in this world of the promise of the human condition as such -- and of the struggle against vast and daunting but not insurmountable obstacles that such fulfillment will require.

Healthy Americans Mean A Healthy America By Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee

We do not have a health care crisis in this country - we have a health crisis with a health care system incapable of dealing with it.

Consider the fact that 75% of the $2 trillion we spend on health care goes toward treating the symptoms of chronic disease, and not toward preventing disease in the first place. Imagine if we were to reverse that model by focusing on prevention, wellness, and early testing, all of which are undervalued and poorly supported today. We would save countless lives, pain and suffering by the victims of chronic conditions, and billions of dollars. Realizing this potential will not be easy. It will require a fundamental transformation of a health care system focused on acute care into one focused upon maximizing individual health as our first priority.

Romney And Immigration Reform: What The Record Says By Randall Burns

Mitt Romney is the Establishment candidate with the best chance of getting the GOP nomination who has also been most favorable to patriotic immigration reform.

According to the  market  at Intrade.com, that chance was between 21.0% and 21.09% as of August 9, 2007, as opposed to a probability of 35.0% to 35.4% for Rudy Giuliani and 27.5% to 29.8%  for Fred Thompson (if he declares).

(Gratifyingly, the immigration issue has imploded John McCain's candidacy: he’s at 6 %.)

I was recently reading about Romney’s net worth of between $190 million and $250 million. I wondered how he used this wealth politically.

Misreading Christopher Hitchens By James Kirchick

Say what you will about Christopher Hitchens—his views on Israel, most exhaustively rendered in a book he co-authored with the late Edward Said, leave much to be desired—but he is the most eloquent and passionate opponent of Islamic jihadism writing today. He is also a passionate critic of all forms of religious hucksterism, and offers the most concise and devastating rebuke of Al Sharpton in the current issue of Vanity Fair: “A man who proves every day that you can get away with anything in this country if you shove the word ‘Reverend’ in front of your name.”

Anyone who writes honestly and bluntly about Islam inevitably is labeled a “racist,” an appalling misunderstanding of the word, since it can be applied only to those who abjure someone for the pigmentation of their skin, not their belief system. In a diatribe on the popular and engaging blog associated with the online magazine Jewcy, Richard Silverstein, a contributor to Tikkun magazine*, furthers the misunderstanding. After the obligatory tributes to Hitchens’s “high-toned English accent” and “mellifluous” voice (which apparently trick all those gullible fools not as smart as Silverstein), he takes issue with Hitchens’s contention that, “Islam, by the way, does not mean ‘peace.’ It means ’surrender,’ ‘prostration.’”

But much of the reaction, though well-intentioned, misses the point. Behind Newark’s persistent violence and deep social dysfunction is a profound cultural shift that has left many of the city’s children growing up outside the two-parent family—and in particular, growing up without fathers. Decades of research tell us that such children are far likelier to fail in school and work and to fall into violence than those raised in two-parent families. In Newark, we are seeing what happens to a community when the traditional family comes close to disappearing.

The Collectivist Left vs. The Individualist Right By Doug Hagin

There are several significant differences between the ideological Right and Left. We all know this. Abortion, taxation, the size of government, national defense, gun control, etc are all issues that divide the two ideologies. We all are well aware of these specific issues and the way the two sides generally view them. What is interesting, to me anyway, is why the two sides differ on these and other issues. I have come to believe there is a common theme that divides the two ideologies.

While the specific issues already cited separate the two sides, there is one major difference that coves all these issues. The difference is in the thinking of the two sides. What they think, is best explained in how they think. In short, the Left thinks collectively, while the right thinks individually.

The Left talks about charity and giving for example. They talk about it constantly. They talk about it so much you might think they invented charitable giving. Their talk, though, and their walk, are quite different. Several studies of charitable giving have shown that those on the right give significantly more than those on the Left. Studies also have shown that those Americans in red states, states that tend to vote Republican, are more giving than those in the blue states. How can this be? Perhaps it is best explained by how each side sees charity and generosity.

Blogger Finds Y2K Bug in NASA Climate Data By Michael Asher

An example of the Y2K discontinuity in action  (Source: NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies)

Years of bad data corrected; 1998 no longer the warmest year on record

My earlier column this week detailed the work of a volunteer team to assess problems with US temperature data used for climate modeling. One of these people is Steve McIntyre, who operates the site climateaudit.org. While inspecting historical temperature graphs, he noticed a strange discontinuity, or "jump" in many locations, all occurring around the time of January, 2000.
These graphs were created by NASA's Reto Ruedy and James Hansen (who shot to fame when he accused the administration of trying to censor his views on climate change). Hansen refused to provide McKintyre with the algorithm used to generate graph data, so McKintyre reverse-engineered it. The result appeared to be a Y2K bug in the handling of the raw data.

