More Viable Defense for an Indicted Liberal: Insanity or Stupidity?

Satire By John W. Lillpop

Liberal radio talk-show host Bernie Ward was indicted on charges that he used the Internet to secure and distribute child pornography. These are very serious charges, even for a former Catholic priest in San Francisco.

Ward's legal team is rolling out a very creative defense strategy: Rather than denying that Ward dabbled in Kiddy Porn, his attorneys claim that Ward committed his felonies while doing research for a book he was writing on the subject of hypocrisy.

Dissenters Are Left High And Dry In Bali By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

While global warming alarmists revel in self-importance at their 11-day forum in Bali, dissenting scientists are being shut out and credible charges are leveled that the U.N. has doctored sea-level data.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was wise — is this possible? — to choose the tropical sun of the Indonesian resort island for its 11-day conference to cook up more nonsense about global warming and reach yet another predetermined conclusion.

Not that the IPCC would ever travel to Grand Forks, where record low temperatures and historic snowfalls are enough to annoy even the most rugged North Dakotans. But the alarmists have been known to meet in places where conditions make them look silly.

Rep. Meeks' Cozy Relationship with Terror-Linked Organization By Patrick Poole

Why is a powerful congressman trying to pave the way for terror-linked speakers to appear on Capitol Hill?

That’s the question that comes to mind following the abrupt cancellation of the Muslim Mobilization Conference by the US House of Representatives Sergeant-at-Arms. The event, originally scheduled for August 11, would have taken place in the Cannon House Building Caucus Room had it not been for the last minute discovery of the terror-linked speakers that the DC-based Peace and Justice Foundation had invited to participate.

However the organization is claiming that Congressman Gregory Meeks, who initially helped organize the event, is actively working with them to reschedule, notwithstanding the organization’s public defense of several global terrorist organizations and two notorious cop killers. And a review of the Peace and Justice Foundation’s corporate documents shows that the group has been operating illegally for nearly a decade without any accountability whatsoever for funds it has raised for a wide variety of extremist causes.

China and Climate Change - By Gordon G. Chang

Yesterday, at the 190-nation UN Climate Change Conference in Bali, China suggested that Americans live more modestly. “I just wonder whether it’s fair to ask developing countries like China to take on binding targets,” said Su Wei, a member of Beijing’s delegation, referring to mandatory caps on emissions of greenhouse gases. “I think there is much room for the United States to think whether it’s possible to change lifestyle and consumption patterns in order to contribute to the protection of the global climate.”

Isn’t the global climate everyone’s responsibility? This year, China, which contains twenty of the world’s thirty dirtiest cities, has probably emitted more carbon and other heat-trapping gases than any other country. Yet the Chinese argue that their per-capita emissions are only a sixth of America’s and that they have been poisoning the atmosphere for only two decades while the United States and Europe have been at it for two centuries.

At Last, the Final Word on Joe McCarthy By William Rusher

"History," Napoleon remarked, "is a lie agreed upon." This bit of wisdom is superbly illustrated by the conventional wisdom concerning the Communist Party of the United States of America.

We are supposed to believe that the CPUSA was never more than an insignificant flea on the American body politic, and that the charges concerning its alleged influence and activities in the 1930s and 1940s were simply wild exaggerations concocted by cynical politicians -- most notably Sen. Joseph McCarthy, R-Wis., McCarthy himself was duly censured by the Senate in 1954, and America has slowly drifted back to sleep on the subject.

Mexico Demands US Kow-Tow :: Rhymes With Right

Mexican President Pendejo Felipe Calderon Cabron has demanded that US presidential candidates limit themselves to Mexican government-approved statements on immigration and that the United States Congress comply with conditions set by Mexico for receiving foreign aid from the United States.

President Felipe Calderon accused U.S. presidential candidates yesterday of anti-Mexican posturing and warned the U.S. Congress not to impose conditions on an anti-drug aid package.

“The only theme in the (U.S.) electoral campaign is to compete to see who can be the most swaggering, macho and anti-Mexican,” Calderon told a local radio station, Enfoque. He did not name any candidate or party.

“I find the greatest sensitivity in the U.S. government, some in Congress,” Calderon said, but added that there was “a total lack of understanding and aggravation, hostility toward Mexico” among Americans in general.

ACLU's War On U.S. Immigration Law By Nicholas Stix

While President George W. And every time they have done so, the ACLU has been there to fight them, on behalf of the criminals invading America.

A study of the tactics of local ACLU chapters across the country and the national ACLU reveals a distinct, coordinated strategy of six components:

Hillary as Communist By Ted Baiamonte

Sadly, it is considered impolite and even ignorant to call Hillary and the Democrats, communists, but, sadly, if not tragically, it makes good sense. You might say too, if you like to split hairs a little, that she is a socialist since she is openly supporting what is commonly referred to as socialized medicine. Neither she nor the MSN (main stream media) will dispute the label, or explain why, if the arguments apply to medicine, they don't apply equally to socializing the entire economy. In fact, it's not mentioned at all for one simple reason: the Democrats and the MSM have done an excellent job of undermining the basic American value of freedom, from gov't.

