How Iranian Leftists Protect Islamic Regime By Kambiz Basetvat

Iranian commentators in US media, with the impressive professorship credentials from prestigious universities or other institutions, are engaged in providing considerable misinformation to the American public concerning the course of action that US should take for overthrowing the Islamic regime in Iran. After twenty seven years dealing with Islamic regime, the US government and the united stats people have no doubt in hostility they are facing from Hezb Allah regime. The political ambitions of Islamo-Fascist head quartered in Iran, although, concentrated in the Middle East for the time being, but they are global. The Islamo-Fascist is challenging the US vision of the world the same way fascism and communism had done in the twentieth century.

The Petraeus Report and 'Vets on the Hill' By Peter Hesgeth

Here we are – the final week of our "Ten Weeks to Testimony" campaign – and General Petraeus spent all day Monday and Tuesday testifying before committees in the House and Senate. By all accounts, General Petraeus laid out an informed, measured, and professional assessment of the situation in Iraq.

Said Petraeus, "The military objective of the surge are, in large measure, being met" and Ambassador Ryan Crocker added that "a secure, stable democratic Iraq at peace with its neighbors is attainable." General Petraeus also stated that civilian deaths in all categories have declined 45% since December and that sectarian deaths in Baghdad have declined by 80% since December.

Former Fed Chief Attacks Bush on Fiscal Role By EDMUND L. ANDREWS and DAVID E. SANGER

Alan Greenspan, who was chairman of the Federal Reserve for nearly two decades, in a long-awaited memoir, is harshly critical of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and the Republican-controlled Congress, as abandoning their party’s principles on spending and deficits.

In the 500-page book, “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World,” Mr. Greenspan describes the Bush administration as so captive to its own political operation that it paid little attention to fiscal discipline, and he described Mr. Bush’s first two Treasury secretaries, Paul H. O’Neill and John W. Snow, as essentially powerless.

Mr. Bush, he writes, was never willing to contain spending or veto bills that drove the country into deeper and deeper deficits, as Congress abandoned rules that required that the cost of tax cuts be offset by savings elsewhere. “The Republicans in Congress lost their way,” writes Mr. Greenspan, a self-described “libertarian Republican.”

“They swapped principle for power. They ended up with neither. They deserved to lose” in the 2006 election, when they lost control of the House and Senate.

Impediments to Making Us Safer By Dennis Lormel

On September 12, I posted an article on the Counterterrorism Blog addressing the question “are we safer as a nation now than we were before 9/11”. I stated that we were safer but not safe, which is a prevailing theme. I attributed our safety, in great part, to the government agencies at the federal, state and local level, which are responsible for protecting us against the threat of terrorism. Unfortunately, there are impediments which make protecting us a more difficult task, thereby jeopardizing our safety.

For the Love of God By Michael J. Lewis

The poet of putrefaction strikes again. Or should one say festers again? Since Damien Hirst first achieved notoriety in 1990 by placing a rotting cow’s head in a glass vitrine, he has gone on to immerse a shark in formaldehyde, saw a cow and calf into precise cross-sections, and even to congratulate the hijackers of 9/11 for creating a “visually stunning” work of art. Now the 1995 Turner Prize winner has achieved another milestone. His work entitled For the Love of God, which consists of an actual human skull encrusted with 8,601 diamonds, has just been sold to a consortium of anonymous investors for £50 million. It is (by far) highest price ever paid for a work by a living artist.

We Did It To Ourselves – Thanks to Free-Traders by Patrick J. Buchanan

“After 34 years with LTV Steel, I was forced to retire because of a disability. Two years later, LTV filed bankruptcy. I lost a third of my pension, and my family lost their health care. Every day of my life, I sit at the kitchen table across from the woman who devoted 36 years of her life to my family, and I can’t afford to pay for her health care. What’s wrong with America, and what will you do to change it?”

It was the most compelling moment of the Democratic debate at Soldier Field. The speaker was retired steelworker Steve Skvara. He stood on crutches, voice breaking, as he spoke.

There are millions of Steve Skvaras out there, and what they do not know, in their anger and frustration, is that their government did this to them. They are the victims of an ideology that gripped both parties and is destroying the middle-class country they grew up in.

CAUTION: SUPER-SIZED EGOS AT WORK :: Dr. Sanity

What can you say about a serious (very serious) presidential candidate who retains a national security criminal as her national security advisor?

This is a story about a buffoon who became one of our nation's top national security officials, and then became a confessed national security criminal. His probation ended last week, and he still can't be given access to classified documents or information. But he's once again part of the "triumvirate" of senior officials advising She Who Would Be President on foreign policy matters.