NASA revises recent U.S. temperatures downward after Y2K bug fix :: by Allahpundit

Via Ace and Tigerhawk, we’re all probably better off if I don’t try to summarize it for you and you simply read this amazing post instead. Carefully, please. Including/especially the updates, noting in particular the conclusion of Update #3. Then read this post and see what sort of effort had to be made to expose the flaw here, notwithstanding — or rather, because of — the enormous political and financial investment that’s been staked on these numbers. I’d have noted the staggering irony of the role James Hansen is alleged to have played in it but Ace beat me to it so all credit to him. Remarkable, isn’t it, how we’re assured that this is the most important scientific issue of our time and yet one of the basic calculations from which the evidence is derived has to be reverse engineered from the data in order to check it. Can we at least get some peer review before we build the ark?

Appearance is Everything By Jonathan Spyer

US Secretary of State Condolleeza Rice has now completed her four day trip to the Middle East. Dr. Rice was evidently well-pleased at what she found, describing herself as "impressed by the seriousness of (Olmert and Abbas) to really advance this two state solution." A number of commentators have remarked on the similarity between the current moment and the days of the Oslo peace process. A notable difference, however, is that during Oslo one had the sense that the protagonists, or at least some of them, really believed they were on the way to making peace in the Middle East. This time around, the whole thing has a strained, slightly unreal sense to it. What lies behind this?

THE GREAT HEALTHCARE ROBBERY By: Daniel Sargis

Nobody enjoys a good “Quagmire” more than a Democrat.

Show any Democrat a “Failed Policy” and their first instinct is to screw the American taxpayer and expand it. And when that fails...expand it again and screw the taxpayer even more.

After FDR rammed basic Social Security down the nation’s throat, it was only matter of time until Truman proposed national healthcare in 1945.

After decades of heated debate and opposition, on July 30, 1965 Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law by Lyndon Johnson as part of his "Great Society" debacle...as additions to the already failing (maybe I meant pilfered) Social Security program (Titles XVIII & XIX).

Notice that when the country refused to support national healthcare under the Truman administration, the Democrats just invented creeping national healthcare by slipping these two titles into the already existing Social Security Act.

State of War by Forkum

07.08.09.StateofWar-X.gif

From The New York Times: U.S. says Iran-supplied bomb is killing more troops in Iraq.

Attacks on U.S.-led forces using a lethal type of roadside bomb said to be supplied by Iran reached a new high in July, according to the U.S. military.

The devices, known as explosively formed penetrators, were used to carry out 99 attacks last month and accounted for a third of the combat deaths suffered by U.S.-led forces, Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno, the No. 2 commander in Iraq, said in an interview.

Such bombs, which fire a semi-molten copper slug that can penetrate the armor on a Humvee and are among the deadliest weapons used against U.S. forces, are used almost exclusively by Shiite militants. U.S. intelligence officials have presented evidence that the weapons come from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, although Iran has repeatedly denied providing lethal assistance to Iraqi groups.

Dawood Ibrahim in the Dock? By Aaron Mannes

The always turning rumor mill on the Indian-subcontinent is rotating at top speed with tales of the arrest of Dawood Ibrahim and his top deputies Tiger Memon and Chota Shakeel, all presumably residing in Pakistan and wanted by India for their involvement in the 1993 Black Friday bombings in Mumbai which killed 257 people.

A screenwriter would be challenged to develop a character like Dawood Ibrahim – crime lord, terrorist, spy, and high society figure. For a full profile, see this article by friend of the CT Blog David Kaplan.

Ibrahim was the head of D Company, the top mafia in Mumbai. As everywhere else in the world, mafias frequently have ethnic orientations and Ibrahim became a folk hero to Mumbai’s Muslims. With his immense wealth he bought his way into Bollywood, financing top films.

Barack Obama Is Out to Clean Up By Michael M. Bates

Barack Obama says he wants to clean government up. At first blush, you might not think a Chicago machine politician and chum of indicted Democratic fundraiser/slumlord/fixer Tony Rezko would be the ideal guy for that assignment. Still, Barack’s not blushing; he claims he’s serious.

