Never trust a campaign slogan that ends in a preposition. "Change we can believe in," reads Obama's pompous promise on his website. A quote from Obama hovering nearby seeks halfheartedly to flatter voters by suggesting this change will enlist their genius too: "I'm asking you to believe. Not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington...I'm asking you to believe in yours."
A similar song and dance is contained in his bafflingly arrogant mantra: "We are the ones we've been waiting for." That apparently means whoever appears last is best -- the political equivalent to Darwin's theory of evolution.

Greenpeace founder Patrick Moore says there is no proof global warming is caused by humans, but it is likely enough that the world should turn to nuclear power - a concept tied closely to the underground nuclear testing his former environmental group formed to oppose.

A Syrian nuclear reactor built with help from North Korea was weeks away from functioning, a top U.S. official said Thursday after lawmakers were briefed on the site destroyed last year by Israeli jets.

I had to jump on this one. As a teenager, I attended summer camp with actor Jason Beghe, and we were members of a loosely-knit camp clique for a time thereafter. This week the true nature of the 'peace' activists was revealed for all to see. On Thursday, I happened to be in New York when the Daily News published a column about a new title from WND Books called "Why We Left Islam: Former Muslims Speak Out."
By the time I got to the bottom of the column, I was fuming.
The columnists for the Daily News called Ibrahim Hooper, an American convert to Islam and the mouthpiece for CAIR.
Here's what Hooper said, according to the Daily News: "This book is put out by WND Publishing (sic), which promotes hate every day on its extremist anti-Muslim hate site. The editor is a guy who suggested air-dropping pig's blood over Afghanistan. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to deflect a question about his relationship with terrorist Bill Ayers by saying that he “engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8-years-old” and that he was now a professor and a neighbor. The real issue is whether Obama shares Ayers’ communist views. Obama admitted to exchanging ideas with Ayers on an irregular basis but did not say what those ideas were. But we know that Ayers, rather than just being a 1960s “radical,” was a member of a Marxist-Leninist communist group.

Yale senior Aliza Shvarts has gone too far—or maybe she hasn’t. According to a press release that Shvarts sent to the Yale Daily News on Wednesday, April 16, over a recent nine-month period, the senior art major artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible” and then induced miscarriages by means of herbal abortifacient pills. At first blush, her actions bespeak a morbidly unsound mind, but what makes Shvarts’ actions even more outrageous is that she is—by all appearances—a perfectly normal young woman. This was not, it seems, a cry for help. Rather, Shvarts says it was abortion for art’s sake—indeed, it was art. Shvarts claims to have filmed herself bleeding into a cup each month and to have saved the products of that bleeding to display as part of her upcoming senior thesis presentation.

Barack Obama complains that he’s been unfairly attacked for a casual political and social relationship with his neighbor, former Weatherman Bill Ayers. Obama has a point. In the ultraliberal Hyde Park community where the presidential candidate first earned his political spurs, Ayers is widely regarded as a member in good standing of the city’s civic establishment, not an unrepentant domestic terrorist. But Obama and his critics are arguing about the wrong moral question. The more pressing issue is not the damage done by the Weather Underground 40 years ago, but the far greater harm inflicted on the nation’s schoolchildren by the political and educational movement in which Ayers plays a leading role today.

Mexican drug cartels are now advertising for young men to step up and to come and join their ranks to fight the Mexican army. The ads and banners premise those who join will make good money have food and a place to stay even while in training. «Operative group ‘The Zetas’ wants you, soldier or ex-soldier. We offer a good salary, food and benefits for your family. Don’t suffer anymore mistreatment and don’t go hungry.» Photos of the banner were displayed prominently in Mexico’s national media. The Journal has learned that this same type of advertising is planned for Juarez, TJ and other Mexican border cities. Mexican authorities admit cartels are training new recruits in the face of President Felipe Calderon’s nationwide crackdown. Since taking office in 2006, Calderon has sent more than 30,000 troops to areas plagued by drug violence.

