The Demcrats' and Obama's Energy Solution: No Drilling, a Windfall Profits Tax and a little Fairy Dust :: The Hedgehog Blog
The Democrats, including their November standard bearer Barack Obama, want to lower energy prices. However, they won't drill in ANWAR, they wouldn't lift the ban on offshore drilling and they wouldn't support nuclear power. As Morton Kondracke pointed out on Hugh Hewitt this afternoon, they have tried to counter the public surge of opinion in favor of offshore drilling by an appeal that the oil companies are "sitting" on 68 million acres of "idle" leases. Mind you, these are leases for which the oil companies have spent billions of dollars on federal bids and annual rentals, and which by their terms terminate if they are not developed within a specific number of years.