He gets that earnest and really, really serious look (easily mistaken for constipation) on his face and you know that Mr. Ethics is about to speak with authority, even gravitas, as they say in the mainstream media. The Chicago Tribune reported that last month in Iowa he lectured:

“The reason that we’re not getting things done is not because we don’t have good plans or good policy prescriptions. The reason is because it’s not our agenda that's being moved forward in Washington--it’s the agenda of the oil companies, the insurance companies, the drug companies, the special interests who dominate on a day-to-day basis in terms of legislative activity.”

The CIA's tough interrogation of terrorist prisoners like 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has helped foil at least 10 serious al-Qaida plots, three of them on U.S. soil, according to President Bush.

But far from being grateful to those in government who have saved perhaps thousands of innocent American lives, Democrats in Congress are acting like al-Qaida stooges:

Derbism Unveiled by Lawrence Auster

Your comments about New English Review led me to look at the website for the first time in many months. I once hit that site regularly, but quit when I decided it was a waste of time trying to make any sense out of it. Anyway, visiting NER, I read John Derbyshire's most recent contribution, in which he espouses the theories of "Peak Oil," Global Warming, and Malthusian overpopulation, along with taking the usual shots at theists and those who believe that Islamism is a problem. This led me to recall our discussion of about a year ago, in which I predicted that, thanks to his embrace of radical Darwinism, Derbyshire might become a liberal. We both admitted this possibility, but many of your readers rose to Derbyshire's defense. Well, as of today, Derbyshire believes:

  • That Christianity is false;
  • That Darwinian selection can account for all human behavior;
  • That Islamism presents no real threat to Western Civilization,
  • and that those who believe that it does are guilty of "Islamophobia";
  • That we are running out of oil;
  • That we are not going to deport masses of illegal aliens,
  • so there is no point in discussing it as a policy option;
  • That human nature is not unchanging, and that we may be significantly different from people who lived in the past;

[…] China may be for the 21st century what Europe was during the 8th-11th centuries, and America has been during the past 200 years: the natural ground for mass evangelization. If this occurs, the world will change beyond our capacity to recognize it. Islam might defeat the western Europeans, simply by replacing their diminishing numbers with immigrants, but it will crumble beneath the challenge from the East.

It's a little harder to accept what happened in Ocean City, Maryland, where police have found the remains of four dead preborn children – all believed to have been aborted by the mother, Christy Freeman, 37. I guess I shouldn't call her a mother. Maybe "host" would be a more accurate term.

However, she is, technically speaking, a mother – at least biologically speaking – to four unfortunate offspring who live with her and her longtime "boyfriend," Raymond W. Godman Jr.

Guantanamo Study Flawed by Jennifer Rubin

Politicians, policy makers, military officials, independent analysts and pundits have debated endlessly whether to close the Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention facility and what legal rights and remedies should be provided to the detainees held there. At the outset, both sides in the debate agreed the detainees there were dangerous and properly classified as enemy combatants. That changed beginning in 2005 when the Department of Defense released unclassified studies of 517 records (one was a duplicate, bringing the correct figure to 516) from the Combatant Status Review Tribunals (CSRT).

Professor Mark Denbeaux of Seton Hall Law School and Joshua Denbeaux, of the Denbeaux & Denbeaux law firm, studied the materials and issued a series of reports, the first of which asserted that individuals were being held who were not a serious threat to our national security and had not conducted or supported hostile action against the United States. The Denbeaux Report was widely commented on and provided ammunition to those claiming Guantanamo should be shut down.

In their latest demonstration of how much they love the troops, liberals have produced yet another anti-war hoax.

The New Republic has been running "true war" stories from a brave, anonymous liberal penning dispatches from Iraq. The famed "Baghdad Diarist" described his comrades joyfully using Bradley fighting vehicles to crush stray dogs, mocking a female whose face had been blown off by an IED and defacing Iraqi corpses by wearing skull parts on their own heads.

Various conservatives began questioning the plausibility of the anonymous diarist's account – noting, for example, that Bradley vehicles don't "swerve," as the diarist claimed. The editor of the New Republic responded by attacking the skeptics' motives, complaining that some conservatives make "a living denying any bad news that emanates from Iraq."