I find this absolutely stunning. Is she going to give a key ambassadorship to Norman Hsu when he gets out of jail?
The fact that the MSM gives this a complete pass is even more stunning. Do you want to know how this information came out? In an article about Hillary and Obama competing for the 'best and brightest'!!

Christians are mixed up... in mysticism By Marsha West

More and more of those who profess Christ are “experiencing God” in ways that lands them smack dab in the middle of the New Age movement. It’s not like they haven’t been warned about experimenting with mysticism. They’ve been warned plenty, yet they totally disregard wise counsel. So if you’re among the sheep who have gone astray, consider the Bible’s wise counsel: “It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him”(Deut 13:4).

I must admit I’m mystified (pun intended) as to why so many Christians are choosing to leave the narrow road Jesus spoke of and follow Oprah down the broad road that leads to destruction. What’s up with that?

The EU Wants to Increase Muslim Immigration and Internet Censorship By Fjordman

A few months ago, the EU's Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini worried about what to do with illegal immigration. To no-one's surprise, he appears to have settled for surrendering and making it legal. The skilled glossocrat Frattini has already banned the use of the phrase Islamic terrorism: "You cannot use the term 'Islamic terrorism,'" he insisted. "People who commit suicide attacks or criminal activities on behalf of religion, Islamic religion or other religion, they abuse the name of this religion." He now thinks we shouldn't use the word "immigration," either, we should talk about "mobility." Moreover, the "Asian" and "African" immigrants in this case generally come from the predominantly Muslim countries of North Africa and the Middle East, with some additional ones from Pakistan and similar nations. The EU has thus decided to flood Europe with tens of millions of Muslims, at the same time as peaceful Europeans demonstrating against the Islamization of Europe were brutally harassed by the police in the EU capital of Brussels.

What Kind of Person Calls Himself 'Progressive'? By James Lewis

We all want progress. We may disagree whether gay marriage or drug legalization constitutes progress or not. But we all want better things for the world -- better food, better health and well-being, scientific and technical advances, wiser political systems, more peace and freedom,  more happy children, more humane treatment of animals, more tolerance, more prosperity for the world, you name it. That's called being a decent person.

So what kind of person has to label himself "Progressive?" Obviously somebody who believes he (or she) understands real progress better than the rest of us. Because if you are a Progressive it implies that everybody else, let's face it, is a Regressive, or maybe just a Stagnant. It's a smirky, self-flattering way of saying you're a lot better than the rest.

DNA and The Scientific Case For Faith by Babu Ranganathan

The subject of DNA is very much in the headlines and news but very few have bothered to learn or understand just how this amazing molecule works and how it makes us what we are from head to toe. Haven't you ever asked yourself how you got your nose, eyes, ears, fingers, toes, and everything else? How did your DNA bring all this about? Before we answer that question we need to know just a few simple things about DNA.

DNA is the abbreviated name for the genetic code and it is exactly that - a code. It is a sequential molecular string of chemical information.

DNA is located in the nucleus of our cells and is made up of various smaller molecules called nucleic acids. These various smaller molecules in our DNA are arranged in an exact sequence, just like the various letters found in a sentence. The sequence of these nucleic acids tells the cells in our body how to build our nose, eyes, hands, feet, and everything else. If the sequence for something isn't there our bodies won't build it!

So I think they’ll join me in saying: Thank goodness for Laura Ingraham’s latest book, “Power to the People.”

Loyal listeners of the Laura Ingraham show are addicted to her gutsy take on the issues of the day, making her one of the most powerful people in talk radio (and certainly the most powerful woman). I’m convinced that a key reason people love Laura is because she also gives her audience the courage we need to become powerful forces of our own. Yes, “Power to the People” provides an in-depth look at important issues and arms readers with facts and figures. Christianity Today? Or Politics Today? By Joseph Farah

What it means is slicing it up geographically and turning over most of the historically Jewish lands to Israel's most bitter enemies – people sworn to eradicate the tiny Jewish presence in the Middle East.

In an editorial this month, the magazine came out with both barrels blazing in favor of a "two-state solution" that would turn over most, if not all, of Judea and Samaria and surely half of Jerusalem to the Palestinian Authority terrorists who are still, to this day, sworn to Israel's annihilation.

Like lukewarm spiritual and political moderates, Christianity Today tries to chart a middle course between "replacement theology," that suggests the modern rebirth of Israel has no biblical or prophetic significance, and "dispensationalists," who believe Jews have a God-given birthright to a land never claimed by any other people during an 1,800-year diaspora.

