But it is certainly less ironic when one takes into account the subjugation of unbelievers under Islamic law, as enshrined in Qur'an 9:29. The U.S. government and other Western powers have remained in willful denial of the notion that Islamic law in full flower -- whether Sunni or Shi'ite -- could institutionalize oppression and inequality under the law.