Refuting Noam Chomsky on the Middle East by Aaron Epelbaum

Noam Chomsky distorts what happened in the Arab-Israeli conflict. According to Chomsky, it’s the poor Palestinians are committing terrorist attacks fighting for their land while America and Israel are committing evil and rejecting peaceful solutions.

America, Israel and the PLO

According to him, while the PLO has been fighting for a two-state settlement, the US and the Israel reject it. It is safe to say that is false. The US and Israel always supported the two-state settlement. The PLO fought to eliminate Israel. In 1974, the PLO made the ten-point program calling for the PLO to accept any Israeli territorial concessions as a step toward their goal of destroying Israel. Chomsky points to a 1976 UN proposal calling for a two-state settlement.

Misestimating Iran's Nuclear Strategies By Dr. Walid Phares

The release to the US Congress of the NIE Iranian threat report has unleashed a wave of discussions streaming directly into the debate about the war on terror. From there, obviously, the ripple effects of the findings – plus their politicization – are feeding the critics of the War in Iraq; but more importantly, impacting both the friends and the foes of the United States, including principally the Iranian regime.

Basically, Americans and their allies are faced with a new assertion, created by this intelligence estimate, that the decision makers in Tehran had already abandoned their nuclear military strategy as of 2003; and hence, the US and its coalition would be at fault if it engaged in any military action against targets inside Iran. Specifically, due to American intelligence conclusions, the public - both domestic and international - are being led to believe that in the fall of 2003, the Iranian leadership had decided to stop its process of building an atomic weapon; and that further, today, in the fall of 2007, there isn’t an Iranian nuclear threat to America, to the region and to the international community.

Stupid Intelligence By Alan M. Dershowitz

The recent national intelligence estimate that concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 is just about the stupidest intelligence assessment I have ever read. It falls hook, line and sinker for a transparent bait and switch tactic employed not only by Iran, but by several other nuclear powers in the past.

The tactic is obvious and well-known to all intelligence officials with an IQ above room temperature. It goes like this: There are two tracks to making nuclear weapons: One is to conduct research and develop technology directly related to military use. That is what the United States did when it developed the atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project. The second track is to develop nuclear technology for civilian use and then to use the civilian technology for military purposes.

United States: State Sponsor of Judeophobia by Pamela Geller

Last week, a line was crossed. A terrible line was crossed at Annapolis. With the world looking on, the President of the United States sponsored Judeophobia. Jew-hatred was okay, understandable even.

Under the auspices of a global "peace" conference, the White House sanctioned Jew-hatred. The Jew is contemptible, inferior, ignorant, politically and socially disenfranchised: separate entrance ways, service entrances for the Jews, refusal to touch or shake hands with a Jew, refusal of audience members to wear the translation earphones when Ehud Olmert spoke.

"Saud Al-Faisel's ears, underneath his red keffiyah, were left bare. And no, it wasn't because he understood Hebrew. It was the Saudi method of demonstrating their relationship to the State of Israel. Even as the Israeli Prime Minister was greeting him and speaking of peace, they were refusing to listen. There's much to admire about Mitt Romney's faith speech. And there are some statements that require scrutiny and sober and reflective discernment.

As he stated, one of the forces that should hold our country together is the commitment to religious liberty. I agree. That means one's faith should be no barrier to the right to vote, the right to run for office, nor the right to hold office.

It does not mean, however, that a candidate's faith should not be weighed as a very significant factor for voters making their choices. As Romney himself pointed out, our faith fundamentally shapes everything in which we believe. It is the lens through which we view the world. It is the glass through which we perceive truth. It is the prism that shapes our deepest values and convictions.

On Wednesday December 5th, 2007 Brian Ross of ABC’s Good Morning America stood in front of a graphic that stated “Huckabee’s Pardon” and went on to recount the story of rapist Wayne Dumond who was released from prison while Mike Huckabee was the Governor of Arkansas. After his release, the criminal apparently started back up where he left off, and went on to rape and murder at least one other woman. After recounting the crimes of Dumond, and the outcry of past victims about the violence this monster was capable of, Ross concluded the story with the words “but Mike Huckabee went ahead anyway.”

Upwards of 40 million people subsequently lost their lives in the horrific, global conflagration that ensued. Many of them died and untold millions of others lost their homes, their livelihoods, and even their countries because Churchill’s warnings were not heeded at a time when the danger could have been dispatched with relative ease.