CAIR vs. Robert Spencer By Jacob Laksin and Jamie Glazov

It is one of the oddities of American politics that the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) can describe itself as a "civil-liberties group" while crusading to crush the free-speech rights of its critics. But that's exactly what happened last week when CAIR deployed its legal arsenal in a bid to stop author Robert Spencer from speaking at a conference of the Young America's Foundation (YAF).

In a letter to YAF dispatched by its lawyer, former Democratic National Committee staff counsel Joseph E. Sandler, CAIR threatened to "pursue every appropriate legal remedy" if Spencer were not immediately silenced. In the event, the YAF honorably refused to yield. The moral of the story: If CAIR disagrees with what you have to say, it'll fight furiously to deny your right to say it. To heck with civil liberties.

OpinionJournal :: How the media promote false pessimism about the economy.

"Not that it needed any help, but the already energized debate about journalistic bias was electrified when Rupert Murdoch, owner of the 'fair and balanced' Fox News Channel, struck a deal to buy The Wall Street Journal.

I have no desire to take sides in this debate, or question anyone's integrity, but my role as a business economist gives me a unique view of this subject. I talk frequently with members of the print media, and I am a regular guest on business TV shows. Both venues stress debate and journalistic skepticism. In my view this tendency causes a great deal of confusion.

If one guest or expert is a 'bull,' then the other must be a 'bear,' to keep things fair. Or, if there is a single guest on air, the host often takes the other side of the issue in order to keep things balanced. Get some sparks between guests, a little argument here or there, and it's even better for the ratings. The bigger the audience, the better the show, that's the way the advertisers see it. It's basic supply and demand.

But this idea of presenting both sides of an issue, while entertaining, informative and seemingly balanced, may paradoxically create a warped perspective of the economy."

The Sickness That Is Wahhabi Islam By Adrian Morgan

"The kingdom of Saudi Arabia officially came into existence in 1932. The Al Saud clan, led by Abdul Aziz bin Saud (c. 1880 - 1953), had by this time gained total control of the region formerly known as Arabia. The process of forcing rival clans into submission began at the start of the 20th century. Aziz was supported by members of a movement called the Ikhwan, or Brotherhood. Aziz founded the Ikhwan from disparate Bedouin tribesmen in 1912. These religious fanatics shared the same brand of fundamentalist faith as Aziz, but they later objected to the clan leader's alliance with the British 'Christians.' Eventually, the relations between the Ikhwan and Aziz soured, and by 1930 the future monarch had annihilated them as a force. "

Only the Islamic terrorists and their followers in both Iraq and America can end the Global War on Terror by standing up to the Islamic killers blowing themselves up, as well as their mosques and their own people (and many Americans).

This kind of war was won a thousand years ago during the Crusades, when the world’s Christians (and Jews) stood up to the Islamic terrorists.

That was then, this is now.

After a few minutes of fidgeting, Stalin stood up and left the compartment. He returned after a while and said, “Problem is solved. Engineer has been shot.”

Still the train did not move. After a few more minutes, Khrushchev stood up and left the compartment. When he returned, he said, “Problem is solved. Engineer has been posthumously rehabilitated.”

And still the train did not move. Finally Brezhnev stood up, pulled down the window shade, and said, “Problem is solved. Train is moving.”

In the UK, as far as the spread of terrorist ideology through radical mosques is concerned, the train is moving."

The question is especially apposite, because we now know the consequences for every single European society which has admitted large numbers of Muslims: social alienation, religious antagonism and outright terrorism.

Congress Selects Back Door Program for Illegals By Sher Zieve

Did the outcry from We-the-People, with regards to the proposed amnesty for illegal immigrants, have any lasting effect on Congress? Well, according to Congressional Democrats—apparently not. And they have found and selected new back-door ways to push their illegal legislations through—again bypassing the American people. Last Thursday, a House of Representatives’ healthcare bill—SCHIP—that includes illegal immigrants’ children (“children” who are inanely defined by Congressional Reps as up to 25 years of age!) was defeated 215-213. A narrow margin but, nonetheless, a defeat of yet another attempted pro-illegals bill. But—congressional Democrats didn’t like this vote. So, instead of accepting this decision, Democrat Congressional leaders kept the vote improperly in play until they had arm-twisted and coerced enough of their colleagues to secure the vote they wanted. And secure it they did. Unethical and unconscionable? You bet. Unexpected? Not from this Congress; a Congress that now sports only a 3% approval rating from the public.

