Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, R.I.P. by Ellis Washington

Now he belongs to the Ages.

– Edwin M. Stanton, secretary of war. Epitaph uttered at Lincoln's death bed, April 15, 1865

Prologue

I, like many lovers of great literature, was deeply saddened by the headline on the New York Times last Monday, "Reverence but no outpouring for Solzhenitsyn." Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn (1918-2008) Russian dramatist, novelist, historian, was a prolific writer and a gargantuan intellect. His magnum opus is his legendary – "The Gulag Archipelago" (3 vols., 1973-78).

Obama And the Land That A Nation Forgot By Rev. Lainie Dowell

Though the stories have surfaced in news arenas for many years about Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), there are more than enough pages to be filled with the overflow.

More and more, many citizens want to know how could such a person as he have come this far in spite of all of the most damaging evidence to support his not being under consideration as the next President of the United States of America.

Americans have been deceived for so long that they have lost sight of what this nation has stood for since its inception centuries ago. It is not enough to continue to say what we must do. It is time to do what we must to reclaim this nation of Godly morals, values and mores.

As the West Sleeps, Islamists Work on Establishing a Worldwide Islamic State By M. Zuhdi Jasser

While we in the West sleep, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, is whispering in Arabic to hundreds of millions of Muslims how to establish Islamic states. In July he wrote two extensive columns (on July 13th and July 22nd) on the subject of the Islamic state in Arabic. Some Islamist apologists who remain ignorant of the threat of the Islamic state argue that the ascendancy of political Islam in the Muslim world is the better of “other evils” that could arise. Many Muslims and non-Muslims alike across the world, however, believe that it is self-evident that the ascendancy of political Islam will remain a significant security threat to the United States and to the West for decades to come as it has been so obviously so for anti-Islamist Muslims and non-Muslims alike in the Middle East.

By his fourth year in power, Hitler had pulled Germany out of the Depression, cut unemployment from 6 million to 1 million, grown the GNP 37 percent and increased auto production from 45,000 vehicles a year to 250,000. In fact, Evans wrote, the current global warming trend actually ended in 2001. He cited ice core data from six previous global warming cycles over the last 500,000 years. The data revealed that temperatures rose 800 years before any significant increases occurred in atmospheric carbon levels. A former recipient of political support, generous funding and professional satisfaction for his advocacy of global-warming intervention, Evans essentially blew the whistle on what he now believes is a fraud perpetrated on the public by many of the world’s governments.

Ibn Warraq’s Defense of the West By Ian Jobling

Previous articles on the Inverted World have argued that some of the distinctive characteristics of Western culture are openness to new and foreign ideas, the capacity for self-criticism, and the drive to discover the objective truth about the world. In his erudite book Defending the West: A Critique of Edward Said’s Orientalism, Ibn Warraq, a Pakistani expatriate now living in Europe, paints in brilliant color the portrait of the West that my articles only tentatively sketched. On top of that, the book delivers a powerful blow to leukophobia, or the fear and loathing of the white race, by demolishing the theory of Orientalism developed by Edward Said, the late Columbia University professor, pro-Palestinian activist, and guru of the destructive class.

Why Obama Lost the 2008 Election by Phillip Ellis Jackson

Yes, I know it’s only August, and only a simpleton or clairvoyant would offer a post-election analysis about how Barack Obama blew the 2008 presidential race.

Needless to say I’m not clairvoyant.  The jury still seems to be out — at least in some people’s minds — about whether I’m a simpleton, though.  But, I won’t use any innate foolishness I possess as the basis for offering a judgment about the outcome of an election that’s still three months away.  Rather, I’m going to do what any good political analyst should do; analyze the present situation and offer a (hopefully) informed assessment well before the trends I detect become so manifestly obvious that everyone will claim they too “knew” the outcome months in advance.

So here’s my top ten list of reasons why John McCain, despite running one of the most turgid and uninspiring campaigns in modern electoral history, will succeed George W. Bush as the 44th President of the United States.

When stated in this manner, most people might say something like “duh, I want to keep what I earn”. The challenge, or the area of concern for me, is the part where people also want a portion of what other people earn. Most people will, if asked, vehemently deny this.

When journalists applaud Obama By John Leo

Did Barack Obama get an ovation after his speech in Chicago at Unity '08, a convention of minority journalists, or was it merely a warm reaction? It matters because "the ovation problem" hovers over the quadrennial Unity conventions. Applause levels are predictably high for Democratic politicians and low for Republicans. At the last Unity convention in 2004, John Kerry received a thunderous reception, while George W. Bush got the traditional Republican small hello, with a slight mixture of booing. At Unity '99, George W. Bush drew sour comments for not planning to attend, so he changed his schedule, made a whirlwind tour of the convention and got sour comments for not staying longer. Al Gore, on the other hand, got a wildly positive reception with the "cheering, hooting and salivating you'd expect at a campus rally," according to Michelle Malkin.