The magazine cautions evangelicals to learn how "to bless Israel and love it."

The first was the dissolution of his government by Putin and his appointment of unknown bureaucrat Viktor Zubkov to be prime minister, passing over the expected successor, deputy prime minister and former defense minister Sergei Ivanov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin walks along the Khemchik River in the Tuva region of Siberia in this Aug. 15 file photo. Putin is obligated under Russia's constitution to step down after elections next March. But observers think he's reluctant to retire as Russia, flush with energy revenues, rebuilds its military and flexes its muscles as Putin literally did in front of the camera on a recent trip to Siberia.

Media Not Interested In American Islamists By Richard Newcomb

Is the mainstream media uninterested in radical Islamists in America? Recent events would seem to indicate that that may indeed be the case. Today, according to the Dearborn, Michigan Press & Guide, a Muslim medical student named Houssein Zorkot was arrested while wearing full combat gear and carrying an AK-47 rifle. His website contained a plethora of anti-American imagery and included shots of him posing with a picture of Hezbollah leader Sheik Nasrallah. Of course, the local media neglected to mention the Islamic connection when reporting Zorkot's arrest. He was identified only as a 'third-year medical student'. The Press & Guide appears to think that ostrich-like behavior is the best course of action when confronted by murderous barbarians like Zorkot and his Muslim allies. So far not a single national news organ has picked up this story. This is all too similar to the story of North Carolina terrorist Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, whose clear motivation for his act of terror was his religion. Despite Taheri claiming that 'Allah is my lawyer' and similar phrases, the local ABC affiliate did not post a single reference to his religion in their story on the attack. Simultaneously, it appears that the case of the US government against the Holy Land Foundation- a Muslim organization strongly linked with the fundamentalist Muslim organization the Muslim Brotherhood- has managed to fly beneath the mainstream press' mention. Fortunately, despite the disinterest of the major media ogans, Rod Dreher has been attending this trial. As reported by Dreher in the Dallas Morning News,

Americans are from America; Europeans are from Europe :: Right Reason

During the last one-hundred years, Europe and the USA have stood shoulder to shoulder in a global battle for freedom. I will ask you to disregard for the sake of the argument which made the largest sacrifice. Instead, grant this. If any of the two, at any crucial time, had been forced to go it alone, it is likely that Europe now would be marching to the tunes of Wagner or Russian marches.

Such a development would have contributed substantially to the demise of the USA, as well as the rest of the world. An important observation follows: while it is true that Europe has the USA to thank for its freedom, it is equally true that the USA owes a good deal of gratitude to millions of freedom-loving Europeans, forming the first front against Nazism and communism. Today’s good life, in the richest and freest nation in the history of civilization, would not have been possible without the fighting men and women of Europe. (This should have been something to consider during the times when Jacques Chirac and Gerhard Shroeder and their ilk made a wreck of Europe’s reputation by playing domestic party politics with global security.)

Let me offer a different approach on the off-chance that some candidate might find it useful: Tell voters the hard truth -- and challenge them.

In particular, tell them we are at a critical moment in our nation’s history: A dangerous enemy is waging an unconventional war against us. We are just beginning to learn how to defend ourselves. Furthermore, the Democratic National committee may decide to keep a copy of the bin Laden tape, which could come in handy during the 2008 campaign season.  Just as aspiring politicians feel compelled to pander in Spanish to the increasing numbers of “undocumented voters,” so might Dean and the Democrats want to remind those “Jihadist-Americans” in their native tongue which party will best ensure that their interests are served.

The Council on Social Work Education, the national accreditor of social work education programs, says candidates must fight "oppression," and sees American society as pervaded by the "global interconnections of oppression." Now aspiring social workers must commit themselves, usually in writing, to a culturally left agenda, often including diversity programs, state-sponsored redistribution of income, and a readiness to combat heterosexism, ableism, and classism.

An "Obominable" Plan by Austin Bay

Barack Obama has kinda-sorta demanded withdrawal from Iraq. He wants US forces to leave Iraq by the end of 2008 — that isn’t an immediate withdrawal, but it is still a timetable for abandoning Iraq.

Accept Obama’s demand for what it is: a quick genuflection to MoveOn.org, the DailyKos, and the other nutroot groups which rhetorically ignite —and bully—today’s Democratic Party. Obama is trying to appeal to the Code Pink Stalinists and gray-haired profs with Vietnam-era ponytails who vote in Democratic Party primaries.