What the terrorist surveillance fight is really all about. :: Opinion Journal

To hear the critics tell it, the warrantless wiretapping law passed by Congress this weekend is an immoral license for a mad President Bush and his spymasters to eavesdrop on all Americans. For those willing to believe such things, mere facts don't matter. But for anyone still amenable to reason, the deal is worth parsing for its national security precedents, good and bad. The next Democratic President might be grateful.

The good news is that the new law will at least allow the National Security Agency to monitor terrorist communications again. That ability has been severely limited since January, when Mr. Bush agreed to put the wiretap program under the supervision of a special court created by the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). The new law provides a six-month fix to the outdated FISA provision that had defined even foreign-to-foreign calls as subject to a U.S. judicial warrant.

WHY ARE CHRISTIANS SO GULLIBLE? By Pastor Chuck Baldwin

That today's Christians appear to be among the most gullible people on the planet seems to be a gigantic understatement. Those days are gone.

Today, the largest and most influential churches are pastored by fluff-daisies such as Joel Osteen, Bill Hybels, and Rick Warren: men who preach entertainment evangelism, political correctness, and feel-goodism. Today's largest churches share absolutely nothing in common with America's historic revival-style churches. How can Christians be so gullible to fall for these snake oil salesmen?

“We are fighting to destroy the enemy. We are dealing with evil and its roots and its roots are America.” – Sheikh Mubarek Ali Gilani, Founder of Jamaat ul-Fuqra

These compounds, which contain firing ranges and obstacle courses, are located at such places as Hancock, New York; Hyattsville, Maryland; Falls Church, Virginia; York, South Carolina; Dover, Tennessee; Buena Vista, Colorado; Talihina, Oklahoma; Tulane Country, California; and Squaw Valley, California. Multiple compounds have been established on the rural outskirts of Macon, Georgia and Red House, Virginia. Several of these sites contain landing strips and elaborate networks of underground bunkers. A very telling example of the disparity between the parties’ online, grassroots effectiveness is in the field of candidate fundraising. Act Blue, the Democrat clearinghouse for online donations to candidates, has raised over $25 million for Democrat candidates since its launch in 2004. During that time, the Republican Party has tried and failed repeatedly to achieve anything remotely resembling that level of success in online fundraising (or in most other online ventures), despite attempts to replicate the Democrat systems in these areas and to use them for GOP purposes.

The controversy centers around the source of the temperature change -- man-made or natural causes. Global warming alarmists hold the view that it's man-made emissions of CO2 that's driving climate change, and they seek to suppress any dissent suggesting other causes.

The High Court dismissed the appeal, saying the bishops' sense of outrage is not shared by the wider community. To add insult to injury the court ordered the Catholic Bishops to pay the Defendant broadcaster's costs amounting to $8,000.

Yet outrage apparently exists at a Pace University student, Stanislav Shmulevich who flushed the Koran in a University toilet after admittedly having a disagreement with some Muslim students. Shmulevich was arrested and charged with two felony counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree as a Hate Crime. "

Is Christianity to Blame for Europe’s Demise? | The Brussels Journal

"A quote from Conservative Swede at his blog, 6 August 2007

We are witnessing the historical demise of Christianity. When a star dies, in its last phase it expands into a red giant, before it shrinks into a white dwarf. Liberalism is the red giant of Christianity. And just as a red giant it is devoid of its core, it expands thousandfold while losing its substance and is about to die. [...]"

Winter Soldier Syndrome By Michelle Malkin

"The tale of Army Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp, the discredited 'Baghdad Diarist' for the discredited New Republic magazine, is an old tale:

Self-aggrandizing soldier recounts war atrocities. Media outlets disseminate soldier's tales uncritically. Military folks smell a rat and poke holes in tales too good (or rather, bad) to be true. Soldier's ideological sponsors blame the messengers for exposing anti-war fraud.

Beauchamp belongs in the same ward as John F. Kerry, the original infectious agent of the toxic American disease known as Winter Soldier Syndrome. The ward is filling up."

Hoekstra Responds to The New York Times - HUMAN EVENTS

"Today, Michigan Republican Pete Hoesktra sent a scathing letter to NYT executive editor Bill Keller, detailing what Hoekstra called the Times' '...recklessness in repeatedly disclosing highly classified intelligence programs to enemies who seek to attack our nation,' and the Times' coverage of the Foreign Intelligence Act amendments.