The jihadi intertubes and their allies in the "human-rights movement" were all abuzz about "Prisoner 650" prior to the news that Aaifia Siddiqui was captured in Afghanistan on July 17th. According to various "rumors" a woman has been held by the U.S. at Bagram Air Base, tortured, and raped since 2003. Who started the rumor? None other than al Qaeda itself in a video called "Escape from Bagram" in which several al Qaeda members, including Abu Yahya al-Libi himself, claimed they tried to rescue the poor woman from the evil infidels.

Hundreds of police and paramilitary troops supported by helicopters are now combing the surrounding forests for the guerillas who carried out the attack. It could be a scene from any one of a dozen films set during the Vietnam or Algerian wars.

FINALLY Hollywood makes a film that says President George W Bush was right.

But director Christopher Nolan had to disguise it a little, so journalists wouldn't freak and the film's more fashionable stars wouldn't walk.

So he hides Bush in a cape. He even sticks a mask on him, with pointy ears for some reason.

Sure, when the terrified citizens of Gotham City scream for Bush to come save them, Nolan has them shine a great W in the night sky, but he blurs it so it looks more like a bird.

Political Correctness, A Psychic Straightjacket By Joanne Mandel

Some who grew up in the former Soviet Union say that Westerners “are at least as brainwashed by Multiculturalism and Political Correctness as they ever were with Communism.” So begins Norwegian blogger Fjordman’s, “Political Correctness – The Revenge of Marxism,” a powerful essay about the long-term consequences of our incomplete victory over the Soviet Union in the Cold War. “We let our guard down after the fall of the Berlin Wall and never properly denounced the ideology behind it,” writes Fjordman, one of the West’s most insightful observers. And it’s “now coming back to haunt us.” (The author writes under a pseudonym since his views on Israel and Islam make him a target for terrorists.)

Living with the Bomb By Alan Caruba

On August 6, 1945, in order to end the war with the Empire of Japan, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, thus launching the atomic age. The Japanese warlords did not respond with a notice of surrender, so the U.S. dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered unconditionally.

That’s the way wars used to be fought. By that time, Germany had been so thoroughly destroyed with conventional bombs that its cities laid in ruins. Over a half century ago, wars were not waged with concerns for “collateral damage”, i.e., civilian deaths. It was understood that the civilian population had to be killed to the point where there was simply no capability to proceed.

Darwin's deadly delusions By Ellis Washington

My critique will be of the legendary English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-82) and his famous treatise on the origins of mankind, "The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex" (1871).

As a prologue to this book review, I propose the question: Can an idea, a theory, even a delusion kill? A cursory review just of 20th century dictators who overtly or covertly embraced and applied Darwin's ideas about evolution, survival of the fittest and natural selection to humanity, resulting in tens of millions of corpses they left in their wake, lamentably beckons a resounding, Yes!

The Babylonian Captivity Of The Christian Church by Thomas E. Brewton

Too many Christians have sold their souls to the secular political state.

From the early days of the Roman Catholic Church, when the temporal power of the Western Roman Empire collapsed in the 6th century, there has been continual tension in Christianity between the pull of political power and the essentiality of personal spirituality.

Jesus called us to follow him and reminded us that the two greatest commandments are to love the Lord God alone with all our strength and to love our fellow humans as we love ourselves.  Too often the church has been tempted to ally itself with the prevailing political power to enforce secular laws that it sees as necessary for Christian life.

“Yes, we can” . . . “We are the change we seek” . . . “We are the people we’ve been waiting for” . . . are some of the more familiar Obamaspeak phrases. But what, if anything, do these words mean? Actually, they are borrowed from other persons and movements, including Mohandas Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, and - - really??? - - New Age mystic apocrypha.

“Yes, we can” - - This one isn’t too difficult, actually, for someone who was around during the ’60s and ’70s and knew about Cesar Chavez and the farm workers’ movement. In 1972, during a 25 day fast in Arizona, Chavez and United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta adopted the slogan “Si, se puede!”, meaning “Yes, It can be done!” The slogan is usually translated into English as “Yes, we can!” In 2006, “Yes, we can!” became a rallying cry for protests of U. The Origin of Life Deception By Evolutionists! Babu G. Ranganathan

Millions of high school and college biology textbooks imply that Stanley Miller, in the 1950's, showed that life could arise by chance. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Miller, in his famous experiment in 1953, showed that individual amino acids (the building blocks of life) could come into existence by chance. But, it’s not enough just to have amino acids. The various amino acids that make-up life must link together in a precise sequence, just like the letters in a sentence, to form functioning protein molecules. If they’re not in the right sequence the protein molecules won’t work. It has never been shown that various amino acids can bind together into a sequence by chance to form protein molecules. Even the simplest cell is made up of many millions of various protein molecules.