The transparent intellectual fraud that is Darwinism by Lawrence Auster

As I have illustrated over and over, liberals admire and keep making appeals to values that liberalism formally excludes as discriminatory and non-egalitarian, such as family, patriotism, intelligence, and beauty. The reason liberals keep making these obvious exceptions to their own liberalism is that liberals are human beings, and human beings are so constituted that, whatever their formal ideology, they find life unendurable without such values as family, patriotism, intelligence, and beauty.

In much the same way, Darwinists keep injecting into the Darwinian "story line" the very elements that the Darwinian theory of evolution by random mutation and natural selection formally excludes: intention, purpose, teleology. The reason Darwinists keep making these obvious exceptions to their own Darwinism is that Darwinists are human beings, and human beings are so constituted that they cannot live, they cannot make sense of the world, without a notion of purpose.

The White Man’s Burden in the Twenty-First Century By Phyllis Chesler

Although I knew and admired the late, great Dr. Margaret Mead and other pioneer-anthropologists, (Ruby Rohrlich and Eleanor “Happy” Leacock for starters), my ardor for anthropology gradually dimmed as the discipline became increasingly politicized. Ironically, anthropologists have judged western culture harshly and moralistically as “sexist, racist, class-ist, and anti-gay” — but have refused to judge Third World cultures even slightly by these same standards. Indeed, what began as a valiant attempt to understand the “Other” and the ravages of both poverty and oppression has degenerated into a valorization of barbarism and a demonization of any western attempts to either intervene or to introduce any principles of universal rights.

Immigration Issue Reveals Arrogance of the “Ruling Class” By Christopher Adamo

The desire for a permanent “underclass” of uneducated and pliable illegal immigrants is merely an extension of the ruling class' belief that the rest of America is, in reality, not much different.

Intermixed with Hillary Clinton’s many disparate stances on illegal immigration are the occasional, very revealing statements that say far more about her character in general than about her transient and flexible beliefs. In one recent statement, she expressed her surprise at the vehemence of real America in its opposition to the massive invasion of illegals.

According to Hillary, such fiery opposition was nonexistent only seven or eight years ago which, incidentally was when she and her husband occupied the White House. So what brought about this change? Without missing a beat, she postulated that the reason is, of course, the worsening economy under President Bush, which has made Americans, when looking for jobs, feel competitive pressure from those who breached the border.

Road to Bali By Peter Foster :: Financial Post

The fate of the Earth hangs in the balance in Bali, but the issue is not whether humanity will succumb to a "climate crisis," or how the international community might craft a successor to the tattered Kyoto Accord (Let's call it KyoTwo). The real theme of this United Nations gabfest -- like that of its 12 predecessors, and of the hundreds, if not thousands, of related meetings --is whether globalization and trade liberalization will be allowed to continue, with a corresponding increase in wealth, health and welfare, or whether the authoritarian enemies of freedom (who rarely if ever recognize themselves as such) will succeed in using environmental hysteria to undermine capitalism and increase their Majesterium. Any successor to Kyoto will be rooted in hobbling rich economies, increasing the poor world's resentment, unleashing environmental trade warfare, and blanketing the globe with rules and regulations that benefit only rulers and regulators. Bali is not about climate; it symbolizes the continued assault on freedom by those who seek -- or pander to -- political power under the guise of concern for humanity.

And rarely have vehement critics of the "intelligence community" on issues such as Iraq's weapons of mass destruction reversed themselves so quickly.

All this shows that we not only have a problem interpreting what the mullahs in Tehran are up to, but also a more fundamental problem: Too much of the intelligence community is engaging in policy formulation rather than "intelligence" analysis, and too many in Congress and the media are happy about it. President Bush may not be able to repair his Iran policy (which was not rigorous enough to begin with) in his last year, but he would leave a lasting legacy by returning the intelligence world to its proper function.

Fitzgerald: Should we take the NIE report on faith? :: Jihad Watch

Without revealing its sources, those who compiled the NIE have to be taken on faith. Should we? Is their record one of such amazing accuracy, displaying such an uncanny understanding of, inter alios, Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and General Musharraf? Have the compilers of the NIE shown they comprehend the Ikhwan in Egypt, or why Libya "gave up" its nuclear project, or what Bashir in Khartoum plans to do to keep holding off any effective intervention in Darfur?

Do you have confidence that those in our intelligence services comprehend the meaning, and menace, of Islam, as fifty years ago Western intelligence services understood the meaning, and menace, of the Soviet state, and Soviet Communism? But in those days there was a better class of agent, one well-versed in Communism and in the history of the Soviet Union. He was aided by many refugees from the Soviet Union and Soviet-dominated Eastern Europe, as well as by former Communists in the West (see The God That Failed) and defectors from the Soviet security services, whether those services were called the Cheka, or the NKVD, or the KGB.

If Hill and Bill Recapture White House, Who Will Have Priority?

