My Wife Became Legal and I Became Illegal By Carey Roberts

Each year the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and similar federal laws funnel $1 billion to help abused and battered women – or so we are led to believe. A good part of that money goes to immigrants who claim to be victims of domestic violence.

Last Fall I wrote a three-part exposé that revealed how an immigrant woman’s restraining order becomes a “gold-plated meal ticket that entitles her to preferential treatment by immigration authorities, free legal services, and a generous helping of welfare services.”

One woman whose father had been falsely accused of abuse and forced from his home wrote me, “I believe the Violence Against Women Act should be called the ‘Women Get What They Want Act.’”

Barack Obama: The Disturbing Truth :: Three Consrevatives

I have no interest in being the voice of bipartisanship on this matter. I keep reading that it does not matter for whom you vote, as long as you get out and vote like a good citizen should, and I cannot possibly roll my eyes any harder than I do each time such an asinine attempt at pandering to one’s opponents is spewed. Cory briefly alluded to the below issue a few days ago, but it deserves a bit more attention.

Joe’s Immigration Reform Fantasy Comes True—Almost! By Joe Guzzardi

In my recurring fantasy, I’m on national television debating patriotic immigration reform with a well-known reconquista like Maria Hinojosa, or possibly the Senate’s most outspoken pro-open borders advocate, Teddy Kennedy.

That day has yet to come. But in the meantime, something almost as good has happened.

Bill McIntosh, a journalist at Univision, the notorious reconquista Spanish-language TV channel, submitted a list of ten questions to me about former Mexican Foreign Minister Jorge Castañeda’s interview with Miami Herald reporter Casey Woods.  Their topic: Castañeda’s new book, Ex-Mex. [A Mexican View of U.S. Immigration Debate, Casey Woods. Miami Herald, February 17, 2008]

McIntosh’s questions and my replies have been submitted to Univision for possible posting in Spanish on its online website.

Her suicide note read: "I told everyone I didn't want to do it, even at the hospital. I was frightened, now it is too late. I died when my babies died. I want to be with my babies: they need me, no-one else does."

The Perils of Socialized Healthcare by Tom Blumer

This is a difficult column to write, because there’s a glut, not a lack, of pertinent material.

You see, the state-run British National Health Service (NHS) has been decaying steadily for years. Even the formerly fawning British media, after decades of kid-glove treatment, has taken to regularly exposing the NHS’s dark side.

Here are just a few of the most recent sordid examples revealing a system at its breaking point.

The first comes from just outside of many British hospitals (known as “trusts”), in the UK Daily Mail:

Obama has become a rallying point for millions of disgruntled voters who yearn for a new style of politics in the world's greatest democracy.

Why Is Federal Authority Preeminent In Hazelton, But Irrelevant In Newark?

By John W. Lillpop

Decent American citizens like those in Hazelton, Pennsylvania are increasingly disenfranchised as they struggle to protect their communities from unwelcome third world aliens who come here illegally in violation of violate U.S. borders and laws.

For the most part, Americans residing in Hazelton are law-abiding citizens who have been raised to believe that America operates within the rule of law. They pass local ordinances and laws in order to protect their schools, families, and property with the expectation that the rule of law, rather than violence, is the American way of adjudicating differences.

The Archbishop's Road to Dhimmitude! by Denis Schulz

Geoffrey Chaucer had a monk, a friar, a nun’s priest, a prioress, a second nun and a canon’s yeoman but he had no archbishop. Why? Were they that unpopular? Did he miss something? The first archbishop of Canterbury was Saint Augustine. One of Gus’ successors was beheaded by an angry mob in 1381. Oh, what tales an archbishop could have told…especially an Archbishop of Canterbury! Perhaps Chaucer found them too boring, too conventional, too God-ridden. Maybe he had a presentiment of the future and didn’t like what he saw. He would not have liked the current Archbishop of Canterbury.