Obama’s call for defeat is reminiscent of his rhetorically botched recommendation that the US invade Pakistan. Alas, this year’s Mr. Excitement has a lot to learn. Shady characters and a re-play of Bill Clinton’s “Chinese financial culture of corruption” haunt Hillary’s campaign — it appears a basic lack of international savvy is Obama’s glaring defect.

Not so. Culture is just a polite term for what’s going on. Culture is also only a part of what’s going on. What’s happening is a first-class spiritual war: God against the devil.

Take for instance the two major political parties. They are dealing with spiritual matters on the front burners. The issues have to do with right versus wrong.

The Dems are for killing womb babies. The Republicans are against murdering womb babies.

The Dems are for baptizing sodomy. The Republicans are against sodomy on the grounds fundamentally that it’s evil.

But Andrew may have spoken too soon: The country could have a glorious future ahead of it, free of domination by either of its ancient tribes. Already, the Mayor of Brussels, Freddy Thielemans, presides over a ruling Socialist Party caucus, ten of whose seventeen members are Muslim.

That's to say, the capital city of the European Union has a Muslim-majority governing party.

Hillary Clinton: I Will Change Our Country By Steven M. Warshawsky

In the spring of 1993, shortly after her husband and political benefactor Bill Clinton took office as the nation's 42nd president, Hillary Clinton delivered the commencement address at the University of Texas.  In her speech, Hillary reiterated the theme that has been at the heart of her political vision from the start:

"We are at a stage in history in which remolding society is one of the great challenges facing all of us in the West."

"Remolding society."  This is the terminology of a utopian socialist, one who seeks to remake society according to a narrow and dogmatic ideology that claims to eliminate injustice, poverty, and unhappiness, once and for all.  Hillary's ideology is an amalgam of New Left marxism and grievance feminism, the kind of unwholesome stew that is commonplace on elite college campuses.

Ignorance of Islam By Travis Kavulla

I was in Cambridge, Mass., in February of last year when I heard the latest from Iraq: The al-Askari Mosque, the so-called “Golden Mosque” of Samarra, had been nearly leveled in a devastating explosion.

That night, I attended a regular, rather casual seminar on the works of Cantabrigian authors, led by a prodigious member of Harvard’s Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations department. The professor arrived late to class, and was not in the mood to talk about T. S. Eliot when he did. “Do any of you know what the Golden Mosque is?” he asked. Blank stares followed, punctuated only by the eager nodding of my roommate, whose passion is the Middle East.

Follow the Money :: New York Sun Editorial

While the Democrats in the Congress were calling General Petraeus a liar for arguing that things were getting better in Iraq, one of our favorite publications — Grant's Interest Rate Observer — was circulating around town with a cover story called "Strongest currency, best bourse." It turns out that is in neither Switzerland nor Britain nor Japan nor America but Iraq, which, Grant's reports, "has turned into a capital magnet." Says it: "The only thing stronger than the Iraqi currency is the Baghdad stock market." And it adds this classic Grantian formulation: "Money is sometimes misinformed, but it is never insincere. A MUSLIM WHO STANDS AGAINST EURABIA AND THE ISLAMIC CULTURE OF DEATH :: Real Clear Religion

Magdi Allam is a muslim, but no ordinary Muslim--he is a staunch opponent of the Islamization of Europe. He is an Egyptian born columnist and vice-director of Corriere della Sera, Italy’s leading daily newspaper. He has become Italy’s most prominent critic of Islam and his views have become highly regarded in more conservative Catholic circles.

Allam's mother sent him to a Catholic boarding school in Egypt, where he began studying Western culture and civilization. He later immigated to Italy.

He has supported a ban against building new mosques in Italy and has sought to expose underground relationships between Italian mosques and international terrorist groups. His writings and opinions have led to numerous death threats and have necessitated him to be under constant guard.

"Cultural relativism makes me sick" by Chaalan Charif and Nicolien den Boer*

Geert Wilders, the leader of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), is known for his anti-Islamic remarks, his striking blonde mane and the many death threats he has received. It's less well known that he spent most of his time on a kibbutz chasing girls and once named Syria as his favourite holiday destination. He even watches Arabic television channels every evening. Geert Wilders spoke to Chalaan Charif and Nicolien den Boer from RNW's Arabic desk.

Geert Wilders' office in The Hague is a high security stronghold. Once the parliamentary security people have established that the journalists are who they say they are, the real screening begins. No less than four burly bodyguards tell us what we can and can't do ("No filming in Mr Wilders' room" "Photographs? Only against the backdrop of an empty anonymous wall."), search our bag of recording equipment and bombard us with questions. ("Do you have any weapons? Are there any secret compartments in your bag?).