Satire By John W. Lillpop

If, perish the thought, Hillary Clinton is elected president of these here United States of America AND does not divorce Slick Willie before January 20, 2009, America will be forced to confront several unprecedented dilemmas.

To begin with, Slick would be the first former president to re-occupy the White House, full time, as a member of the first family, even if he were to do so by skating in on the skirt of Hillary.

Intellectual Property Rights Stripped to Stop Global Warming? By Noel Sheppard

Capitalist democracies around the world should be very concerned about the level of socialism being discussed at the United Nations' climate change meeting in Bali.

Not only are international hands being extended to collect funds from countries like the United States in order to help poorer nations deal with a problem that might actually be disappearing since global temperatures peaked in 1998, but climate change is also being used as a means of stripping intellectual property rights from companies that have created new more eco-friendly energy technologies.

New York Times Hopes For SCOTUS Gun Grab By: Warner Todd Houston

The “paper of record” once again makes like a broken record with another prosaic call to take away guns from the average American. The New York Times again displays its complete disregard of the Constitution in an editorial titled, “The Court and the Second Amendment”, claiming our founding law is out of date and doesn’t “confront modern-day reality.” In another editorial filled with extreme language, untrue definitions and arrogance, and cementing its reputation against self-defense and American principles, the Times addressed the recent decision by the Supreme Court to soon take on the DC Gun banning reversal case. Hitting all its best low notes and filled with propaganda laced verbiage, the Times again made the case that you, Mr. and Mrs. America, are too stupid and filled with bloodlust to be trusted with a firearm… quite despite that musty, stupid old, out of date Constitution thingie.

In parallel, numerous reports of Chinese espionage efforts against the US and our interests have also been released. More recently it was revealed that US intelligence assessments on Chinese issues have consistently fallen short, to the detriment of US readiness against the potential threats China may pose. Is a confrontation with China imminent or are there other factors we need to consider when assessing this situation?

Survival: Stop Iran's Nuclear Weapons by Grant Swank

Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad believes in the Second Coming of the Iranian Messiah. The Messiah will appear when the globe is in utter chaos. Spell “chaos” as meaning “nuclear blow up.”

Add to that the egocentric eccentric personality of Ahmadinejad. Add to that his delight in demanding center stage daily worldwide.

That is why it is imperative for the free nations’ politic to translate their politic parlance into theological language. I don’t they know how to do that. They are consumed with political vernacular and not versed in theology of a killing cult. In that is their weakness.

NIE Report is Propaganda Victory for Iran By Robert Tracinski

The Islamic Republic of Iran has just achieved a major victory in its battle for dominance of the Middle East. America's military might in the region has largely been neutralized as a threat to Tehran, buying the regime at least a few years' reprieve from threats of US air strikes, and our diplomatic effort to choke off the Iranian economy with economic sanctions has also, in all likelihood, just collapsed.

All of this has been achieved merely through a propaganda victory in the American media--and, most disturbingly, this victory has been delivered to Iran by officials at the top levels of our own intelligence agencies.

Distorting Plato By Thomas Brewton

The “common good,” Democrats’ current campaigning slogan, is a new name for the same old attack upon the moral virtues championed by Plato and Aristotle.

Academic propagandists of atheistic materialism have warped Plato’s dialogues into a formulaic skepticism aimed at discrediting Western civilization’s Judeo-Christian heritage.

A couple of illustrative examples:

A classic that used to be on most college reading lists illustrates the negative aspects of public opinion, the hook upon which liberals hang their demand for elimination of the electoral college and selection of the President solely by popular vote.

Plato’s short dialog, The Apology, recounts Socrates’ address to the Athenian assembly that was to decide whether his fate was to be death or exile. The democratic assembly, 501 Athenians chosen randomly by lot, and thus a good representation of public opinion, had already convicted Socrates of talking to young people in ways said to be subversive to the Athenian city-state.

Betrayal or Deception: The Case of the NIE Report By Mark Silverberg

They must be celebrating in Tehran. On December 3rd, and in direct opposition to the conclusions drawn from Israeli intelligence sources, a National Intelligence Estimate concluded that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 with no evidence to suggest it had re-started it. "Tehran at a minimum is keeping open the option to develop nuclear weapons," says the summary's second sentence while expressing only "moderate confidence" that Tehran has not re-started the military program. The report says "with high confidence" that Iran did have a secret nuclear weapons program and that it stopped only after it got caught and was threatened with international punishment. Presenting the NIE Report, Bush’s national security adviser Stephen Hadley said: “The estimate offers ground for hope that the problem can be solved diplomatically without the use of force, as the administration has being trying to do.” The President followed up with calls to world leaders and held a White House news conference to argue that the new National Intelligence Estimate only reinforces the need for more diplomatic pressure against Iran. Bombing Iran, it seems, is now off the table.

Shariah's Trojan Horse By Frank J. Gaffney Jr.