Soft Pedaling Radical Islam: The New York Times Discovers the MSA by Steven Emerson

Neil MacFarquhar's latest paean to radical Islam appeared in Thursday's New York Times, "For Muslim Students, a Debate on Inclusion," in which he praises a known radical leader of the Muslim Students' Association as some kind of moderate. MacFarquhar begins the story with a sweet vignette about Mertaban's alleged moderate bona fides:

Amir Mertaban vividly recalls sitting at his university's recruitment table for the Muslim Students Association a few years ago when an attractive undergraduate flounced up in a decidedly un-Islamic miniskirt, saying "Salamu aleykum," or "Peace be upon you," a standard Arabic greeting, and asked to sign up.

Can Americans Respect a President They Don't Like? by DJ Drummond

BDS: Bush Derangement Syndrome. The increasingly serious diagnosis of people who blame President George W. Bush for all manner of disappointments. The venomous hatred of President Bush goes all the way back to his Inauguration, and has included such notable milestones as a movie celebrating his possible assassination. Before Bush, President Clinton experienced a similarly odious treatment, accused of everything from complicity in rape and murder to deliberate treason against America. For at least half a generation, the President of the United States has been smeared by a substantial portion of the population, regardless of political affiliation or his actual conduct. To some degree, this is almost an American tradition - Abraham Lincoln was denounced in newspaper editorials as a buffoon and as a stupid man who did not understand the office he held. Grover Cleveland was the target of smear campaigns by corrupt politicians whose plans he opposed. Teddy Roosevelt was commonly regarded as incompetent and reckless, as was Andrew Jackson by his enemies (although Jackson's enemies were a bit more anonymous, since Jackson held a formidable reputation as an accomplished duelist). Even so, the modern disparagement of the President seems well out of balance and fueled by a most unhealthy and irrational spite.

Every age fathers its own illusions and in the postwar Europe there were plenty of opportunities. Europe’s threats were contained by America and its material needs glutted by a postwar recovery. It seemed as if the continent could carry on without the ordinary constraints of survival and it could indulge itself in a world where a cut off between means and ends, causes and effects was not only imaginable but also possible. Now the Europeans would not have to face any of the predicaments, make any sacrifices or contemplate any of the awful dilemmas of that previous time. We were to encounter a gentle reality where grave crises existed outside a diminishing European jurisdiction and where the mastery for dealing with these crises became superfluous.

Warning that his ultimate plan might be to seek exile in the United States, the Cairo embassy asked its colleagues to pass along any information they might learn about his activities on Sudanese soil.

What did U.S. officials already know about Abdel Rahman in 1990? As the 9/11 Commission would later determine, they knew that he

had been arrested repeatedly in Egypt between 1985 and 1989 for attempting to take over mosques, inciting violence, attacking police officers, and demonstrating illegally, and that he had been imprisoned and placed under house arrest until he left Egypt for Sudan.

This quoted portion of our law has been used to argue that women who fear female genital mutilation should all be granted asylum. Laws such as this show no appreciation for the existence or impact of international cultural diversity. Think about the prevalence of hope: sports teams heading into a championship game, research scientists envisioning a Nobel Prize, people in the criminal justice system awaiting trial, entrepreneurs starting a new business, people starting off on a long-awaited vacation, American Idol contestants, college seniors dreaming of becoming superrich, and all those supporters of Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, and other presidential candidates that will not reach the White House.

Bashing LGF, St. Louis Paper Shills for Islamic Group By Matthew Sheffield

When it comes to Islam, the approach of too many media outlets seems to be to avoid questioning authority. Whether this attitude stems from fear (as in the case of Lawrence O'Donnell), ignorance, or plain old-fashioned political correctness doesn't really matter because the end result is the same: when extremist Islamic groups like the Council on Islamic Relations say "jump," far too many news organizations say "how high."

It's not asking for much, really. When, for instance, other religious groups (be they Catholic, Mormon, Jewish, etc.) make complaints, the usual procedure is to talk to the person or group being accused and allow them to tell there side of the story. It's basic journalism. It appears, however, that St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Tim Townsend doesn't believe that, at least when the complaint involves CAIR making allegations against the conservative blog Little Green Footballs. The Democrats, on the other hand, are protecting the interests of lawyers, terrorist-enabling lawsuits, and the rights of our enemies to plot our destruction in inviolable secrecy.

