Socialism Alert: Nearly Half Of All Americans Reliant On Government For Income

"I truly worry how our country can continue to prosper and excel when most of the people in it are dependent on the government for their livelihood. And who are the lucky people that get to subsidize all of this? Yup, that’s right - the ever dwindling number of “producers”, who pay nearly all of the taxes.
I mean, it’s already bad enough that in 2004, the top 10% of wage earners paid 70% of the income taxes. And as Ari Fleisher pointed out in today’s WSJ (paid subscription required) those in the bottom half of wage earners not only don’t pay federal income taxes, they also get reimbursed (through the Earned Income Tax Credit) for the payroll taxes that come out of their check. So it’s hard to make the argument that those people “paid into” the Social Security and Medicare system that they will be accessing later in life.
To boil it all down - there are many in our society who pay nothing for the benefits they currently receive, or will be receiving. I’m not saying that to slam them or say their bad people but facts are facts."
