"As Republican candidates vie for the top spot in the upcoming primary, they are stumbling over each other to claim the mantle as Reagan’s rightful heir. It is a tribute to the success of a figure once considered on the political fringe. Prior to his election, Henry Kissinger labeled Reagan “the most dangerous man in America;” now a major political party considers itself nothing less than “the party of Reagan.” Even more, the centrality of Reagan bespeaks the success of his ideas, the ascendancy of conservatism on the American political stage."
