The Media and Journalism in this country is officially bankrupt :: The Partisan Report

I say let’s review the 1st Amendment. As a national institution and the most important medium in human life, the media has an obligation to report, not promote. To inform not indoctrinate. Republicans should avoid the media at all cost and stick to engaging the American public directly. The year’s coverage is a complete sham and disgrace to journalism.

Proper Respect, Please: It Is Governor Palin! By John W. Lillpop

Ever since that dreadful morning in January, 2007, when Nancy Pelosi raised her right hand and swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, feminists have insisted that she be addressed by her Constitutional title, despite the fact that that woman is uniquely unqualified to be third in the line of succession to the U.S. presidency.

In February, the Iranian government showed a fictionalized video on the dangers of foreign plots against the state. One of its stars: a mysterious American named Gene Sharp.

In June 2007, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez publicly accused Mr. Sharp of stirring unrest in Venezuela. Last year in Vietnam, authorities arrested several opposition activists who were distributing a book written by Mr. Sharp. In 2005, fires destroyed two Moscow bookstores selling Russian translations of the same book.

The target of all this intrigue and animosity is 80 years old and slightly stooped. He walks with a cane.

Tribe's tribalisms By Ellis Washington

The invisible Constitution undergirds and pervades what most people understand the Constitution to be. When you look at the visible Constitution at the National Archives and draw the logical and linguistic inferences it supports, it doesn't tell you very much about what matters in constitutional law.

~ Laurence Tribe, Harvard's Carl M. Loeb professor of Constitutional Law

Words mean things.

~ Rush Limbaugh, conservative intellectual

Harvard professor of constitutional law Lawrence Tribe has just released his latest book, "The Invisible Constitution" (Oxford Press, 2008). In this interesting but bizarre work, professor Tribe proposes the thesis that lines between the actual black-letter text, what Tribe calls "the invisible constitution," is the actual Constitution.

REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11; IT HAPPENS TODAY AND EVERY DAY! By Judie Brown

9-11-nyc-lights Yesterday, as our nation was reminded of the vicious terrorist acts resulting in the tragic destruction of many innocent human lives seven short years ago, I had to reflect on the import of this particular day in the life of our nation. For here we were, seven years later, still remembering those who died at the hands of vile human beings, praying for their surviving family members and carrying on with America's "war on terror."

As I listened to some of the remembrances, it occurred to me that most people in our nation really do not comprehend the full meaning of “terrorism,” nor do they examine it in a broader context. That is why I decided to write this commentary. I hope that it will contribute to a deeper understanding of what it means to honestly wage a war on terror.

SARAH PALIN ELITE'S NEMESIS By Paul Vincent Zecchino

Of what are they so afraid? In 1980, Ed Koch took Manhattan, Manhattanites guns, and added insult to injury saying, "You're not a nice guy if you have a gun. Even if you are a nice guy." How very glib of him. Vapid, too. Ask Ed today. He'll tell you. Governor Palin 'frightens him'. A Tampa, Florida 'psychotherapist' today stated in our local pinksheet that Alaska's Governor 'terrifies her'. Et tu, Ben Stein? Yeah, Ben Stein. Sara Palin 'scares me', whines Ben. From that silly point, the elite media's discussion of Governor Palin devolves rapidly from feigned fear to spitting nervous collapse. Isn't that a beautiful sight to behold?

If you take nothing else from this, remember this quote: Bitter Pennsylvanians "cling to their guns and religion." — Barack Obama

They are not so naive to overlook that Christians from all denominations are offended by such things as CNN's hit piece about Gov. Palin's faith.

On the Edge of Discovery By Stephen Barr

Construction of the CMS detector for LHC at CERN

As many of you know, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) turned on yesterday in Geneva. So maybe I should say a little about it, since this is the kind of physics I do for a living. The LHC is a very big deal for physics. It is likely to make the first major breakthrough in particle physics in over thirty years.

Since the LHC hasn’t discovered anything yet, how can we know it will? Well, we can’t know, of course. But there are strong reasons to expect it will see something important.

Some people say that the LHC will discover something called the Higgs particle. It almost surely will, but if that is all it discovers, it will be a huge disappointment and in fact a disaster for physics. It is (almost) certain that the Higgs particle is there. That in itself is no big deal. The big deal has to do with a deep puzzle connected to the Higgs, which I will now attempt to explain in a non-technical way.

During an interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News which aired Sunday September 7, 2009, Barack Obama bemoaned what he claimed were insidious Republican attempts to "promulgate," falsely, his "Muslim connections." Senator Obama then made a minor gaffe (at ~ 2 minutes 50 seconds, here), in his half-hearted exculpation of Senator McCain: "John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith." Stephanopoulos, who earlier defended McCain against Obama's general anti-Republican allegations, then corrected Obama's misstatement with instantaneous, politically-correct alacrity, reminding the Democratic Presidential nominee,  "...[you meant] your Christian faith." And certainly the full context of the discussion makes clear Obama was not in any way acknowledging some personal embrace of Islam, when he responded, "What I meant to say, he [McCain] hasn't suggested that I am Muslim."