Suddenly, a new national debate is beginning about the national security, economic and other implications of Persian Gulf potentates using their petrodollars to buy up strategic American assets.

Most recently, the emir of Dubai's purchase at fire-sale prices of 4.9 percent of the largest U.S. bank, Citigroup, caused a level of unease not seen since he tried to buy his way into many U.S. port facilities.

Almost completely unremarked thus far has been a parallel — and in many ways far more insidious — effort to penetrate, influence and dominate America's capital markets: so-called "Shariah finance." Some estimates suggest an amount nearing $1 trillion is now being invested around the world under this rubric. If trends continue, all other things being equal, such funds may grow to many times that amount within a few years.

John Bolton debunks the NIE, suggests that long-time Bush critics politicized it :: Hot Air

If you’d like to have your confidence in the CIA and in National Estimates in particular shattered, go read this:

In 1986 I was working for the Kissinger Commission on Central America and as such I was allowed to see the NIEs on all the relevant countries in the circum-Caribbean. I vividly recall the one on Mexico. Among other things it claimed that the foreign minister of that country was an embittered leftist married to a Soviet citizen. As it happens, I knew the son of the couple (he has since become foreign minister of Mexico in his own right) and I knew for a fact that his mother was not a Soviet citizen. Far from it. She was a nice Jewish lady who lived in New York and grew up in Brooklyn. It is, I suppose, possible that she was brought to the US in the 1920s from the Soviet Union–at age 3. But there is a crucial difference between that and what was in the NIE. The implications for our foreign policy were very different.

It's not difficult to understand the logic behind that stance.

Since opposition to the war in Iraq is an integral, perhaps central component of their foreign policy, it's necessary to reject and/or ignore the existence of an ideology based upon an interpretation of Islam, which looms as a major challenge to national security, because acceptance thereof would constitute a contradiction of embarrassing proportions.

The authors of the NIE assess “with high confidence” that Iran “halted its nuclear weapons program” in 2003 — and that’s about all you’re likely to hear from administration critics and the mainstream media. Why We Should Oppose an Independent Kosovo By Fjordman

Hans Rustad runs Document.no, the largest independent weblog in my country. A recent post there contained criticism of me, and I have already answered some of it. However, Mr. Rustad also claimed that I support a revisionist view of the Balkan wars of the 1990s which is "just as factually wrong, immoral and politically dangerous as David Irving's Holocaust revisionism." I consider that statement to be too awful to ignore, and decided to write a reply in English.

I have said repeatedly that I believe the Balkan wars were far more complex than we are led to believe by the political establishment, and I fear that we out of ideological blindness have come to support some pretty dangerous Muslim forces. I respect Mr. Rustad for exposing the bias against Israelis in the mainstream media, and I am sad to see that he accepts uncritically a similar bias against the Serbs. My point is that you cannot understand recent history in the Balkans without taking the previous seven centuries of Islamic oppression into account.

Liberals Insert ‘Hate Crimes’ Into Defense Bill

This CONSERVATIVE ALERT is a special message from RightMarch.com:

Liberals Insert ‘Hate Crimes’ Into Defense Bill -- Call Now To Demand They Remove This Provision:

1-202-224-3121

ALERT: Liberals on Capitol Hill are at it again.

This time, they’re firing with both barrels: holding up much-needed funding for our troops, AND pushing pro-homosexual “hate crimes” legislation… all at the same time!

Led by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), proponents of the pro-gay provision have stalled the 2008 Defense Authorization Act, which was supposed to be passed by October 1st. They know that this bill is a “must-pass” bill, so if they can get their provision passed along with it, they can finally achieve their goal of punishing the “thought crimes” of pastors, Christians, and supporters of traditional values in America.

We MUST fight to get this provision REMOVED from this bill -- but we have to do it TODAY!

TAKE ACTION: To force this contentious legislation into the Defense Authorization conference report is a disservice to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines on the front lines in this war against terror. This is just another example of how the liberal Democrat majority is playing politics with our military and the war against terror.

Along with attempts to micromanage the war on terror by putting timelines and other demands in the Iraq War supplemental, the liberals are more interested in scoring political points than producing legislation that helps our troops and having it signed by the President. Please, call as many as you can of the Senate and House members of the Defense Appropriations conference committee listed below, and urge them to remove the “Hate Crimes” provision in the Defense spending bill:

The Great Intelligence Scam By Michael Ledeen

Yesterday’s big story was the Intelligence Community’s “Estimate,” according to which Iran unilaterally and secretly suspended its covert nuclear weapons program back in 2003, and hasn’t resumed it to date. We don’t know the sources and methods that underly this analysis, and it may well be that we have acquired some totally convincing evidence that justifies the astonishing conclusions of the IC’s assessment. But the “Estimate” itself is internally unconvincing–different agencies, notably the National Intelligence Council and the Department of Energy, are not convinced we have the full picture, and argue that we may not know whether the “halt” on which the IC hangs its analytical hat applies to Iran’s “entire nuclear weapons program.”