For three years now Wilders has been under heavy guard because of regular death threats. After his proposal a few weeks back that the Qur'an should be banned, more threats streamed in.

Inspired by the Nazis By Suzanne Fields

A few days before the sixth anniversary of 9/11, a young man ranting in Arabic accosted a rabbi walking home from his synagogue in an upscale neighborhood of Frankfurt, and stabbed him. As he shoved the blade of his pocketknife into the rabbi's stomach, he switched from Arabic to German and told the man: "You sh---- Jew, I'm going to kill you." The rabbi survived, and Jewish leaders in Germany were outraged and condemned the barbarism, but moderated their criticism.

"We oppose leveling blanket accusations at the Muslim community because the majority of Muslims in Germany condemn acts of violence in the name of Islam," Dieter Graumann, the vice president of the German Jewish Council, said. But he observed that Islamist hate preachers regularly exhort young Muslims to carry out jihad against Jews, and asked why so few leaders of the Islamic community in Germany speak out against violence in the name of Mohammed.

Suspicious Surveys By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

You can be sure that when the media release a poll tied to a major news event, it's often biased. The testimony of Gen. David Petraeus on the eve of the sixth anniversary of 9/11 was just such an event.

Two major polls released this week struck us as particularly tendentious. One, from the U.S.-based Associated Press in conjunction with France's Ipsos polling firm, claimed "most Americans see the Iraq war as a failure" and that a majority also think the 30,000-troop surge led by Petraeus "is not working."

Meanwhile, a separate poll, this one of Iraqis by ABC/BBC/NHK, found "worsening public attitudes," with 65% to 70% saying the surge has hurt security, not helped.

Media Negative throughout Nearly Four Years of Job Growth By Julia A. Seymour

The media haven’t done the best job on jobs.

In 47 straight months of job growth, the U.S. economy has created 8.3 million jobs. But despite that economic achievement, the media have consistently presented employment news and the overall economy negatively in the past four years.

Katie Couric dismissed July 2007 job creation in one sentence on the “CBS Evening News” August 3: “The Labor Department says the economy was able to create only 92,000 jobs.” (emphasis added)

Despite economic worries over subprime loans and credit markets, the chief economist of Bear Stearns, David Malpass, wrote that “Jobs matter more” in an August 7 editorial.

“Jobs matter more. For many, the value of future employment is much greater than their home equity. The low jobless claims and unemployment rate – clear signs of a strong labor environment – raise confidence and likely future wages,” wrote Malpass in The Wall Street Journal.

It was not just the events taking place in Brussels on September 11th 2007 that indicated the end of democracy in Europe. We have known for a long, long time that if it means gaining or holding on to the pants of power, Hillary Clinton will lie any lie, betray any friend, deny any principle, nut and slut any woman, or smile any scandal. However, since she’s been running for President, she has made it abundantly clear that to fully describe her behavior; Americans must add “grovel any Liberal slime.”

Before mentioning a few particularly disgusting examples of Mrs. Clinton’s decision to  grovel before and kiss the ugliest of Liberal asses, we must point out that in true Clintonian fashion, she first sister souljahed Liberals with the pronouncement that she prefers “Progressive” politics over “Liberal” politics.

Of course, other Liberals immediately understood this latest pile of Clintonian bull as a political wink-wink because they, too, have been busy trying to pull the wool over the public eye by invoking the word “Progressive” as often as they cough up other Orwellian terms (including the million “undocumented workers” they have hacked upon the nation).

Why Did Israel Air Force Enter Syria And Why Is The World Quiet? By David Storobin, Esq.

So why did the Israel Air Force (IAF) fly deep inside the Syrian territory? Some have suggested that it was done to gather intelligence, to attack terrorists and even to bomb the embryonic Syrian nuclear facilities. All of these may be true and I have no way to either confirm or deny these claims. But it is possible to gauge Jerusalem's desired long-term effects, and the reason why the world has remained silent.
First, let’s consider the known facts and the known desires of Israel.
After the less-than-satisfactory effort in Lebanon, the Jewish state needs to:

  • 1. re-establish itself as a major power that scares others, which in turn also requires it to
  • 2. win a war.
Additionally, it is well known that both the US and the EU believe that Iran’s nuclear program is for military purposes, which must be stopped at all costs.