Hoekstra said of the Times' editorial titled, 'The Fear of Fear Itself,' 'The only real basis for 'fear' here is the scare tactics being perpetuated by the Times, which has knowingly and willfully misrepresented the new law to scare the American people.'

Is Our Decency Our Weakness? By John W. Howard

"The rise of Islam challenges our most cherished beliefs. The fundamental animating principle that defines us as a nation is that each individual is endowed with unalienable rights; that each citizen is entitled to equal dignity and the protective arm of government; that each individual is precious. From our earliest founding documents, we have defined government as having one primary function and that is to ensure the liberty of its citizens.

We see government’s most legitimate function as protective rather than constraining. The Bill of Rights, the portion of our governing document with which Americans are most familiar, includes a list (by its terms not exhaustive) of rights government cannot abridge. The presumption, enshrined in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, is against governmental power over the individual and in favor of the retention of rights. Government may not impinge on the rights of its citizens except under extraordinary circumstances. No other country so jealously guards or more zealously protects the rights of its individual citizens. The very purpose of the Bill of Rights is to emphasize the limit of governmental power that is our basic assumption. "

More time spent on Web than newspapers | Reuters

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. consumers this year will spend more of their day surfing the Internet than reading newspapers or going to the movies or listening to recorded music, according a study released on Tuesday.

The findings are part of a new report from private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson that shows advertisers are paying close attention to the shift in consumer behavior and putting more money into areas like digital marketing.

Last year, the top two advertising mediums were newspapers, at $55.7 billion, and broadcast television, at $48.7 billion, according to VSS."

Tyranny Terror and Moral Relativism By Rev. Bresciani

"America was founded on the premise that men should live without tyranny from oppressive rulers and laws. It is a battle that never really ends. Tyranny has two equally dangerous and deadly sisters creeping into America’s social fabric and both are endowed with deep skullduggeries.

Now America must fight terrorism with equal determination and skill as it once did against rising tyrannies. Unwittingly, America may be losing to an equally serious enemy right on her own home field. Pop culture, liberal trends and moral relativism are becoming the norm for millions each year and the trend may be out-pacing any and all previous threats to our future."

They Say They Want a Reconquista? By Allan Wall

"Is 'reconquista' for real? Are there really ethnic separatist movements in the United States today? Some people scoff at the whole idea, confident that all immigrants will assimilate, and don’t want to turn the United States into the country from whence they came. Others write off any talk about reconquista as a right-wing anti-immigrant fantasy.

More people are waking up, however, to see that there is more afoot than simply the isolated rantings of some radical professors (which is certainly part of it.) "

Gates of Vienna :: The Only Time White is All Right

"Australian television is running a series of ads on domestic violence called “Violence Against Women: Australia says no!” These commercials are funded by the Australian government to address a serious issue — some guys beat up on women they profess to care about.

Every culture attempts to find ways to channel aggression constructively. Australia is no different. However, according to The Age, only white men have a predilection for violence against women. If you look at the VAW website and peruse the pages of an “Australian government initiative” you’ll make a fascinating discovery: no other ethnic group suffers from this problem. All of the “brown people” have been airbrushed out of the picture."

Blazing Cat Fur: Haroon Siddiqui still misses point on Islamic terrorism

"Haroon Siddiqui offers his latest Islamofascist apologia - this one is silly even by his standards

Confront roots of terrorism, not just the symptoms

Terrorism by Muslims is real. It cannot be wished away. The only debate is how best to tackle it.

The War on Terror has vastly increased terrorism, empowered radicals, strained America's relations with much of the world, and diluted our own democracies.

Many intelligence services, think-tanks and an increasing number of governments now see a clear link between the terrorism and the wars in Iraq, the Israeli Occupied Territories, Afghanistan, etc.

Those who disagree ask: What about Muslim-on-Muslim violence? After all, Muslims are the biggest victims of terrorism. Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other. So are supporters of the Islamist Hamas and the secular but mostly Muslim Fatah."

Christianity finds a fulcrum in Asia By Spengler

Ten thousand Chinese become Christians each day, according to a stunning report by the National Catholic Reporter's veteran correspondent John Allen, and 200 million Chinese may comprise the world's largest concentration of Christians by mid-century, and the largest missionary force in history. [1] If you read a single news article about China this year, make sure it is this one.

