I say let’s review the 1st Amendment. As a national institution and the most important medium in human life, the media has an obligation to report, not promote. To inform not indoctrinate. Yesterday, as our nation was reminded of the vicious terrorist acts resulting in the tragic destruction of many innocent human lives seven short years ago, I had to reflect on the import of this particular day in the life of our nation. For here we were, seven years later, still remembering those who died at the hands of vile human beings, praying for their surviving family members and carrying on with America's "war on terror."
As I listened to some of the remembrances, it occurred to me that most people in our nation really do not comprehend the full meaning of “terrorism,” nor do they examine it in a broader context. That is why I decided to write this commentary. I hope that it will contribute to a deeper understanding of what it means to honestly wage a war on terror.

The MsM was all "a-twitter" a few days ago about some poll, or other, in Europe, which demonstrated that Europeans wanted Obama to be the next President of the US. As many of you know, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) turned on yesterday in Geneva. So maybe I should say a little about it, since this is the kind of physics I do for a living. The LHC is a very big deal for physics. It is likely to make the first major breakthrough in particle physics in over thirty years.
Since the LHC hasn’t discovered anything yet, how can we know it will? Well, we can’t know, of course. But there are strong reasons to expect it will see something important.
Some people say that the LHC will discover something called the Higgs particle. It almost surely will, but if that is all it discovers, it will be a huge disappointment and in fact a disaster for physics. It is (almost) certain that the Higgs particle is there. That in itself is no big deal. The big deal has to do with a deep puzzle connected to the Higgs, which I will now attempt to explain in a non-technical way.

McCain praised the Peacecorps and AmeriCorps, saying they and similar organizations don't receive "sufficient recognition" from Washington. But McCain was careful to say government should limit its involvement in largely private volunteer organizations- CNN.

This is simply a gauntlet she must run, and with characteristic courage, she is running it.

During an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News which aired Sunday September 7, 2009, Barack Obama bemoaned what he claimed were insidious Republican attempts to "promulgate," falsely, his "Muslim connections." Senator Obama then made a minor gaffe (at ~ 2 minutes 50 seconds, here), in his half-hearted exculpation of Senator McCain: "John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith." Stephanopoulos, who earlier defended McCain against Obama's general anti-Republican allegations, then corrected Obama's misstatement with instantaneous, politically-correct alacrity, reminding the Democratic Presidential nominee, "...[you meant] your Christian faith." And certainly the full context of the discussion makes clear Obama was not in any way acknowledging some personal embrace of Islam, when he responded, "What I meant to say, he [McCain] hasn't suggested that I am Muslim."

That was the headline from the pathetic pawns over at ABC. This teaser line takes what Sarah Palin says totally out of context and the left wing blogs are saying this is a hard line stance on foreign policy. But here is the reality of what the interview question and answer was:

There are strange happenings in the world of international jurisprudence that do not bode well for the future of free speech. In an unprecedented case, a Jordanian court is prosecuting 12 Europeans in an extraterritorial attempt to silence the debate on radical Islam.
The prosecutor general in Amman charged the 12 with blasphemy, demeaning Islam and Muslim feelings, and slandering and insulting the prophet Muhammad in violation of the Jordanian Penal Code. The charges are especially unusual because the alleged violations were not committed on Jordanian soil.

John McCain’s selection for Vice-President, Sarah Palin, has electrified the conservative base, and has succeeded in attracting some voters back to the Republican ticket, who were resigned to sit out the election, or vote for a minor party candidate.
One would expect the typical knee-jerk criticism about a surprise choice such as Palin, both from the Democrats and the main-stream media. We know now that the Palin phenomenon is for real. We can tell because our lefty friends have come up with a new pejorative: "Caribou Barbie." It joins "neoconservative," invented in the 1960s to describe New York Jewish intellectuals who had been mugged by reality, and "neo-con," invented in the 2000s to account for the sons of the neoconservatives of the 1960s, men who believed in reality even before they were mugged. And who can forget Dorothy Parker on Calvin Coolidge: "weaned on a pickle," or Clark Clifford's "amiable dunce" who won the Cold War.

In the middle of the firestorm created by the liberal media over the nomination of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the first woman vice-presidential nominee in the Republican Party, a familiar voice is heard. Comes word in the last few days that Sally Quinn, doyenne of the Washington Post and the Georgetown social set as well as the wife of legendary former Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee, has taken out after Governor Palin. The moose-hunting, snowmobiling Palin is not a regular on the same social circuit as Ms. Quinn.
Last week in one fell swoop, John McCain completely changed the dynamic of this presidential election — this campaign is no longer a referendum on Barack Obama. If events of the past few days are any indication, this paradigm shift has caused a staggering existential crisis for Obama and his supporters.
To many members of the mainstream media, the choice in the upcoming election is black or white — literally. The merits of Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama are immaterial in juxtaposition with the color of their respective skins. The mental meanderings of Jacob Weisberg, editor of Slate.com, led him to interpret a future decision on the part of voters as being contingent on whether or not they harbor racist inclinations.