We know now that the Palin phenomenon is for real.  We can tell because our lefty friends have come up with a new pejorative: "Caribou Barbie."  It joins "neoconservative," invented in the 1960s to describe New York Jewish intellectuals who had been mugged by reality, and "neo-con," invented in the 2000s to account for the sons of the neoconservatives of the 1960s, men who believed in reality even before they were mugged. And who can forget Dorothy Parker on Calvin Coolidge: "weaned on a pickle," or Clark Clifford's "amiable dunce" who won the Cold War.

Media's Treatment of Palin and Obama By James Edmund Pennington

If Barack Obama's past had been subjected to one tenth the media scrutiny during the full year of his candidacy, to which Sarah Palin has been subjected during the last 11 days, Obama very probably still would be junior senator from Illinois, and Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee.

Who Is Sally Quinn? By Jeffrey Lord

It is, you know, rich.
In the middle of the firestorm created by the liberal media over the nomination of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the first woman vice-presidential nominee in the Republican Party, a familiar voice is heard. Comes word in the last few days that Sally Quinn, doyenne of the Washington Post and the Georgetown social set as well as the wife of legendary former Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee, has taken out after Governor Palin. The moose-hunting, snowmobiling Palin is not a regular on the same social circuit as Ms. Quinn.

Rejecting Obama — For the Right Reasons by Bernard Chapin

nobama To many members of the mainstream media, the choice in the upcoming election is black or white — literally. The merits of Senator John McCain or Senator Barack Obama are immaterial in juxtaposition with the color of their respective skins. The mental meanderings of Jacob Weisberg, editor of Slate.com, led him to interpret a future decision on the part of voters as being contingent on whether or not they harbor racist inclinations. Indeed, the specific message of Weisberg’s article, “If Obama Loses: Racism Is the Only Reason McCain Might Beat Him,” is anything but subtle:

Fannie Mae's Patron Saint :: WSJ

Taxpayers are now on the hook for as much as $200 billion to rescue Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and if you want to know why, look no further than the rapid response to this bailout from House baron Barney Frank. Asked about Treasury's modest bailout condition that the companies reduce the size of their high-risk mortgage-backed securities (MBS) portfolios starting in 2010, Mr. Frank was quoted on Monday as saying, "Good luck on that," and that it would never happen.

Sarah Scares Them Because They Don't Scare Her By A.W.R. Hawkins

Liberals fear what they can't control, and subsequently seek the elimination of what they fear. This explains their past efforts to blacklist patriotism, stifle free markets, disarm the American citizenry, and shackle free speech. It also explains why they're currently pulling out all stops in their effort to destroy Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

In Europe, free speech may end with neither a bang nor a whimper – but with a lawyerly assist.

It was three years ago this month that the Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, published twelve editorial cartoons satirizing Islamist terrorism. Some Muslim organizations objected. Protests were organized. Danish embassies in Syria, Lebanon and Iran were set ablaze. Dozens of people were killed. The cartoonists and their editors received death threats from such characters as Mahmoud al-Zahar, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza.

Christian Bible, rosary, and crucifix.

Today, a noticeable feature of the Western press (aside from the "anti-Israel" coverage of so many of the reporters in Western Europe who have found a socially acceptable outlet for antisemitism) is the indifference to, or even hostility to, Christianity. This includes the failure to recognize its significance in the history of Europe and of the West, and a hostile treatment of the activity of contemporary Christian figures. Look at how the Western press covered Pope Benedict's 2006 Regensburg speech, and misreported consistently on it.

World's Gutter Governments To Sit In Judgment Over U.S. Human Rights Record By Dr. Frederick Meekins

No one is perfect.  As such, at times correction and admonition may need to be promulgated to set the ethically concerned back on the right path.

When issued by those adhering to the high standards to which they profess, such criticism can be looked upon as a helpful corrective to assist equals in living up to their potential.  However, when such accusations are leveled or sustained by those with no intentions of living up to the standard themselves, the maligned should turn the tables against such dubious defamers and expose just who it is that undermines dignity, order, and liberty.

How Affirmative Action Erodes Standards By Ian Jobling

A pervasive theme on the Inverted World has been the decline in standards caused by affirmative action. The Affirmative Action Hoax argued that the admission of unqualified minorities to universities has eroded academic standards. An action alert on this year’s housing bill revealed that affirmative action lending had contributed to the mortgage crisis by lowering banks’ standards for loans. However, perhaps the clearest example of this trend is the gutting of civil service exams used in the hiring and promotion of government employees, like policemen, firemen, and bureaucrats.