Cognitive Dissonance By Andrew C. McCarthy

The much-anticipated testimony of a most impressive man, General David Petraeus, underscores a fact that is essential but much overlooked. No matter how adept and heroic our military is — and, as their commander observed, they are “very likely, the most professional force in our nation’s history” — the purpose of a military in a constitutional democracy such as ours is to effect policy, not create it.

Crafting policy is the business of our elected civilian leaders. Thus it was counterintuitive to hear Ryan C. Crocker, the top U.S. diplomat in Iraq, frame of our policy only after General Petraeus’s report of progress to achieve it. The counterintuitive, moreover, quickly lapsed into the contradictory. Ambassador Crocker averred:

[I]t is possible for the United States to see its goals realized in Iraq[.]… A secure, stable, democratic Iraq at peace with its neighbors is attainable. In my judgment, the cumulative trajectory of political, economic, and diplomatic developments in Iraq is upwards, although the slope of that line is not steep.

The process of settlement [of Islam in the United States] is a "Civilization-Jihadist" process with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that all their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and "sabotaging" their miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all religions. Without this level of understanding, we are not up to this challenge and have not prepared ourselves for Jihad yet. Iraq as Qaeda Bait By James Lewis

The Left thinks Iraq is a killing field for Americans. Actually, it is a killing field for our enemies, at a very great but vitally important sacrifice. That reflects a grand strategy, tailored to the peculiar nature of the global terror threat.

You don't shoot poisonous fire-ants with a BB gun; you just set an ant trap. Ant colonies are highly "distributed" biological societies, much like the world-wide web. They can't be killed with a BB or a pressure hose; even pouring flaming gasoline on an ant hill won't work

Dems Embrace the Far Left and Lose America by Bobby Eberle

The results of the 2006 elections had Democrats singing in the streets, but now comes the real test. Do the Democrats stand up for what is right or do they embrace failure and far left rhetoric? As Americans are seeing this week, the Democrats have sunk to new lows and would rather snuggle up next to MoveOn.org than take a stand for decency.

As Gen. David Petraeus gave his testimony on Capitol Hill regarding the progress in Iraq, the left wing fringe group MoveOn.org ran a full page ad in the New York Times which accused the general of "cooking the books for the White House." Leading Democrats joined in, with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid saying, "He's made a number of statements over the years that have not proven to be factual." MoveOn.org and these Democrats are banking so heavily on failure in Iraq to deliver them more ballot success that they are now calling an honorable military man a liar before he even spoke a word.

This One Takes the Prize :: Gates of Vienna

Brussels demo This picture may win the Fascist Boot prize for the Brussels 9/11 demonstration.

Here, the police are openly brutalizing a member of the EU parliament. The Baron thinks this poor guy is probably Frank Vanhecke, president of Vlaams Belang, though he would welcome correction from anyone who is sure of the man’s identity…
…oh, at this point of course, one is supposed to mention Vlaams Belang as the mandatory “extreme right wing” party. Remember the rules: the Left are activists and the Right are extremists. It’s from the international MSM-journalism style book.

Press, Lies, and Videotape By Lisa Fabrizio

So he's back, I suppose; Osama bin Laden. And boy, do we need him for many reasons, not the least being that he helps us draw some interesting comparisons. Many have pointed out the similarity between bin Laden's comments and those of certain members of the Democratic left, but there's more to it than mere words. They have a commonality as regards methodology as well.

While it's true that the words of the head of al Qaeda read like a socialist manifesto -- dire warnings regarding global warming, the evils of corporate interests and the dreary invocation of the Vietnam War -- the most amazing similarity is bin Laden's near-total disregard for the truth combined with an almost eerie confidence that this will be ignored by America's leftist media.

Why the Antiwar Democrats Will Retreat By Patrick Buchanan

In November 2006, Republicans were voted out of power in the Congress and Democrats installed to bring an end to U.S. involvement in the war in Iraq.

The war had been going on as long as America's war on Nazi Germany. No end was in sight. U.S. casualties and costs were rising. Bush's approval rating had sunk to record lows.

The day after the GOP rout, Bush cashiered his war minister, Donald Rumsfeld. In December, the Iraq Study Group, chaired by Bush I Secretary of State James Baker, released its report.

Vandals at the Wall by Michelle Oddis

Last Friday a “light, oily substance” was sprayed on 50 to 60 feet of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall panels and paving stones in an act of apparent vandalism. All this week, Washington was consumed with the Iraq reports by Gen. David Petraeus and Amb. Ryan Crocker. This weekend, ANSWER and a number of other anti-war groups are planning big demonstrations in Washington. Some veterans groups are planning to parallel the demostrations with lines of volunteers blocking access to the Vietnam Wall and other memorials they believe may be targeted for defacment. The assumption that Friday’s discovery was an act of vandalism connected with the demonstrations seems a logical conclusion.