I suspect that even the most enthusiastic accounts err on the downside, and that Christianity will have become a Sino-centric
religion two generations from now. China may be for the 21st century what Europe was during the 8th-11th centuries, and America has been during the past 200 years: the natural ground for mass evangelization. If this occurs, the world will change beyond our capacity to recognize it. Islam might defeat the western Europeans, simply by replacing their diminishing numbers with immigrants, but it will crumble beneath the challenge from the East.

Excitement Deprives Children of Happiness By Dennis Prager

If you want your children to be happy adults and even happy children -- and what parent does not? -- minimize the excitement in their lives. The more excitement, the less happy they are likely to be.

In both adults and children, one can either pursue excitement or pursue happiness, but one cannot do both. If you pursue excitement, you will not attain happiness. If you pursue happiness, you will still experience some moments of excitement, but you will attain happiness only if happiness, not excitement, is your goal.

This Should Never Happen In America :: Katie’s Dad 2.0

I’m incensed over another travesty perpetuated against an American citizen by his government…thanks to another American citizen’s decision to save a buck by screwing his fellow countrymen. I don’t need to write a lot on this. I’ll let the victim describe what happened:

My name is Terry Funderburk. I live in Columbia, SC and have a small business in the new home construction industry here. I install copper on new homes. I have been in business for almost 20 years now and always had plenty of work lined up. Usually, I had 20 to 30 jobs lined up for the next few weeks.

Last year my company grossed 176 thousand. I have 2 employees and a partner. (my son). This year though, things have gone to hell in a handbasket. Here we are almost into August and my business has grossed so far this year 18 thousand. (by this time last year we had grossed 110 grand). So whats different between this year and last year?

Right, the illegal competition. Let me tell you a little story that actually happened to me this week (it still seems surreal). But it begins about a month ago. Then I stopped by a home that was being rebuilt due to a lightning strike last year I knew the homeowner, I have done 2 different copperjobs on his house before it burned down. I asked him if he was planning on installing copper on the front and rear porches and he said yes, to please give him a bid on it.

He said that he had an international team of roofers to install the shingles on the roof and that if I wanted the copperjob to be sure to give him a low bid. He said that the international roofers got paid 4 to 5 dollars an hour for the shingles. (thats what American roofers were making in 1970). Well, I turned in a bid to him for 5 grand on the copperwork. A fair price.

The West in the 21st Century — Developed or Developing Nations? :: Gates of Vienna

In the debate regarding how the relationship between the Old West, Europe, and the New West, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, will be in the 21st century, many observers seem to take for granted that much of Europe will fall to Islam, and that native Europeans will flee and resettle in the New West. There is, however, another scenario that is theoretically possible, but little discussed. What if the opposite happens? There are Europeans emigrating/fleeing to these nations already now, but I think they will discover once there that the problems they are fleeing from are already present in their new homelands. Some of them are even worse there, especially since many of those fleeing will be white, and they will discover that whites are rapidly diminishing as a factor in these countries and that hostility towards whites is rising.

Barack Obama, You're No John F. Kennedy By Doug Patton

Barack Obama is attempting to portray himself as the next John F. Kennedy.  In fact, the spin machine within the Obama campaign, and supporters like former Kennedy speechwriter-advisor Theodore Sorenson, have been working over time trying to promote that analogy.  And Lloyd Bentsen had the audacity to make fun of Dan Quayle.

John F. Kennedy was a bona fide war hero in the pacific during World War II.  He served six years in the U.S. House of Representatives and eight years in the Senate.  He was President of the United States for nearly three years.  And he was assassinated.  All this by the time he was the age Barack Obama is now.

Michigan town could be first U.S. municipality controlled by Muslims By Chad Groening

One of the nation's leading critics of the Islamic religion is concerned that a Michigan community could become the first U.S. municipality to be controlled by Muslims.

Hamtramck, Michigan, made news in 2004 when the city council passed an ordinance allowing Muslims to broadcast calls for prayer over loudspeakers in the community. Now Hamtramck has four Muslims seeking city council posts. If all are victorious, they would join one incumbent Muslim council member to control five of the six council seats.

Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch, a project of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, is concerned over this upcoming election. He believes the Muslims are emboldened in the city and would impose their laws on everyone else in the community.

A Bridge to 'Moderate' Islam Is In Fact a Road to Hell By Amil Imani

Islam is a religion of peace and the great majority of Muslims are not party to any plans and actions of the radicals’- so claim academic pundits, leftist journalists, and hired Islamic apologists. The incantation of these “authorities” is the lullaby that puts the people into a sleep of complacency.