Perhaps the greatest secular gift to the world by Judeo-Christian civilization is its seminal concept of the individual, which it raises above the tribe or the collective. In Genesis, we are told that man is made in the image of God. Deuteronomy tells us that "each human by his own sin is to be judged" and "do not punish children for the sins of their fathers." "Mortgage Crisis," shouts the New York Times. The Times has used the term "subprime crisis" at least 11 times. Not in opinion columns -- in news stories.
The columns are worse. Paul Krugman writes: "A lot of the financial system looks like it's going to shrivel up and have to be rebuilt."
The "financial crisis," says Fortune's senior editor, "is threatening to bring down the entire system, with dire consequences."
When the current troubles aren't a "crisis," they're a "disaster". That's what John McCain called them, while Hillary Clinton prefers "crisis," saying, "This market is clearly broken, and, if we don't fix it, it could threaten our entire housing market."

Representative John Murtha is one sorry man, and by sorry, I do not mean apologetic. His efforts to smear the military in the court of public opinion, the Marines in particular, has been elaborate, elongated and disgraceful. What are we to make of the Ontario Human Rights Commission's drive-by shooting of Mark Steyn and Maclean's?
The OHRC ruled it did not have jurisdiction to proceed with a complaint filed by the Canadian Islamic Congress and some law students over an excerpt from Steyn's book that appeared in Maclean's titled "The future belongs to Islam."
That would have been fine if that's all the OHRC did, but out of the other side of their mouth they condemned the article for being racist and Islamophobic. Unfortunately they made these findings without holding a trial or hearing legal arguments or evidence from Maclean's.

Last week, the Supreme Court held, 7 to 2, that Kentucky's method of lethal injection remains a constitutional way of executing the rapist of a child. Justice John Paul Stevens concurred.

We are nearing the 40th anniversary of the famous student uprising in France. In the heart of Paris' student quarter, on Rue Saint Jacques, the city is displaying a collection of excellent photographs of the May 1968 events -- students constructing barricades from burned-out cars, pulling up cubes of pavement with which to do battle against the police, and so forth. The photos are accompanied by short captions which generally express sympathy and affection for the students.
But why were they fighting in the streets? Unlike the U.S., France was not bogged down in a controversial war. Moreover, the government of Charles de Gaulle had brought stability and prosperity to France after three decades of misfortune and worse.

Given that Mormon readers will probably recall my past references to a former candidate for the White House as Capt. Underoos, it's not exactly a secret that I harbor little respect for Joseph Smith's little cult. While all of the Latter Day Saints I've ever met have been fine, upstanding individuals, I nevertheless tend to view "The Book of Mormon" as being, for all intents and purposes, the literary and religious equivalent of L. Ron Hubbard's "Battlefield Earth."
But despite my admitted lack of sympathy for Mormonism, not since the Waco massacre have I been so completely appalled by an American government action. The recent kidnapping of 416 children from their Fundamentalist LDS parents by Texas Child Protective Service agents is a unconscionable abnegation of not only the United States and Texas constitutions, but a rejection of the very meaning of what it is to be an American. For as P.J. O'Rourke rightly declares: "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please."

In Ben Stein's new film "Expelled," there is a great scene where Richard Dawkins is going on about how evolution explains everything. This is part of Dawkins' grand claim, which echoes through several of his books, that evolution by itself has refuted the argument from design. The word as a verb originates from the campaign undertaken in 2004 by the Swift Boat Veterans in response to the John Kerry presidential candidacy. The word means, or should mean, the exposure of a fraudulent autobiography of one seeking political office or public influence. It is the correction of a personal and professional record that has been selectively and dishonestly compiled, as the Swift Vets did so effectively to that of John Kerry.

Recently, Georgia State University professor Ben Scafidi released a study on the economic effects of the destruction of the American family. The study argues that single parent families—particularly those headed by single mothers—draw more on government aid programs than do traditional, two parent households. The resulting drain is more than $112 billion a year. Scafidi, while not making a formal recommendation, observed that legislatures should consider the obvious answer: find ways to strengthen the family. Almost immediately criticism arose from various corners of academia, primarily questioning the “effectiveness” of marriage programs. In short, critics are in favor of pursuing any number of other programs, but are “skeptical” of any program focused on marriage. As one put it, “"We're now nearing 40 percent of kids in America born out of wedlock…I can't fathom that those marriage programs, even with increased investment, are going to reduce that."