The World's Wealthiest Poor By Bill Steigerwald

Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation is a national authority on poverty and the U.S. welfare system. Specializing in welfare reform and family breakdown, Rector has done extensive research on the economic and social costs of welfare.

With presidential candidates of a certain hue decrying the suffering of the 37 million Americans who have been officially classified as poor by the U.S. Census Bureau, we thought we'd ask Rector if these poor people are really as poverty-stricken as we have been led to believe. I talked to the author of “America's Failed $5.4 Trillion War on Poverty” Thursday, Sept. 6, by telephone from his office in Washington:

Islamic Terrorists Posing as Christians: Abusing Faith, Churches By Dr. Deborah Schurman-Kauflin

Radical Islamic terror groups are clever. They learn about their enemies and work hard to infiltrate the governments, law enforcement, military, education, and other organizations within the enemy territory. Their goal is the destruction of infidels, and as such, they will do anything necessary to facilitate their ultimate success.

Capital of the EUSSR By Paul Belien

I just returned home from the anti-Islamization demonstration in Brussels. The Belgian police beat up the peaceful demonstrators in what even the Belgian public television call "an extremely violent fashion." Here are some video images. The grey-haired man whom we see being attacked by the police first is Luk Van Nieuwenhuysen, the Vice-President of the Flemish Parliament. Shortly afterwards we see the police maltreating Frank Vanhecke, a member of the European Parliament and the party leader of the Vlaams Belang. We see how he is handcuffed and pushed into a police bus. Afterwards we also see the police "taking care" of Filip Dewinter, the VB group leader in the Flemish Parliament. We see how his arm gets caught between the closing doors of the bus. An Italian MEP and a French MEP were also arrested. The demonstrators were kept in cells for seven hours and released this evening.

America's Crash Course On Islam By Daniel Pipes

How goes the "war on terror"? One would think that the absence of a successful dramatic terrorist operation against Westerners since the London bombings in July 2005 would be heartening. But an atmosphere of gloom predominates. A recent much-publicized Foreign Policy magazine poll of 108 American specialists, myself included, found merely 6% who agreed that "The United States is winning the war on terror." A whopping 84% disagreed.

This negativism reflects twin realities: Islamism (outside Iran) is waxing everywhere, while the civilized world is making profound mistakes — blaming itself for Muslim hatred, underestimating and appeasing the enemy. Several trends:

At Last a Small-Government Conservative? By Michael Tanner

With his long awaited entry into the presidential campaign, former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson says that he will base his campaign on the "first principles" of "individual freedom and limited government." If he follows through, he will have an opportunity to position himself as the only small-government conservative in the race.

As I wrote in my book, Leviathan on the Right, Republicans have been increasingly split between traditional small-government conservatives in the Reagan and Goldwater molds and a new breed of big-government conservatives who believe in using an activist government to achieve conservative ends -- even if it means increasing the size, cost, and power of government in the process.

Diversity's Dark Side By John Luik

For at least the last twenty years the cultural and political elites of the United States have championed the cause of multiculturalism by claiming that diversity was something that made all of us better. Little effort was ever made to define precisely just what was meant by diversity, difference or most crucially "better." Nor was there any significant research that provided empirical support for the claim that multiculturalism and diversity translated into better people, better communities, better organizations and businesses or a better country.

But now a considerable amount of solid evidence about multiculturalism is in, and it suggests that far from something positive, it is a corroding and corrupting influence on just about everything that it comes in contact with, from social capital, trust, and community spirit to altruism, volunteering, friendship and even happiness.

World War IV with the Wrong Rosie :: Pajamas Media

    Rosie_Wrong_Riveter_300.jpg

Pajamas Media CEO Roger L. Simon reviews Norman Podhoretz’s World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism, published on the sixth anniversary of 9/11.

“You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”
I kept thinking of that line – often attributed to Trotsky - when reading World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism, Norman Podhoretz’s analysis of the evolution of our current situation.

Not interested, indeed. What normal person would be? Like a lot of people, I was hoping Francis Fukuyama was right back in 1992 when he proffered the “End of History.” No such luck.