In other words, we seem to know that something was halted, but we don’t know if that’s the whole story. In Rumsfeld’s famous words, we don’t know what we don’t know.

The Key Question about the NIE's Key Judgment By Herbert E. Meyer

In the Intelligence business, you get paid for just one thing: to be right.

So here's the key question about the Key Judgment of the National Intelligence Council's new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran's nuclear intentions and capabilities: Is this judgment supported by the evidence?

The judgment that's stirring up all the controversy -- and it's a real shocker -- comes in the very first sentence: We judge with high confidence that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program.  The judgment is astonishing for two reasons.  First, it flies in the face of virtually everything we know - or thought we knew -- about the Iranian regime, its capabilities and its intentions.  Second, If the new Key Judgment is correct it means that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program fully two years before publication of the National Intelligence Council's 2005 Estimate on this same subject, which concluded "with high confidence" that Iran "currently is determined to develop nuclear weapons."

My first impression was to consider: «Is this Obama wagging the celebrity or Winfrey wagging the candidate?» Although Oprah Winfrey's public relations schema allows for far more temporal latitude than someone running for President, and despite her already being able to retire hundreds of times over, her enterprises do live and die by public opinion. To be on every side, to be everything, to be nothing long;
To pervert truth, to ride it for a purpose,

However, within that general truth, there is a specific reality which alone is virtually certain to doom her candidacy: Hillary Clinton has played politics with the war in Iraq.

Here are a few damning details sure to dry up any good will millions may have for her:

Information Warfare, CNN & Hillary By Lance Fairchok

“It is a free press...There are laws to protect the freedom of the press's speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press.” – Mark Twain

One of the fundamental objectives of information warfare is to gain dominance of the information environment, to shape it in such a way that you control the messages your target audience sees.  It also means pushing messages that undercut an opponent’s advantage wherever and whenever possible. Getting the message out is often the most difficult task. Using the press and the media, both print and broadcast are the most efficient and effective. Our military stresses that the truth is the best message. In Iraq, this means showing the Iraqis that Al Qaeda is their enemy; that democracy will bring prosperity and security, and of course pointing out the true nature of Islamic Fundamentalist terrorism. In domestic American politics, it is not that simple.

I appear to have become a Christo-fascist By Bruce Walker

Two recent articles in American Thinker have earned me an unexpected honor: the Christophobic Left calls me a "Christo-fascist." Why? My articles, grounded upon books I own and which were written in the 1930s and early 1940s, showed conclusively that: (1) Most Germans, before Hitler, had abandoned Christianity - which is why Hitler was able to gain power, (2) The Nazis loathed with particular passion Christianity, and (3) The only people in Germany who openly opposed the Nazi regime on moral grounds - when they could have been silent and lived - were devout Christians.

Both articles were precisely referenced. I gave the names of the books, the dates of publication and the names of the authors. The virtue of old books is that they cannot lie. When I quote >from a book in front of me now, Blackmail or War by Genevieve Tabouis, published by Penguin Books in 1938, and when I refer readers (as I do here now) to page 207, where Tabouis speaks of Catholic opposition to the Nazi regime, including mass protests in 1937 and where Tablouis writes “The Protestant opposition is equally staunch, in spite of wholesale arrests of clergy by the agents of the Gestapo,” honest critics can check see if those references are valid (I welcome that) but Tablouis wrote what she wrote, then that is an immutable historical fact – even if a critic believes in 2007 that what Tablouis wrote in 1938 was mistaken.

In Russia, a Landslide for Tyranny By Alex Alexiev

It was perhaps inevitable that Russia’s tortuous post-Communist experiment in democracy would grind to a halt, but it is more than a bit ironic that it would do so not in a spasm of violence but through a rigged ballot box. Regardless, Putin’s elections have put paid to democracy, and authoritarian rule – or worse – is what the country is facing. And judging by the extremes to which Putin went in suppressing the opposition and manipulating public opinion and the electoral process prior to the polls, it is almost certainly going to be worse. It is worth reminding ourselves of the Kremlin’s extreme rhetoric and pre-election shenanigans here, because they are a stark reminder of both Russia’s unhappy past and uncertain future. Also, because they didn’t seem to make much sense in an election whose outcome was never in doubt.

Liars And Kidnappers By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

A star-studded, big-budget fantasy film released for Christmastime features religion as the villain. Hollywood is collaborating with a militant atheist British children's book author to indoctrinate children.

"The Golden Compass," which opens this week, stars Nicole Kidman and cost Time Warner's New Line Cinema $180 million to produce, is based on the first installment of Phillip Pullman's children's book trilogy "His Dark Materials."

