After a doctor pronounced the now extracted body dead, the 610-gram baby was placed in the hospital cooler.
Five hours later, the baby’s father came to pick up his dead daughter’s body for burial. But, joyfully, when the baby was withdrawn from the cooler, she was breathing. Naturally, she was taken to the intensive care ward where doctors scrambled to keep her alive.

The Challenge's papers are housed at the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I watched a good portion the Saddleback Civil Forum on Saturday evening. Instead, McCain really fumbled only once and came across as a decisive, determined, focused, relaxed, and informed man of integrity.

The Soviet warning to Egypt about supposed Israeli troop concentrations on the Syrian border in May 1967 has long been considered a blunder that precipitated a war which the USSR neither desired nor expected. As bad as the bloodying of Georgia is, the broader consequences are worse. The United States fiddled while Georgia burned, not even reaching the right rhetorical level in its public statements until three days after the Russian invasion began, and not, at least to date, matching its rhetoric with anything even approximating decisive action. This pattern is the very definition of a paper tiger. Sending Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice to Tbilisi is touching, but hardly reassuring; dispatching humanitarian assistance is nothing more than we would have done if Georgia had been hit by a natural rather than a man-made disaster.

One of the more beneficial side effects of a slowing economy and rising gas prices is a decrease in traffic fatalities.
Last year traffic deaths fell to 41,059, the lowest since 1994, and the fatality rate -- 1.37 deaths per 100 million miles -- was the lowest ever, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