Indoctrination in the Classroom By Mark Bauerlein

"Reclaim Your Rights as a Liberal Educator." That's the title of a short essay in this month's Academe, organ of the American Association of University Professors. The phrase has all the imagination of a slogan unfurled at countless marches, but what it lacks in wit it makes up for in fortitude of the uniquely academic kind. Author Julie Kilmer, women's studies and religion professor at Olivet College, sounds the standard "they're-out-to-get-us" call and rallies her brethren to take back the classroom. We have, too, a vicious aggressor: conservative student groups that confront professors of perceived liberal bias, and they form a national network out to undermine the faculty, who come off as vulnerable and innocent professionals. While the professors uphold "freedom of inquiry to examine the worth of controversial ideas" and "teach college students to use analytical thinking in the development of new ideas," groups such as Students for Academic Freedom do their best to subvert the process. Worst of all, they "encourage students to bring complaints against faculty to administrators." To Kilmer, they are no better than spies, and they prompt her to wonder, "Each time a student is resistant to feminist theories and ideas, should I ask if he or she has been placed in my class to question my teaching? How is my teaching affected if I enter the classroom each day asking, 'Is today the day I will be called to the president's office?"

Hillary's Moral Sense And Leader Status Are Made in China By Gabriel Garnica

Hillary has often boasted that she is the only Democratic hopeful who has proven that she can overcome obstacles and knows how to beat conservatives. What has gone from increasingly obvious to pathetically consistent, however, is the reality that Hillary’s success is more the result of media support, hypocrisy and selectivity in covering her litany of unscrupulous and suspicious campaign contributions and activities.

NYT: Hillary Blames Lou Dobbs, Rush Limbaugh for Anti-Latino Demagoguery By Tim Graham

In Monday's New York Times, reporter Patrick Healy described how Democrats pandered to a Latino audience during their debate on the Spanish-language channel Univision (although candidates spoke in English): "They expressed concerns that Republicans were enabling anti-immigrant feelings and even racist attitudes, or at least not taking a tougher stand against them." Hillary Clinton blamed media people for those anti-Latino and even racist attitudes:

Mrs. Clinton said legislative proposals to overhaul the immigration system, which all the Democrats at the debate endorsed, had been used by Republicans and some in the news media to "bash immigrants" and engage in demagoguery. Later, Mrs. Clinton added: "There are many in the political and frankly in the broadcast world today who take a particular aim at our Latino population. I think it’s very destructive." A spokesman for Mrs. Clinton said after the debate that she was referring to the CNN anchor Lou Dobbs and the radio host Rush Limbaugh, among others.

Petraeus Reports: Part II by Jed Babbin

Yesterday the House committees -- with nearly one hundred members in attendance --  failed to notice what may be the most compelling proof that the counterinsurgency strategy General David Petraeus is implementing is succeeding.

Along with several other military correspondents, I spoke to Gen. Petraeus this morning, as he was driving up to testify in the Senate.  The question I raised was about the trend in terrorist attacks that may have been broken by the counterinsurgency.

Senate votes to ban Mexican trucks By SUZANNE GAMBOA, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Senate voted Tuesday to ban Mexican trucks from U.S. roadways, rekindling a more than decade-old trade dispute with Mexico.

By a 74-24 vote, the Senate approved a proposal by Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., prohibiting the Transportation Department from spending money on a North American Free Trade Agreement pilot program giving Mexican trucks greater access to U.S. highways.

The proposal is part of a $106 billion transportation and housing spending bill that the Senate hopes to vote on later this week. The House approved a similar provision to Dorgan's in July as part of its version of the transportation spending bill.

The Talibanization of Britain By Adrian Morgan

In the West, the Saudi ideology of Wahabbism is well known for its extremism and intolerance. Less well known is the ideology known as Deobandi. This ideology is equally insidious, equally extremist, for the Deobandi ideology is the ideology of the Taliban. Before taking power in Aghanistan, Mullah Omar and most of the leaders of the Afghan Taliban were educated at the Darul Uloom Haqqania madrassa in North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan. The Haqqania madrassa teaches the Deobandi form of Islam. Its head cleric, Sami ul Haq, is also a member of the MMA – the Islamist opposition in Pakistan's parliament. He has said of his former students: "I was pleased they became the rulers of Afghanistan. They restored law and order there. They respected human rights. They respected women's rights. They completely eliminated heroin and drug use."

Petraeus the Communicator By Max Boot

There were no real surprises on Capitol Hill when General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker showed up yesterday to present their reports. This was due, in large part, to the success that Petraeus had in laying the groundwork for their much-anticipated visit. He is an unusually open military commander who is not suspicious of journalists or legislators or scholars intruding in his “battlespace.” In fact he does everything possible to facilitate such visits. (I am one of many who is grateful to him for his hospitality.)