These leftist artists often argue that the “integrity of the art” means that critics have “no right” to criticize them. But there is a great amount of hypocrisy in the art world over the issue of "artistic integrity" because these same people exert a good deal of peer pressure against any art that might have a conservative viewpoint. A recent L.A.Times Book section report on the works of Sci-Fi writer Robert Heinlein's work is a perfect example of this attack of a conservative author's work by the American left.

The Church of Global Warming By Mark D. Tooley

The imploding National Council of Churches (NCC) is always flailing about for a new raison d’etre.  This month, it took its Global Warming alarmism to Northern Ireland , where it hopes that fears about a climate catastrophe will “inform the peace and reconciliation process.”  Even First Minister Ian Paisley, the once firebrand Ulsterman who is now an elderly pillar of the Ulster peace settlement, met with the ecclesiastical busybodies.  The NCC’s furtive mission was sponsored by the British Consulate in New York .  Other members of the 2 day junket were the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change, the Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life and the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Sharia in Britain? Taxpayer-subsidized polygamy in T.O.? Yawn. Nothing to see here. By MARK STEYN

Since Maclean's got into a spot of bother with Canada's "human rights" pseudo-courts, I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of our media confreres who don't think it should be a "crime" for magazines to publish excerpts from books by yours truly. Nevertheless, in defending free speech in general, they usually feel obliged to deplore my exercise of it in particular:

"Maclean's published an alarmist screed by Mr. Steyn . . ." (The Economist)

"While the book may be alarmist . . ." (CFRB)

"Steyn's argument is indeed alarmist . . ." (The Guardian)

And, oh dear, even:

"The fear of 'a Muslim tide' was alarmist . . ." (Tarek Fatah and Farzana Hassan in Maclean's)

The Irrational Atheist by Anthony Sacramone

Just when atheists thought it was safe to enter the public square, a book like this comes along. The Irrational Atheist by Vox Day is not a work of Christian apologetics. It is, instead, a merciless deconstruction of atheist thought—or what passes for thought. That’s the gimmick, if you will, of the book: Day does not accept a single assertion made by any one of the “Unholy Trinity”—Dawkins, Harris, and Hitchens—without first pinning it to a sheet of wax as in a seventh-grade science class, dissecting it until there’s nothing left but a case for anti-vivisection legislation.

(A quick Google search, by the way, will reveal that Day bears a striking resemblance to one Theodore Beale: Christian fantasy and sci-fi writer, computer-game designer, and libertarian. Some would go so far as to say they’re the same person. I will continue to use the name that appears on the book, however, and that also is appended to the blog Vox Popoli.)

Kosovo and Islam's Balkanization of the World :: Sultan Knish

Even as the world rushes to embrace the newly manufactured Kosovo as a country, the rise of a splinter Muslim country in Europe can't help but give hope to Islamic terrorists fighting to create breakaway states in Thailand, the Philippines, Israel, India and Kenya among many others.

Balkanization, or divide and conquer, has always been a key element in bringing down countries and with a global Islamic war, each country with a Muslim minority, natively converted or imported, is on the same track as Yugoslavia.

BEYOND PARODY :: Dr. Sanity

Victor Davis Hanson comments on the 'Orwellian Democratic message to the white male':

If you're African-American, then it's OK that you express racial solidarity and vote for Sen. Obama by margins approaching 90 percent — while at the same time white males must prove that they are not racialists by having the courage to 'do the right thing' by likewise voting for an African-American. That apparently would make Michelle Obama proud of her country for the first time in her life.
If you vote for Hillary, likewise you transcend your gender and do the right thing — and so join the legion of feminists for whom her shared womanhood was their signature issue.
But if you were to vote for John McCain? You would, of course, reveal a tribal mentality by forgoing principle and obviously allying yourself along comfortable racial and gender lines.

Meanwhile, for the first time in her entire adult life, Michelle Obama--educated at a high-class Ivy league school and then Harvard for law school--finally has found something to be proud of in America.

Reactions to My Obama Articles By Michael J. Gaynor

"...I am glad to see that someone is zeroing in on Obama. He has obviously been groomed for this run at the presidency. He is so popular BECAUSE he speaks in generalities and wonderful platitudes. Unfortunately, our young people have little instruction in discernment and have embraced Obama. It is difficult to imagine a more dangerous person at the helm of our country, if Obama will promote those who either will allow or install Sharia Law."