Last week the House passed the “Jubilee Act” to cancel debt for poor countries, a move that could cost Americans billions of dollars. House leaders failed to attach promised reforms to the debt cancellation, despite Treasury Undersecretary David McCormick’s request that “any debt relief should be conditioned on the adoption of policies that promote sound economic practices.” Apparently, they don’t mind promoting unaccountable lending and forgiving nations that lack the will and/or the ability to repay their American taxpayer-financed loans.

Coverage of the United Nations speech by Pope Benedict XVI was extremely lacking in critical analysis. None of the stories that Accuracy in Media surveyed in the major newspapers alluded to the fact that while the Pope had just finished apologizing for the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal in several U.S. appearances, his speech to the U.N. ignored the history of rapes of women and children committed by its so-called military “peacekeepers.” This has been a major U.N. scandal for years.

On January 15, 1999, David Howard presumably woke up, had his breakfast and coffee, and headed for work in the administration of Mayor Anthony Williams in Washington, DC. Howard had a meeting that day with two of his staff, Marshall Brown and John Fanning. It is hardly unheard of for cabinet members–or even the President and Vice President–to woo selected journalists deemed to be friendly while cutting off those deemed hostile. Nor is it exactly a scandal for government agencies to hire public relations firms to track coverage of them and try to suggest ways in which they might be cast in a more positive light. All this is part and parcel of the daily grind of Washington journalism in which the Times is, of course, a leading participant.
Darwin...Darwin...Darwin...you can almost hear Ben Stein muttering to himself as this subversive little documentary, "Expelled - No Intelligence Allowed," unfolds. Having opened only yesterday it has already left the piggies that feed at the trough of big science foaming at the mouth and staggering about in near apoplexia.
So outraged are the fascisti intelligentsia by Stein's work that as the film's website makes clear, "...the National Center For Science Education has taken the extraordinary and unprecedented step of building a website devoted solely to discrediting the...film..." an overtly political act.

One wonders what would be the reaction of Muslims if a museum in Riyadh or Islamabad, or in any Muslim country, displays, for example, a Piss Muhammad photograph like the one of Jesus by American photographer Andres Serrano, which depicts a small plastic crucifix submerged in a glass of the artist's urine.
Displaying such as an art-work even in a European, American, Canadian or Australian Museum would be impossible - thanks to the super sensitivity of Muslim feelings. But Andres Serrano's Piss Christ photograph was exhibited in art galleries and museums of most Western countries albeit amid whining complaint from Christians. Complaints against its display were rejected on the ground of artistic freedom and freedom of speech. For example, when the National Gallery of Victoria displayed Piss Christ in 1997, a petition against its displaying by Dr George Pell, the Archbishop of Melbourne, was rejected by the court in support of the artist’s right to express his mind.

Our picture and brief commentary on the sad story of a helpless sea turtle butchered on the beach by Palestinians desperate for sexual potency seems to have reminded some readers of other creatures slaughtered under the sword of Islam for the crime of being different.

Do we really know enough about Barack Obama? Barack Obama's recent comments at a closed door fund raiser in San Fransisco may have done a lot to show us who he really is.
He said that You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothings replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

To show how pathetic The New York Times and John Broder are at analyzing the current political climate, all one has to do is read "Gore-Lieberman: A Hyphen Apart? Try Poles." Here the Times clearly reveals that they see but two types of American politician: the good guys against the war, and the evil ones for it. That's it. To the Times there is no other issue, no other divide, no other substantive thought, no other thing that separates our leaders one from the other. There is only the war and nothing else.

Last year, feminist author and former Democratic political consultant Naomi Wolf published an article in The Guardian called “Fascist America, in 10 easy steps.” The article discussed the typical measures governments use to establish dictatorships, such as creating an exaggerated sense of danger from an enemy, building a gulag, and controlling the press. America, Wolf passionately argued, was in the midst of taking all of these measures in the name of the War on Terror. The enemy the Bush administration had invoked was Islam, our gulag was Guantanamo Bay, and our persecuted journalist was Joseph C. Wilson of “Plamegate” fame, whose wife was supposedly outed after he criticized Bush.