Complacency and appeasement on the part of the free world and those well-meaning, non-practicing Muslims, can only serve Islam. There is no chance for co-existence with Islam. All one needs to know is to see what is happening in Islamic countries. That is exactly what is in store for the presently free people of the world if Islam is not held in check.

The average free person, who is busy with all manner of demands on his time and resources, would hardly want to worry about the very real threat which mainstream Islam poses to his life and to his future. It is so much easier to accept the claims of authorities who assure us not to worry; ‘it’s just a tiny minority of extremists’, and ‘soon the great majority of “moderates” will triumph over the crazy zealots’. So we lull ourselves back to the comfort of our pretenses, serene in knowing that the “experts” have it all under control.

America Alone By Stephen W. Browne

I tend to be skeptical about disaster scenarios based on statistical reasoning. Firstly, I'm old enough to remember when the fashionable disasters were the Next Ice Age, one-square-meter-per-person overpopulation, and famine deaths in the billions - the latter set to arrive without fail in 1980. Fashion disaster accessories included exhaustion of natural resources and the extinction of blondes by the year 2000.
Secondly, I've actually studied statistics and believe me there is nothing like it to give you a healthy appreciation of the old saw "Figures don't lie - but liars can figure."
So it takes a fairly simple and straightforward set of figures to impress me. Now try these on for size:
* The most popular boy's name in the cities of Amsterdam and Malmo (Sweden), Belgium, and the fifth most popular in the United Kingdom, is Mohammed.
* The Muslim population of Rotterdam is 40%.

Is this Really a Hate Crime? By Jason Rantz

As you may recall, I twice discussed the questionably anti-Semitic behavior of Pace administrators in mistreating the campus student Jewish organization, while kowtowing to demands of the student Muslim groups. After I was contacted by Pace’s flack Christopher Cory, the school’s Executive Director of Public Information, it was clear they were spinning events so fast it made me dizzy.

In the columns, I make it clear that the campus administration took radically different approaches to anti-Semitic behavior and anti-Muslim behavior.

When a Menorah was desecrated on campus and a swastika was drawn on a Holocaust memorial event poster, the University’s president David A. Caputo labeled the events as "bias incidents."

When a paperback Koran was tossed in a toilet – resulting in minimal water damage – Caputo labeled the incident as a “hate crime” that outraged him.

The Leftwing Circus Comes to Town By Dennis Byrne

The YearlyKos presidential forum here in Chicago did such a wonderful job of spotlighting the extreme elements of the Democratic Party that conservatives should hope that they make it a monthly, even weekly, event.

Consider: It really takes something to make Hilary Clinton look good, but the leftwing bloggers who partake of the poisonous rhetoric that flows on the Daily Kos web site pulled it off. Of course, making Clinton look good isn't saying much when you're sharing the debating stage with the other Democratic candidates, there to kowtow to their base.

Anti-Gun Argument, Always Pure Hysterics By Warner Todd Huston

The anti-gun argument is always built solely upon emotional excess. It’s all about “feelings” and “fears” and almost never built on any facts or reality. In another example of the kind of hand-wringing, excessive, faux compassion that ignores the real statistics we are so used to, the Charlotte Observer has given space to one of their propagandists...I mean writers...to vent against the evil gun, once again.

The Observer's Dannye Romine-Powell (God save us from another hyphenated named, female liberal) gets all amush over the "unruffled thinking" of her gun hating husband and tries her hand at citing statistics to such poor effect that it is embarrassing. But her empty argument very much embodies that which lies at the heart of the anti-Constitutional crowd.

Democrats Abort Election Reform By Paul R. Hollrah

For most of post-Civil War history Democrats have controlled political outcomes by tampering with access to the ballot box and by perfecting and engaging in every conceivable kind of fraud, violence, and intimidation. They have registered and voted innumerable dead and non-existent persons. They have intimidated many thousands more through arson, violence, and the threat of violence. And they’ve sent night-riding bands of KKK marauders to lynch thousands of blacks and more than a thousand white Republicans. They’ve done all of these things, and much of it continues to this day.

For example, in the 2000 General Election, more than a hundred thousand resident aliens in California, non-citizens, received voting cards from the California Democratic State Committee. The mailing list could only have been supplied by political appointees in the Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS). The cover letter was signed by Bill Clinton.

In August 2004, disabled veterans residing in Florida received letters put out by the Florida Democratic State Committee telling them that the Bush Administration intended to cut their VA benefits.