I believe that all presidential aspirants should be fully scrutinized, regardless of sex, color, age, wealth, height, weight and whether their fathers were monogamous or polygamous or born inside or outside of Kenya.

The Road To A Brave New World Order By Wayne Lela

Picture an imaginary world where fanatic, radical, and judgmental liberal bigots hold sway; who preach or teach the "religion" of moral relativism, but who hypocritically treat their own values almost as if they were moral absolutes; where:

1) One can lose one's job for merely stating the well-documented scientific fact that the brains of men and women are structurally different and reasonably opining that those differences may help explain why women seem to be better than men at certain tasks and men better than women at other tasks.

The Trinity United Church of Christ and Louis Farrakhan by David J. Jonsson

This is the second of a series of articles on The Clash of Ideologies and Leftist/Marxist – Islamist Alliance.

It is important in considering the following to note that Barack Hussein Obama is a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and according to their website: The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision. When Obama moved to Chicago and became a community organizer, he found it expedient to choose a Christian church to join.

Recall this is a church and a mentor who Obama has relied upon to shape his views, to be his sounding board; the church is the largest recipient of his charity dollars; he proudly states that he admires the church and Jeremiah Wright, Junior. He prayed with Wright before he announced his candidacy for President. He is a beacon for Obama.

Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back By Phil Brennan

Are the world's ice caps melting because of climate change, or are the reports just a lot of scare mongering by the advocates of the global warming theory?

Scare mongering appears to be the case, according to reports from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that reveal that almost all the allegedly “lost” ice has come back. A NOAA report shows that ice levels which had shrunk from 5 million square miles in January 2007 to just 1.5 million square miles in October, are almost back to their original levels.

Moreover, a Feb. 18 report in the London Daily Express showed that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than usual, challenging the global warming crusaders and buttressing arguments of skeptics who deny that the world is undergoing global warming.

A federal judge on Thursday upheld an Arizona law that prohibits businesses from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and yanks the business licenses of those that do.  U.S. District Judge Neil Wake dismissed a lawsuit filed by business groups that argued that federal immigration law severely restricts Arizona's ability to punish people who knowingly employ illegal immigrants.

Under the law, a business would be placed on probation after one violation and would lose its business license permanently following a second violation.

The Declaration notes that the Sudanese and other Africans have been victims of a slow motion genocide, and that Islamofascists in the Middle East are preparing a new genocide against the Jews and can be found here: Terrorism Awareness Petition.

In describing the objectives of this new initiative, David Horowitz, President of the Freedom Center, said: “We are asking all campus groups to repudiate the genocidal passage in the Islamic Hadith which reads: “The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: ‘The time [of judgment] will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews and kill them; until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! Serving the Enemy By Lance Thompson

While Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats claim victory for stalling the Bush Administration's ability to listen in on calls made by suspected terrorists, the enemy benefits. We really need to stop and ask ourselves, whose side are these anti-war Leftist Democrats on?

House Democrats have decided that their greatest duty is to the enemies of this country. They have performed magnificently in this role by refusing to grant immunity to telecommunications companies that provide information to government agencies tasked with preventing terrorist acts. By withholding their votes from the legislation that would have renewed the Protect America Act, House Democrats have discouraged these companies from cooperation by leaving them open to law suits by the very terrorists who plot the murders of innocent Americans.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke for the Democrats when she denied that national security was the issue, and accused the GOP of wanting "to protect the financial interests of telecommunications companies and avoid judicial scrutiny of their warrantless wiretapping program." The Democrats, on the other hand, are protecting the interests of lawyers, terrorist-enabling lawsuits, and the rights of our enemies to plot our destruction in inviolable secrecy.

By refusing to renew our ability to monitor terrorist communications overseas, Speaker Pelosi has put Americans at risk. She has blinded our counterterrorism capability and shut down America's most sophisticated defenses against the irreconcilable wing of Islam. As of midnight last Saturday, the law governing America's defense is totally inadequate to stop terrorists.

Why? Because the Democratic left believes lining the pockets of trial lawyers is more important than stopping terrorists.