Sabiha Khan, Include Quran in 'Hate Hurts America' Campaign too by Ayesha Ahmed

Dear Ms Sabiha Khan: In partnership with CAIR You have embarked on a crusade to destroy a very popular national radio host Michael Savage because in your opinion his comment about Islam and CAIR was a hate speech. Here is from the news media:

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA, 11/27/2007) – The newly-formed Hate Hurts America Community and Interfaith Coalition (HHA) today announced that Wal-Mart and AT&T have joined a growing list of advertisers that have stopped advertising or refuse to place their ads on Michael Savage's “Savage Nation” program.
At a news conference today in San Francisco, Calif., coalition members called on advertisers nationwide to stop airing commercials on Savage’s nationally-syndicated program. Coalition representatives also called on other faith-based and community groups to join the national campaign against hate rhetoric on talk radio.

Fitzgerald: The International Islamophobia Conference :: Jihad Watch

It begins Saturday in Istanbul.

What a galere.

There is "Lord" Ahmed, fresh from Khartoum, no doubt expecting to be basking in gratitude from the non-Muslims of Great Britain, for though Al-Bashir had decided to free Gibbons before Ahmed and his traveling companion (a Muslim woman, not married to Lord Ahmed, whom some fellow Believer should not forget to punish for her crime) arrived.

There is the hysterical, ex-nun Karen Armstrong, who needs no introduction, and who believes that Muhammad's essential function was that of Peacemaker. She apparently still has not figured out that she really must reread the Qur'an, and then find out all about the Hadith (and how their "authenticity" has been ranked to Muslim satisfaction) and the Sira -- for Aisha, the Khaybar Oasis, the decapitation of the Banu Qurayza, the murders of Abu Afak and Asma bint Marwan are just of the few of the things that Armstrong forgot to mention, much less to comprehend, in her guide to nothing and nowhere, Islam: A Short History.

Five years of the Condor :: Power Line

The CIA and the State Department have together formed the powerful bureaucratic opposition to the foreign policy of the Bush administration. I tried to sketch out elements of the CIA's war on Bush two years ago in "Three years of the Condor." Yesterday's New York Sun editorial "The Van Diepen demarche" began to fill in the story with respect to the NIE on Iran's nuclear program:

The proper way to read this report is through the lens of the long struggle the professional intelligence community has been waging against the elected civilian administration in Washington. They have opposed President Bush on nearly every major policy decision. They were against the Iraqi National Congress. They were against elections in Iraq. They were against I. Lewis Libby. They are against a tough line on Iran.

The Pathology of A Defeatist By Snooper :: A Newt One Blog

We have all heard of the Pathology of Liberalism and we have also heard that Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. However, I haven't read what the Pathology of a Defeatist is...until now. First, however, we must define what "defeatism" "IS". Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary: acceptance of or resignation to defeat. A defeatist, then, is one which actively prescribes to the "all is lost" and the Trekkish "resistance is futile" mantra. The last I was taught, learned and came to believe, no one likes a loser and, for the most part, no one of substance and character will accept defeat, especially when there is even an outside chance of victory. A loser, is one that gives up too easily in the face of adversity and if the going gets too tough and, they haven't either the mental or physical stamina to maintain.

Manipulation of public perceptions By Dr. Tim Ball

Exploitation of fear by environmental groups was explained well in Crichton’s book, State of Fear. He could also have written a book titled, State of Knowledge. Most people know very little about the natural world and how it works. This lack of knowledge is easily exploited and coupled with fear makes it an even more powerful manipulative tool. The idea that knowledge is power isn’t new, but that is the positive side.  Lack of knowledge is the negative side and makes you very vulnerable. As Derek Bok said, “If you think education is expensive - try ignorance.” Ignorance allows presentation of natural events as unnatural or normal events as abnormal.

The three Arabic words for "peace" by Lawrence Auster

Jack Wheeler has a good article on the requirements of a real peace treaty between Israel and the Arabs. He explains that there are three words for "peace" in Arabic; that only one of them actually means peace; and that the Arabs consistently refuse to use that word when indicating their interest in "peace" with Israel.

Since articles at his site are only for subscribers (a reader sent this one to me), I copy the entire text below. Notice at the end of the piece that Wheeler has not joined the emergent neocon rejection of Giuliani.

SNIPE HUNT FOR PEACE

Karl Marx was an evil fool, but he did utter an occasional witticism--such as history does get repeated: "The first time as tragedy, the second time as farce."

You can imagine his bitter laughter if he had witnessed Condi's Farce in Annapolis this week.

Why Do We Keep Writing About Intelligence? An IQ FAQ By Steve Sailer

After the Washington Post-owned Slate.com ran a three part series by their human sciences correspondent William Saletan pointing out that the denunciations of James Watson were scientifically illiterate, we were wondering here at VDARE.COM if we going to lose our near-monopoly as the professional publication routinely reporting the facts about IQ.

