Therefore, university departments, schools, colleges, etc., feel justified in practicing what amounts to non-discriminatory discrimination. They won’t hire conservatives because, to paraphrase one chair of philosophy, “there are no intelligent conservatives to hire.”

While watching small clips of the Democrats' national convention this week, I was struck by the audience and its reaction to the utter propaganda it was exposed to. Yet, like cult members brainwashed and transfixed by the words of their "leader," audience members robotically accepted the doublespeak, no matter how utopian and outrageous, with repeated and exultant ovations.
A t least two writers in the 19th century foresaw the advent of totalitarianism. The first was Dostoevsky and the second was Nietzsche. Both writers grasped the intellectual trend of their day. As education advanced, as the human spirit was given new opportunities for understanding, the result was intellectual radicalism. In the 18th century Edmund Burke warned his contemporaries that education without religion or aristocratic principles would turn against mankind. Burke wrote: “Learning will be cast into the mire, and trodden down under the hoofs of a swinish multitude.” Burke added, “In the groves of their academy, at the end of every vista, you see nothing but gallows.”

By picking Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has wowed the public and enthused the Right. He has reinforced some of his winning themes — that he has the mindset of an outsider and a fighter against corruption. We keep looking for the much-anticipated recession, but it doesn't seem to have gotten here yet. Could it be that many of those expecting a downturn were wrong, and the economy's not going into the tank?
Going out on a limb to predict what the economy will do is a tricky business. It's possible, though by no means likely, that the economy briefly lapsed into recession late last year or early this year, based on weak GDP data, falling home sales, rising oil prices and a jump in unemployment. We won't know for sure until months — maybe years — after it ends.

Turns out there were more than enough of them to do the job. When the dust settled, and the gang had left, to seek other prey, I was unable to even stand and had to crawl away. But... I learned. I learned how to street fight. But mostly, I learned you are never as open to danger as you are when you flee. Always face your enemy.

Less than 24 hours after Barack Obama announced Joe Biden as his running mate, Biden began attacking McCain for the numerous homes that he, er, his wife owns.

While John McCain might have a tough time deciding what house to occupy, Biden doesn't have that problem. However, it appears that Biden got a sweet deal on the home from a local supporter.

The United States has gone too far. In the world that is present today it is evident that the United States has exceeded its Constitutional Boundaries. The Constitution as first written was written with three principal ideals that were written into a brilliant document that we hold dear as Americans named the Constitution of the United States of America. The three principals that are guaranteed are those of the right to life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. With these three things we as people can retain and build upon the foundation of the U.S. Constitution to a bigger and greater America.
Most protest movements begin as an organized expression of a legitimate grievance -- some perceived societal injustice, perhaps in response to actual governmental or judicial tyranny. If the timing is right and the issues resonate, successful protest movements can flourish and quickly grow into full-fledged revolutions, and revolutions can often degenerate into bloody civil wars.
It’s a shame, because I was looking forward to all the positive effects of an Obama victory, but barring a major gaffe by John McCain, Barack Obama will lose in November. When McCain was trailing big and Obama was sailing along, I never felt Obama should be favored. He simply is too flawed of a candidate. Now that things have tightened in the polls and we are seeing what happens when people start to take a closer look at Obama, I believe the race is over. I have not gotten a presidential election outcome wrong in my lifetime, and do not expect to start now. The following 10 reasons make me quite pleased to have my money on McCain. (I can’t believe he’s still the underdog.)

The UK's Guardian today published details of a report produced by Britain's Security Service (MI5) entitled, 'Understanding radicalization and violent extremism in the UK'. The report is from MI5's internal behavioral analysis unit and contains within it some interesting and surprising conclusions. The Guardian report covers many of these in depth (so no need to go over here) but one point, which is worth highlighting is the claim made within the report that religion is and was not a contributory factor in the radicalization of the home-grown terrorist threat that the UK faces. In fact, the report goes on to state that a strong religious faith protects individuals from the effects of extremism.
The Battleground Poll, the most respected and thorough of all public opinion polls, released its latest results on August 20th. Although many people read this poll for the data on voter preference in upcoming elections, for voter opinions about the two major political parties, for what things matter most to voters, I always zip past this data in the first fifteen pages of poll results and go straight to Question D3, which very quietly and totally ignored proclaims the biggest missing story in American politics and which is the only story, in the long run, that really matters.

I do not believe that there is such a thing as a moderate Islam, and have been quite clear about that since I started writing. I disagree with observers such as Dr. Daniel Pipes on this particular point. I'd like to say to Pipes that I enjoy much of his work. I have linked to it a number of times before and intend to do so in the future as well. However, I get increasingly disturbed by how many people keep repeating the mantra of reaching out to "moderate Islam" when I have yet to see a single piece of evidence that a moderate Islam actually exists.
Among the father figures in Barack Obama's father-deprived life have been his absent, alcoholic, bigamist black African father, whom he only met once for a couple of weeks at age ten; Frank Marshall Davis, the black Communist who was Barack's friend and mentor during his high school years and whom he wrote at length about in Dreams from my Father; and, of course, Jeremiah Wright, the white- and America-hating preacher whom Obama followed devotedly for 20 years. Did Sen. Barack Obama's campaign attempt to hide a paid working relationship with a radical leftist organization that has admitted to major financial improprieties and has been convicted in numerous major voter fraud scandals?
That question is being openly asked by the Republican National Committee after it was disclosed Obama's campaign paid more than $800,000 in services to Citizen Services Inc. (CSI), a nonprofit organization that is an offshoot of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.
Having just returned from Beijing, where I was the guest with a corporate association, it is a bit disconcerting to watch NBC’s glossy coverage of the Olympic games, and China in general, and to endure the echo NBC’s coverage is receiving through other media outlets. The network dared not venture off the reservation, and its coverage offered no observation on the obfuscation outside the Olympic village.

Today I had the dubious privilege of attending a protest here in Denver. A June 7, 2008, news release posted on middle-east-online.com was heralded with a Goebbelsian headline: Muslim scholars back Saudi call for interfaith dialogue. This very warm and fuzzy sounding concoction is meant to convey the idea that the Islamic scholars and the Saudis wish to encourage mutually beneficial dialogue. Simply put, there is nothing that could be further from the truth.

Rather then act presidential and politely tell the dissenter that grown people can agree to disagree, Obama resorts to condescension, mocking, and profanity. Rather than Obama provide an answer with substance in defense of his policies, Obama answers with threats and more profanity. Is this really leadership?