Further, the fact that the association almost had a debate between Horowitz and Michael Bérubé — and now plans to have the debate, but subbing in Anne Neal for Horowitz — has prompted a dispute about to whom a scholarly group should provide a platform.

Always apologize, always explain, or, Why Intellectuals like Genocide By Roger Kimball

Australia’s recent decision to apologize to the Aborigines—it was, said The New York Times, “a comprehensive and moving apology for past wrongs”—was front-page news. But why? Kevin Rudd, Australia’s new Prime Minsiter, said his country would act “to remove a great stain from the nation’s soul.” But what, precisely, had Australia done to the Aborigines? Well, everything. Australia is run by white folks now, isn’t it? And then there is the issue of attempting to improve the lot of Aborigines by encouraging assimilation. This was the so-called “Stolen Generations” controversy. The Times says “tens of thousands” of children were removed, “sometimes forcibly,” from their families and resettled. I’d like to second the historian Andrew Bolt’s challenge to produce a list of even ten names of children who were resettled by Australian authorities. It’s not that I doubt some children were removed from their families—e.g., a 13-year-old called Dolly, who was taken into the care of the State after being “found seven months pregnant and penniless, working for nothing on a station.”

In Search of Moderate Muslims By Joshua Muravchik and Charles P. Szrom

Ever since his first post-9/11 speech summoning the nation to a war against terrorism, President Bush has stressed that “our war is against evil, not against Islam.” Indeed, his administration has branded the terrorists as “traitors to their own faith”—outlaws who are “trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself.”

There is no reason to doubt the sincerity of such pronouncements. But they also reflect a strategic imperative—namely, to prevent the jihadists from attracting wide support in the Muslim world. The goal of Bush’s policy is, rather, to call forth the Muslim majority against the acts and ideology of the terrorists. As the Middle East scholar Daniel Pipes has put it: “radical Islam is the problem and moderate Islam the solution.”

This is one facet of U.S. policy on which there has been virtually no dissent. But it begs the question: what exactly is moderate Islam, and where can we find it?

House Democrats probably can't sustain their stand against renewing the program over the long term, so they will have managed a Pyrrhic defeat, losing on the policy and exposing a major political vulnerability for the fall.

President Bush compromised with Senate Democrats on a renewal of the surveillance program that passed by a 2-1 margin. The program monitors the communications of terrorist suspects outside the United States, which the president has the inherent authority to do. The legal and political controversy has arisen because many overseas communications now — in the age of fiber optics — travel through the United States and has gotten entangled with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Westerners must mount a united front against Islamic law By Daniel Pipes

Westerners opposed to the application of the Islamic law (the Shari'a) watch with dismay as it goes from strength to strength in their countries — harems increasingly accepted, a church leader endorsing Islamic law, a judge referring to the Koran, clandestine Muslim courts meting out justice. What can be done to stop the progress of this medieval legal system so deeply at odds with modern life, one that oppresses women and turns non-Muslims into second-class citizens?

A first step is for Westerners to mount a united front against the Shari'a. Facing near-unanimous hostility, Islamists back down. For one example, note the retreat last week by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in a dispute concerning guide dogs used by the blind.

Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father is Barack Hussein Obama Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya, Africa.

His mother is Ann Dunham, a white born Catholic from Wichita, Kansas, who became an Athiest.

Obama’s parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a “radical” Muslim from Indonesia, which is a Muslin country.

The West’s Fatal Mistake: We Are All Serbs Now By Thomas Landen

Today, one day after Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence, the United States and the major European countries rushed to recognize Kosovo’s independence. George Bush hailed Kosovo’s “bold and historic bid for statehood.” Five years ago, Mr Bush invaded Iraq and began “operation Iraqi freedom.” He toppled Saddam Hussein in order to get rid of a rogue regime, one of the members of the “axis of evil.” Five years later, Mr Bush is saddling Europe with a new rogue state.