But, then Saletan and his editor Jacob Weisberg apparently lost their nerve and, just like Watson and Larry Summers, violated the cardinal rule: Never apologize for a "gaffe." Showing you're frightened of them just arouses the bloodlust in the jackals.

Can diversity destroy us? By Patrick J. Buchanan

On the Great Seal of the United States, first suggested by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, there was to be emblazoned a new motto: "E Pluribus Unum" – "Out of many, one."

It was in their unity, not their diversity, that the strength of the colonies resided. So Patrick Henry believed, as he declared, "The distinctions between Virginians, Pennsylvanians, New Yorkers and New Englanders are no more. I am not a Virginian, but an American."

National identity must supersede state identity for America to survive.

CAIR called 'turnstile' for terrorist suspects :: WND

As the Council on American-Islamic Relations lobbies Congress to help strike its name from a list of co-conspirators in a federal terror case, WND has learned the Muslim group's ties to terrorism and extremism are far more extensive than first believed.

Although CAIR is a nonprofit organization, it does not disclose complete directories of its staff or advisory boards, and even refuses to make its federal tax filings readily available to the public.

The Allure of Tyranny BY BRET STEPHENS

"It is ultimately a cruel misunderstanding of youth to believe it will find its heart's desire in freedom," says Leo Naphta, the great character of Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain" "Its deepest desire is to obey." On Sunday, voters as far apart as Caracas and Vladivostok took to the polls and put Naphta's theory to a practical test.

In Russia, the result of parliamentary elections was a triumph for President Vladimir Putin: His party, United Russia, won 64% of the vote. Add that to the votes taken by the Kremlin's allies and the Putin tally reaches 80%, with the principal "democratic" opposition represented (at 11.5%) by the Communists. The vote sets up Mr. Putin, an exceptionally fit 55, to rule Russia for another four-year term, and perhaps several terms beyond that.

By happy contrast, Hugo Chávez's effort to establish himself as Venezuela's president-for-life via a constitutional referendum seems to have failed by a narrow margin. Even so, an astonishing 49% of voters were prepared, according to the official count, to permanently forgo the opportunity to choose a president other than Mr. Chávez.

Dark Suspicions about the NIE By Norman Podhoretz

A new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), entitled “Iran: Nuclear Intentions and Capabilities,” has just dealt a serious blow to the argument some of us have been making that Iran is intent on building nuclear weapons and that neither diplomacy nor sanctions can prevent it from succeeding. Thus, this latest NIE “judges with high confidence that in fall 2003 Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program”; it “judges with high confidence that the halt was directed primarily in response to increasing international scrutiny and pressure resulting from exposure of Iran’s previously undeclared nuclear work”; it “assesses with moderate confidence that Tehran had not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007”; it assesses, also with only “moderate confidence that the halt to those activities represents a halt to Iran’s entire nuclear weapons program”; but even if not, it judges “with high confidence that Iran will not be technically capable of producing and reprocessing enough plutonium for a weapon before about 2015.”

Savaging CAIR By Henry Mark Holzer

Regular readers of the New Media Journal know that for several years I have been agitating for someone, preferably a 501(c)(3) organization, to fight CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations) in the only forum where it can’t run and hide, and where there are objective rules that CAIR must play by: in the courts of the United States.

At that time CAIR was in the news because it supported the spurious “civil rights” lawsuit engineered by the “flying imams” against US Airways. In essence, the action contends that the airline violated the imams’ “rights” by bouncing them off a flight because of their seemingly threatening conduct.

The Stunning Reality of Voter Fraud by Wright Talley

In what may be the most important voting case since Bush v. Gore, the U.S. Supreme Court in January will hear a challenge to Indiana’s 2006 law requiring a voter ID to vote. If the court rules against the law, 22 state voter ID laws that were designed to prevent voter fraud could be eliminated.

Democrats and so-called voting rights groups such as ACORN, the ACLU and the League of Women Voters (all of whom are challenging the law) claim there has been little actual voter fraud, few federal prosecutions and convictions, and that the purpose of the Indiana law is to prevent minorities and the poor from voting.

The Platform of the American People: A Red, White and Blue Revolution Beginning January 3 in Iowa by Newt Gingrich

I'm writing to you from Iowa today, and the message I hear in America's heartland is the same one I hear everywhere I go: People are tired of "red-versus-blue" partisanship and bickering.

Across America, people say they are tired of negative campaigns, bitter partisan arguments and gridlock in Washington with nothing substantive getting done.

So that got me thinking. What if there were a platform of specific policy ideas that had the overwhelming support of the American people? And what if both parties adopted this platform in addition to their own platforms at their national conventions this summer? And what if they spent the first three months of 2009 making this platform law?
