The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. John McCain introduced fellow POW’s from a Viet Nan prison. Obama has only presented fellow politicians that support his positions. Where are the friends from Obama’s past?

For the most part, extreme environmentalists are Godless. They often claim to be atheists or at least agnostics on the subject of religion. Many even ridicule religion, especially Christianity, calling it “superstition,” “backwards,” or “archaic.” They often blame for what they claim is the destruction of the world’s ecology on people who are religious and then use that as a basis to call hypocrisy on those same religious people. In a surprising admission, Barack Obama’s 40-page so-called “rebuttal” to Jerome Corsi’s book, The Obama Nation, acknowledges for the first time that the senator once had a personal relationship with identified Communist Party USA (CPUSA) member Frank Marshall Davis, a key high-level operative in a Soviet-sponsored network in Hawaii.
But the 40-page report, advertised and sold to the media as a refutation of Corsi’s “lies,” doesn’t identify Davis as a hard-core communist and it dishonestly edits an article about Davis to eliminate references to his admitted involvement in CPUSA activities and make the black revolutionary writer and “poet” look like a civil rights activist.

For the most part ABC News anchor Charles Gibson's interview with Governor Sarah Palin was fair. As expected, Gibson included a "gotcha" question. He asked her what she thought of the "Bush Doctrine." Clearly she did not have a ready answer. Later he told her that the Bush Doctrine was the presumption that if we know a country is preparing to attack, the USA has the right to a preemptive strike. She gave a general reply that the United States has a right to its own defense and must do whatever intelligence suggests.
The next day liberals and even some conservatives pronounced that Palin's answer was proof that she was not ready to be President. Because of McCain's age this has become a live issue and may be taking a bit of the bloom off the rose.

NPR is reporting that the Bush administration has approved a three-phase plan to capture top Al Qaeda leaders and has increased military strikes inside Pakistan to achieve this target. A brief survey of polls on torture since 2004 reveals that the attitudes of Southern evangelicals are not dramatically different from those of Americans at large.
Thirty years of Republican tax policy have now completely eliminated federal income taxes on the poor and lower middle-income Americans, and almost eliminated them on middle America.
The latest data from the Congressional Budget Office and the Internal Revenue Service show that the lowest 40 percent of income earners as a group actually receive net payments from the federal income tax system. (They get 3.8 percent of total federal income tax revenues instead of paying any income taxes.) The middle 20 percent of income earners pay 4.4 percent of federal income taxes. Thus the bottom 60 percent of income earners together, on net, pay less than 1 percent of all federal income taxes. (These workers earn 26 percent of national income.)

One new spot slams Sen. Obama for riling up a crowd with his "lipstick on a pig" jibe on Tuesday, just days after GOP running mate Gov. Sarah Palin brought the house down at the Republican convention in St. Paul with her line about lipstick being the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull.
Another ad hits the former community organizer for voting when a state senator for sex education for kindergarteners. A third commercial compares dozens of Democratic Party operatives sent to Alaska looking for dirt on Gov. Palin to ferocious wolves on the hunt in the Alaskan wilderness.

I have been reading the Powerline Blog off and on for more than three years. The three attorneys who contribute to the site are conservatives who write mostly insightful, concise articles that generally take on the Old School media bias.
Lately though, they seem to have gone slightly off key. It appears to stem from the fact that their fellow Minnesotan, Governor Tim Pawlenty, was by-passed as John McCain's VP running mate.