Surely, Mr Bush knows that al-Qa’eda fighters were involved in driving the Serbs from Kosovo in the late 1990s. The Jerusalem Post reported in 1998 that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was “provided with financial and military support from Islamic countries,” and had been “bolstered by hundreds of Iranian fighters or mujahedin [some of whom] were trained in Osama bin Laden’s terrorist camps in Afghanistan.” There is more proof of involvement of the KLA of the (then and current) Kosovar leader Hashim Thaçi, nicknamed ‘the Snake,’ with al-Qa’eda than there was of the Iraqi Ba’ath regime of the late Saddam Hussein.

Ben Stein Wins Intelligent Design Award for 'Expelled' By Katherine T. Phan

Ben Stein's work in his new controversial movie “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” has earned him praises and now an award from the intelligent design community.

The multi-talented star of his Comedy Central show “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” who is also known for his lead role in the film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” was named the recipient of the 2008 Phillip E. Johnson Award for Liberty and Truth, an award created to honor one of the founding fathers of the intelligent design movement.

Stein will receive the award through Biola University’s masters in science and religion program in a ceremony on March 27, one month before “Expelled” hits theaters.

In his movie, Stein explores the long-standing controversial debate between supporters of Darwinism and proponents of intelligent design. Through interviews with experts and professors from both camps, he discovers an elitist scientific establishment that punishes the scientific proponents of intelligent design because they reject some of the claims of Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Georgetown U's Wahhabi Front By Patrick Poole

In December 2005, Georgetown University announced receipt of a $20 million gift to endow the school’s Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, after whom the Center was renamed. The Center’s director, John Esposito, has been known for his vigorous apologetics for Islamic extremism, authoring several books prior to the endowment’s announcement dismissing the global influence of extremist Islamic ideology. Under Esposito’s oversight, the Center has also developed questionable ties to individuals and organizations directly involved in Islamic terrorism. One example of these ties is the joint conference held by the Center with the United Association for Studies and Research (UASR) in July 2000. By that time, UASR had long been identified as the political command for HAMAS in the United States, and Esposito’s co-chair for the conference was then-UASR executive director Ahmed Yousef, who fled the country in 2005 to avoid prosecution and currently serves as the spokesman for the HAMAS terrorist organization in Gaza.

Economics 101 for Obama & Hillary

By Doug Edelman

As we evaluate the proposals of the Presidential Candidates, one must remember that the Government PRODUCES nothing, EARNS nothing and HAS nothing that it doesn’t  first  APPROPRIATE from the producing public.  Whatever it GIVES to someone, it must TAKE from someone – in THAT sense the government IS a Zero Sum Game!!  The more the government gives to the dependent, the more they must take from the producers.  If you’re a producer – watch your wallet.  If you’re a dependent – GET A JOB!

Rewriting Medieval history :: Fausta's Blog

This morning Siggy forwarded his post, "What if the Muslim armies hadn't been stopped at the French border?". Siggy refers to Joan Acocella's review in the New Yorker of David Levering Lewis's book God's Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570-1215.

Siggy points out,

It is true that the Arabs oversaw a great advances in medicine, mathematics, philosophy and science. There is no question they were to have a tremendous influence in the world as we know it, but that is not the story.
The Golden Age of the Arabs did not occur in Arab lands.
There would have been no Golden Age for Islam had Muslims not been in contact with Jews and Christians. This glaring truth still holds true today.

I must clarify that I have not read the book, but one statement in the book review stands out:

‘Supporting’ the Troops By Thomas Sowell

The Berkeley city council has made national news by telling Marine Corps recruiters that they are unwelcome in that bastion of the academic Left.

It is a shame that Berkeley is not on some island in the South Pacific, because then they could be given their independence and left to defend themselves.

As it is, members of our armed forces who put their lives on the line to defend America are also defending people like too many in Berkeley for whom the very word America, and the American flag, bring only sneers.

Unfortunately, Berkeley is not unique. A professor at Harvard who put an American flag on his car after 9/11 provoked looks of astonishment from his colleagues. They wondered what was wrong with him.

US Border Attacked :: National Summary

A National Guard team of an unspecified size was forced to retreat from their observation post along the U.S. and Mexican border in Arizona between Nogales and Lukeville. No one was injured when a group of gunmen opened fire on the outpost at 11:00 pm.

Now when I heard about this incident I was enraged. How does something like this happen on our own border?

We are the most powerful nation on earth and our National Guard can’t even fend off a group of gunmen with small arms; what an embarrassment.

Kosovo Was Then, This Is Now... By Victor Davis Hanson

Quite apart from the undeniable merits of independence, in political terms Kosovo 2008 is not quite Kosovo of 1998. Let us count the post-9/11 ways:

1. The rise of radical Islam, especially in Europe, has made Western publics edgy about Muslim-identified states, especially inside Europe.

2. Russia is no longer a basket case, but rearming, aggressive, overflowing with petro-dollars, and eager to use oil — and more — as a weapon.

3. Milosevic is long dead.

'Realism' in Syria :: New York Sun Editorial

What in the world are advisers to both Senators Obama and Clinton doing in Syria in the middle of a presidential campaign — and why are the two campaigns so unforthcoming about the details of the visits? The same week that a terrorist mastermind harbored by the Baathist regime in Damascus was assassinated by a car bomb, both one of Mr. Obama's foreign policy counselors, Zbigniew Brzezinski, a long-time critic of Israel, and one of Mrs. Clinton's national finance chairs, Hassan Nemazee, were meeting with President Assad.

Intelligence 'Expelled' from Evolution Debate by Gary Bauer

Ben Stein -- columnist, humorist, actor, game show host, economist, lawyer, law professor and presidential speechwriter -- has worn many hats during his long and varied career.  For his most recent project, Stein adds another:  investigative documentarian.

In the forthcoming film "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," Stein investigates the controversy over intelligent design (ID), the theory that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection.  "Expelled" follows Stein as he travels the globe speaking with accomplished scientists and educators who acknowledge an intelligent design for life and have been criticized, ostracized, denied tenure and even fired -- expelled! -- for those beliefs.  As Stein says, “scientists are not even allowed to think thoughts that involve an intelligent creator.”

Michelle Obama hasn’t been proud of America in at least 26 years? :: HOT AiR

That’s what she said today, if this quote is accurate.

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she told a Milwaukee crowd today, “because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

Only her husband’s run for president has made her proud of America? That’s…extremely narcissistic and self-centered.

Free Speech For Some, But Not For All By Elizabeth Wright

Is freedom of speech a moot issue at this point in American history? Are those who persist in fighting to uphold the principles of the First Amendment fighting an already lost battle? From several recent polls of American citizens, it would seem that most people are more concerned about avoiding social discord than with preserving individual rights as enshrined in the Constitution.

It appears that the average American accepts the notion that if John's resolute opinions make his neighbor George unhappy--or, in today's politically correct jargon, "uncomfortable"--then John should be restrained from expressing those opinions. The once sacred adage that went something like, "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it," today is virtually unknown, and has given way to "Don't make waves."

Obama Finally Releases Details Plans for His Presidency Satire By Jeremy Robb

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Often criticized for being long on rhetoric and short on policy, Barack Hussein Obama finally released a detailed plan outlining his policies if he were elected president.

"No one can say I am shallow and running on a campaign slogan," said Obama.  "I have now outlined specific plans for all of the key areas that a president will need to address as he faces the world."

Obama's detailed plans are as follow:

Healthcare:
I will formulate a policy that brings hope and belief to the uninsured.  We're going to make a change that will allow the poor to believe in hope and have hope for a believable future.  This believable hopeful future will be a change from today and from the past and focus on the future.  And it will happen by only taking money from the very wealthiest in our society who should contribute more.  Those making over $75,000 per year.

However, despite its millions of users and various social benefits, there’s a dark side of Craigslist that most users don’t see. In the “Erotic” section, human traffickers have found Craigslist to be one of the most efficient, effective, and free ways to post children and women for sale.

Obama’s Communist Mentor By Cliff Kincaid

In his biography of Barack Obama, David Mendell writes about Obama's life as a "secret smoker" and how he "went to great lengths to conceal the habit." But what about Obama's secret political life? It turns out that Obama's childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a communist.

In his books, Obama admits attending "socialist conferences" and coming into contact with Marxist literature. But he ridicules the charge of being a "hard-core academic Marxist," which was made by his colorful and outspoken 2004 U.S. Senate opponent, Republican Alan Keyes.
